Maybe it's just me, but I never get this depth they are talking about with 3D games and movies.

The bullet arching? I can see that in BFBC2, I don't really need some filter for that, lol.

I can't wait to try out a demo station for a 3DS to see if all his hooplah is true, cause I think I will just turn the 3D off at this point.

Same here, the 3D is nice, but it's not a selling point for me.

I'm so excited for the 3DS but am I the only one who is kind of strangely off-put by Kid Icarus returning as a shooter? I mean it's not as if the gameplay for the original Kid Ick was perfect or anything, but it definitely had it's own "feel" which I think a shooter(Aside from perhaps that one level on the original) cannot replicate.

Kid Icarus was as much of a shooter as Metroid was.

@TheRealLawrence agreed. I'm getting a 3DS regardless, but I'm on the fence with the change in Kid Ick's gameplay.

I kind of feel the same way. Other than the end where you were fully powered up, the original had a heavy platforming component to the gameplay. I don't get that feeling from what I've seen of the new game. So, yeah, it barely feels like a sequel to me.

@TheRealLawrence I think it's more off-putting that they canceled a much needed Star Fox reboot with the reasoning that they couldn't do that kind of game with the 3D, and then promptly designed a Kid Icarus game exactly the same way.

Well, i didn't played the original Kid Icarus, but even if the game is a shooter, its nintendo we're talking about, and they havent dissapointed me in the last few years, they always give everythinga unique feel.

I'm not excited about the gameplay change either, seems too easy with the route they took. There's not many good platformers around anymore and this would have been a perfect opportunity to create a current gen version of Kid Icarus with the old school platforming/weapon upgrades/kickass music. Who knows though, it could be fun.

@Kid Icarus yeah and really we know so little about it so far. so it's kind of speculation on top of speculation. no real reason to worry. it's just that i like platformers more than shooters i guess. ha.

Just replying so I can use the term off-put/off-putting and throw in a few more "Kid Ick"s while I'm at it.

"It sounds like the 3D effects will be most notable for Pit's arrows and projectiles, then, rather than things being flung at the winged hero."

I think you guys didn't understand his quote, he meant that object will mostly recede into the screen, as opposed to popping out of it.

That's still a 3D effect. First it's close to you, then it's not.

I'm interested in this game but, so far, it still looks like Sakurai just jacked the gameplay of Sin and Punishment and threw a Kid Icarus coat of paint on it.

Well, being the first 3D Kid Icarus game, it has to start somewhere.

@Diodax Being the first Kid Icarus game since 25 years or so it would deffinetely have to start from somewhere. I'll be honest, I never heard of the series before smash bros brawl. It being a platform that shoots arrows from side to side, you can pretty much turn the perspective around to turn it into a third person shooter.

I've never played the original, I don't intend to and I don't mind if it's a "shooter", since in one bit of the trailer you can see Pit use his blades.

@OniMajora The 3DS is the DS2.

Umm I'll have to disagree to you there, nintendo can only sell me that game for certain amount of times until Im bored of it (windwaker, Virtual Console, and now 3DS). Granted I didn't play it on N64, I still grew up with it I was like 8 or 9 when WW came out.

@Deathmore

Which is exactly my point with regards to OOT...O_o

What was your understanding?

I've got it on the N64, I've got it on Gamecube, I've got it on Virtual Console and I've got it on emulator via Project 64 [*runs and hides*]...

So, for me to purchase this game Nintendo will have to impress me with the improvements they intend to make. They won't get my hard earned money by including some lame mini-games or a few 10 minute side-quests. They need to to something drastic and switch up core gameplay elements in a big way and add new dungeons and enemies with an emphasis on replay value, but I'm afraid to say that I very much doubt Nintendo will do that. I see this as an extortion of a new, younger audience who'll have to pay full-price for a 12 year old or thereabouts game.

I probably will buy the game at some point, but I think I'll be a smart buyer and wait a while after the launch date to see what people are saying. I don't want to get suckered in as I was when I bought Super Mario 64 DS. That day still haunts me now...

"The 3DS is the DS2."

Love me some 3-D and this new DS sounds like a winner. Hopefully Sony launches the psp2 with 3-D if it's well done on the new DS.

That's not flamebait, mind you, as I love Sony as much as I love Nintendo... I'm just saying it wouldn't be the first time.

I don't think sony want to be called copycats, they may do but who cares if they copied, it's called mainstreaming like toucscreens, you could say phones "copied" it but Id say it's mainstreaming.

If sony does come out with a PS2P, all I know is that the graphics are going to blow away 3DS' however with the lead that the 3DS and the game support it's getting, it's hard for the PS2P to take off. Unless they really try push their next handheld as the everything device, shoot video, watch movies and its slim and plays great games (and not iPhone short shovelware games)

Well... thing is... Sony is kinda infamous for copying some of Nintendo's ideas. And no... I'm not saying that Nintendo invented those things, but it was Nintendo the one who did those things mainstream.

D-Pad, analog sticks, rumble, motion controllers... heck... even the touchscreen. I'm pretty sure that the single product with more touchscreens in the world is the Nintendo DS... and soon, I'm pretty sure the 3DS will be the one who makes 3D more mainstream.

Again... I'm not saying that Nintendo invented those things... they just were the ones that made those things mainstream.

"If sony does come out with a PS2P, all I know is that the graphics are going to blow away 3DS"

Which worries me... because that means that it'll be rather expensive. 3DS' graphics are great enough, any further than that (which Sony may try to push it 1.5x-2x further than the 3DS) and the price would be ridiculous! :( :(

It already took me years to convince myself to get a PSP due to the rather limited library (great for one side of the gaming spectrum, hardly enough to interest this side of the gaming spectrum) mixed in with the price for everything - and it'll make my wallet cry.
They would need some darn amazing games on there to convince many - - - and they would need a ton more creative titles (that aren't amazing due to their modern-art and obscure gameplay design) to convince many others (me included in that "others").

...just put another The Warriors in there, I'll get it.

yeah i agree. I've been gaming since the SNES days and SONY has always copied Nintendo's idea. i wouldn't say they STOLE Nintendo's idea because Nintendo did not invent the ideas SONY has copied off of them. Nintendo doesn't always invent, they usually just take existing ideas and make them mainstream. here's an example: Analog sticks. that idea was drawn from older consoles, such as the Atari 2600, and was reduced in size.if memory serves me well then the 1st console to use Analog sticks was the N64.

I already see them now . The warnings Nintendo 'do you want to rest your eyes and save your data and take a break' will pop up and be totally annoying and part of the firmware. That is all but guaranteed to keep them from lawsuits of parents.

I can see myself leaving the 3D on off or low most of the time. After watching a couple of 3D movies the glasses tech or 3D in general screws with me too much.
