David O. Russell off Uncharted movie, 2011 release unlikely

David O. Russell, director of Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees and Spanking the Monkey, is no longer being considered for the job of directing the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune movie. The LA Times reports that Sony-owned Columbia Pictures, the movie's producers and Russell were unable to reach terms satisfactory to all parties, and now the studio has to start looking for directing talent once again, while also searching for lead actors.

The Times' Steven Zeitchik speculates that the delay caused by the lost director scuttles any chance Sony had of having the movie done in time for a 2011 release. At this rate, it'll probably coincide with the release of Uncharted 4: Baby Drake's Crystal Crawl. That's right, we're calling it now: Naughty Dog's going to change up the gameplay with a tale from Nate Drake's infancy.

Oh, wait. It's still probably not going to be good anyway, like all the other video game movies.

Dodging a bullet? All this says is that he was asking for TOO MUCH MONEY than Sony was willing to pay. David O Russel is apparently too good for the Uncharted movie. His replacement will end up being worse.

Nah.. Drake's Fortune 4 will be where drake has to find his way into a labyrinth, because the goblin king took Drakes' & Elena's baby, cos she got depressed and wanted her freedom back... while Drake was away in Drake's Fortune 3

@Mazrael The series is called Uncharted. Drake's Fortune was just the subtitle for the first game.

@Snaek Goddamn.. Someone only said to me while playing the first game on Crushing, "Drake's Fortune 2's a good game, but the girls' bum is too big" earlier, even thought to myself "it's called Uncharted..." and there I go mess it up myself,,

You know, a flashback sequence where Nate learns of his penchant for jumping over things (concrete barriers, chasms, etc) while outrunning some bullies would be kind of interesting. "Press O to drop from the monkey bars!"

Uncharted directed by David O. Russell would be a horrible action movie.

O'Russell also put Christopher Nolan in a headlock once because he was angry that Nolan initially cast Jude Law for the Prestige. He is definitely the biggest prick in Hollywood.

Dear Hollywood: Cut it out with the game-based movies. They are never good. They are never worth it. Uncharted is a great series, and will likely continue to be, but I have no doubt that a movie will just shit all over its good name.

Three Kings is great, doubt you'll find many people that say otherwise. I Heart Huckabees was alright, not horrible by any means.

Yup, definitely, though not a cart racer. Crash was a cart racer, Jak was a combat racer, so Uncharted will be what, like wipeout hd maybe?

I though I heart hucksbees was great - a total mind bender. Spanking the monkey, eh. Haven't seen three kings. None of those seem the best prep for uncharted though.

I'd rather have Uncharted 3 in 2011 anyways!!!

I think it's too soon for an Uncharted movie. I mean yes, Uncharted 2 won many awards but so did Halo 2 in its time. I think it should come out after the 3rd installment of the franchise

If there is any Video Game to Movie adaptation that I want to actually work, it has to be Uncharted... hell, I'd take any GOOD tie-in, but seeing as it's going through production hell and missing key parts, I won't be surprised if the next few headlines about this movie involve the word "canceled".

here's a thought. dont make the movie at all. why do people think this is a good idea. these characters where created and exist perfectly in the video games they were meant for. i dont want it to be tarnished in the hands of others.

OMG! YES! Nathan Fillion = Nathan Drake, They both look the same, have the same sort of humor (sarcastic/matter of fact), and can both be really serious and "actiony" (is that a word?) In short it would be a perfect match! :D

Nah, I think the best casting decision for Nathan Drake would be Stargate Atlantis' Joe Flanigan.

He looks like him. He sounds like him. And he's got an impishness that could carry the humour.

if they make this they should just cast nolan north. i think that would get alot more people to see it.
