such a great game.
single player is infinite times better than in sc1
MP is more or less as good, with a few options taken out that balance out the improvements

this game is definitely living up to the hype. it is an awesome sequel! the campaign is phenomenal and multiplayer will be so intense with new twists blizzard added in.

To be competitive at all, you need a guide that shows you some strategies and tactics. A lot of people have an edge cuz of this. I got it and its helped me out a ton in competitive play. check it out:

I'm not really into the whole RTS genre, but I enjoyed Halo Wars. If I were to buy this game, do you think it would completely blow my mind?

I played a lot of Halo Wars and it had a bit of a SC1 feel at times. Halo Wars was a good RTS for consoles. Play an RTS that's built for PC -- buy SC2!

@Joseph9307 Seriously? You dare even think of asking if Halo Wars is as good as StarCraft 2? SC2 is WAY out of Halo Wars league:)

Seriously though if you like RTS's you'll love SC2, heck my little Macbook can barely run it but damn the game is so good I just don't notice.

@Joseph9307 - SC2 is as polished an RTS as we're likely to see this decade. It's not the most innovative, nor the prettiest, but the bare fundamentals are so completely sound (not to mention the balance) that it's almost pointless to play any other RTS unless you simply dislike the theme.

Having said that, I wouldn't bother trying to play online multiplayer in SC2. It's been years since I've played SC1, and I got absolutely demolished over and over until I finally resigned myself to never playing it online again.

You can actually play online these days without fear. You will typically win and lose 50/50 of your matches thanks to the leagues system.

I don't do multiplayer in RTS's.

Ever.

(after having being burnt in WC3 and SC1)

I would still give this game 100/100, it's just that good (for me at least)

Campaign is excellently written, designed and orchestrated, it's just beautiful.

The last few missions almost had me sweating they were so intense, and the few times you have to make descisions i was fretting over which to pick.

Just my opinions, but I really, really enjoyed this game.

You can go back to play the choice missions you didn't choose, they just don't count. the ghost/spectre one is really fun being lolo powerful.

I compare this game in terms of we hadSuper Mario Bros 1 and then we got Super Mario Bros 3 in epic ness!

To people going at the multiplayer:

The community this time around isn't as bad. Sure there are assholes, but overall I don't think you'll get verbally punished for your skill, unless someone is raging at being beaten. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact many of the more mannered competitive communities, like Team Liquid, now don't have a private server to go to anymore, so they're bringing their "GL HF" and "GG" into the mix. Some people will even be nice enough to try and teach you if you ask them.

Don't be scared to play online, and don't be discouraged. However, if you really aren't into competitive RTS gaming, then go play the custom maps; they're really good so far, although there's a lot of Tower Defense games and a DotA clone already. Or just fumble through team leagues or FFA games, or Co-Op against AI. There's plenty to do multiplayer-wise without worrying about how good you are.

I agree, it is a great game. They have done a great job with SC II and I am such an SC Fan that that replayed all of SC I leading up to launch just to go through the story line again.

However.......this has me PO'd

1) This is $60 for 1/3 of the game. If they plan to charge $60 for the other two parts that is $120. Its not that each of the other two races are going to give you a new game, its just a follow on to the main story

2) There is no LAN play and the LAN session I remember are gone. I believe that was a piss poor decision

3) A lot of the game feels dated

On the plus side, they did a marvelous job in making the game so that you don't need a $5000 rig. I wish more games where done this way. I still love the game dispite my gripes

@Zo

1) StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty is not 1/3 a game by any stretch of the imagination. It has about a 15 hour campaign depending on what difficulty you play, along with one of the best multiplayer experiences in an RTS in the past decade. Not to forget a very comprehensive map editor. This is miles more than many games offer. So when you say "game" make sure you mean "game". The story is not complete, yes, and It's technically one-third done. but this is no different than a sequel to a game, book, or movie now is it? In fact I would say we are getting a special treat because Wings of Liberty was a great experience on it's own worthy of a full games worth of content, and in addition we still get two more parts for what will likely be a 40 or 50 dollar expansion rather than a full priced sequel. And stop throwing out 60 dollars as the price for the expansions. Blizzard has pretty much unofficially stated that they will not charge full price for the expansions. Plus Blizzard has never had a 60 dollar expansions, ever. Their games have been 60 bucks since Warcraft 3 though.

2) If the place you are playing at has an internet connection what is the issue? Just play over B.net.

3) You need to be specific on this. Personally, I think you could be confusing "dated" with something else.

Disclaimer: This is my last post attempting to inform a person of their ignorance in regards to the whole "SC2 = 1/3 a game" argument. not trying to be the SC2 defense force. But, these are not legitimate complaints. Well LAN is, but only for highly competitive matches.

@Zo

I'm so tired of hearing people talk about $60 for a third of the game. Most other games literally provide a fraction of the content and replay value that this one "episode" of starcraft does. Just because starcraft one let you play the campaign for all three races doesn't mean you're getting "1/3 of a game".

The terran campain in Wings of Liberty takes way longer to complete than all of starcraft 1. This is excluding all of the achievements that you can try to accomplish and the whole set of challenge missions available.

Paying $180 for the trilogy of episodes would be a steal if you ask me. There are all kinds of good games, but few that provide this amount of content at this price point.

I think when he talks about 3), he's talking about no upkeep, no heroes, no cover... basically the same core RTS it was 12 years ago.

Actually, 40 dollars back in 1998 is worth more than 60 today thanks to inflation. So you are really paying less. That aside, I understand what you mean.

Wow, I can't remember when I last played Starcraft again until I heard the rumors about it's sequel. Finally, we've been waiting bloomin' ages but at least the more than a decade of waiting was worth it (altho i still hoped it didn't take that long for Blizzard to release it,lol.) Cool graphics, amazing terrain maps and the fight scenes are just out of this world. Starcraft 2 FTW!!!!

It seems a lot more big budget games these days are easily scoring 90+ in aggregate reviews, when they're often just mediocre and overhyped. I haven't tried Starcraft 2 yet, as I'm always a little wary of reviews after seeing the scores GTA4 got. I'll need to see some more gameplay footage before I decide.

@Misanthropic Gamer

Well, it really depends. If you don't like RTS games, don't buy it. Even the single player is more RTS than the original with less RPG missions. The custom game scene is still in it's infancy so even though the map editor is ridiculously powerful, the level of custom mods hasn't risen to greatness yet.

If you like RTS games, enjoyed the original, and love either a good story or competitive multiplayer then this is the game to buy hands down.

The one great flaw with the current implementation of battle.net is it is so EMPTY.

I have zero friends on my friends list and I've resisted the urge to put out begging posts on the fan-forums but how else am I supposed to get people to play with besides just random ladder games?

So yeah, I'm 29 with wife and kid and I like to play to have fun most of the time. I'm hyper competitive but I'm also really bad at the game. I was silver in the beta and love DotA style games and RPG's too. Send me an email at ghen5@lycos.com :P (my spam address, but I'll check it this week)

I haven't been that impressed with it. To be fair, I haven't played very far into the single player campaign. It does seem polished, but it also seems quite dated in its design. You can't scroll out worth a damn and that feature has been around for several years now with several games implementing it (like Supreme Commander & Sins of a Solar Empire). Frankly, I like Sins a whole lot more than this (even though Sins needs a campaign).

I just feel like they aren't doing much that is new from SC1. and I'm sick of looking at my units zoomed into my face. I'd like to zoom out a lot more.
