Couldn't you pick up Just Cause at Gamestop for $29.99 this past weekend?

$30 is still too much for FF13. I'm waiting until that bad boy hits rock bottom.

@onan I think $30 is a great price for it, I got about 40 hours of enjoyment out of the game despite the stupid reviewers calling the whole game a tutorial

The idea that FF14's first ten+ hours are a tutorial is this crazy thought virus that spread from one dumb reviewer to another, just because the game doesn't introduce all of the mechanics immediately up front. You know what would have happened if they'd introduced all the mechanics within 5 minutes? The reviewers would have called the game impossibly complicated and difficult, and would have knocked on it for that

I swear, reviewers are so stupid and worthless. They just sit around all day complaining about things others have made, because they aren't skillful enough to make anything of their own.

@onan : Definitely worth the $30. It's a lot of fun, despite the linearity. Temper your expectations (i.e. don't expect something like Oblivion), and the game is great.

NO! You're stupid!

They're opinions. You don't have to agree but you should at least respect others opinions especially if you want people to care about yours...

Oh brother, anyways, the game was a terrible Final Fantasy. Just like XII was a terrible Final Fantasy. At least XII had a tactics universe thing going on but still.

Of course, in their own right they're decent RPGs. Incredible, even. But as a Final Fantasy game and especially compared to IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X they fall flat.

Most people expect a Final Fantasy vibe from the games and the recent versions are trying too much while straying from what made the series great. Not for the better, either.

And for those who say they want Final Fantasy to be different and whatnot, that's what OTHER RPGs are freaking for. I don't subscribe to that concept of a series changing drastically because it can. If you want different style RPGs buy what the same studio makes. There's no sense dragging a perfectly good IP in the mud for the sake of change. If they could put half the budget they put in a Final Fantasy game into a new RPG IP and totally break the barriers, it'll probably work better without isolating a rabid fan base. Plus, we'd get out of this stupid remake/sequel cycle we're in because game studios would be reassured that being creative and making new IPs can be a lucrative business. My god, things might even get fresh again.

Anyhow, I digress.

Meh, I loved XII. But thats just because of how must customization was allowed and just how incredibly large the game was. I still have no idea what the story is about after playing though it like 4 times. But that fact that I played through it 4 times must mean that it was a good game for me.
Absolutely hated XIII. Worst in the series (if not counting X-2) in my opinion. I ended up not fighting anything and running from cutscene to cutscene. Not to mention the same song playing remixed in 100 different ways the entire game. Got to the non linear part thinking "thank god." And then turning it off never to be played again after about 2 hours of that nonsense.

@Mmmmz / Killa

You guys have a point, in that FF13 isn't really much of a traditional JRPG, like FF4-9.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, whether Square should keep putting out standard JRPGs as Final Fantasy games or innovate like they're doing.

Hmm, I'm not sure what would have happened if they'd made a game in the style of FF6/7/9/Blue Dragon.. I thought people would be bored and angry, but maybe they would have gushed praise and made a footnote of "This is the best game I've ever played, but it isn't all that innovative" the way they're doing for Starcraft 2

I'm near the end of FFXIII and still haven't finished it. I bought it on release day. That's how good it is.

I wanted to like it, and I did, occasionally. I said the linearity didn't bother me. But in the end, it did. I was shoehorned into SUCH a linear experience, I thought I had more choices in Mega Man 9 or 10.

I don't judge games based on feature bullets (or a lack thereof), but rather, I just play them and see if I enjoy them. I honestly would rather keep Bionic Commando (3D) than FFXIII.

It's not a bad game, I just DON'T CARE. After the thousandth time hearing "SARA!!," I just couldn't take it seriously. And I don't care what happens to the characters. X had a much better story, and 12 had a much better battle engine. I know there are a lot of people that like XIII's battle engine, but I really think XII's makes the game feel so much less repetetive, and that's a huge part of an RPG's enjoyment factor for me.

Also, Just Cause 2 is on sale on Steam for only $25, and all it's DLC is only 50 cents apiece.

Not only that, but the same people who made San Andreas's Multiplayer Mod is making a Just Cause 2 Multiplayer, and it will only work with the steam edition. Picked up 2 copies for friends, it was a great deal.

Just Cause 2 is very much worth the price. Especially on PC if you have even a half decent card. It's so much better looking and an Xbox (wired or with wireless receiver) controller blends seamlessly into if you still want that kind of control.

@Doctor Doom

The PS3 version all fits onto one Blu-ray as opposed to the (I think) 3 discs that the Xbox version requires. Just a slight advantage, but worth it IMO if you own both consoles and have the choice.

What many people didn't like about FFXIII, in the aspect of its linearity, I thought it was quite poetic how the inability to diverge from the "corridor" feeling was asymmetrical with the storyline. These characters felt that they had no choice and UNTIL those moments in the story when they decide to take their own destiny in their hands the world was closed. Once the story's characters opened their own eyes, the player is also opened. At least that's how I found it to be. Although I liked it, it wasn't my favorite. I'd have to agree with a previous comment that FFXII was the best. Lots of customization and the battle system was fantastic.

I have made this point many MANY times myself, how reviewers completly missed this point i don't know (well is suspect i do know in a few cases). The game opens up and closes up when its relevent to the story, which IMO is how it should be in a game like this.

Never get reviews/general internet population anyway. I'm playing red dead redemption, been playing for a couple of hours and only just got the lasso, it seems to me that hte game is putting me through a mission based tutorial and it takes a couple of hours to get going till i have everything i need, yet no outrage!

not a bad deal, for FF XIII

i dont understand the whole hate, the game and system its great it fused the best thing of a turn based and gambit from FF XII into a very good battle system.

The fact about lineality its all blame to xbox360 version which in the end its the downgraded experience we all got. Squareenix was dumb to accept microsoft offer lets hope they dont commit the same mistake with versus XIII
