Video game soundtracks on sale at Amazon MP3
48
Amazon MP3's frequently rotating selection of $5 downloadable albums has been visited by a handful of soundtracks from current-gen games. These include the harmonica-centric sounds of Red Dead Redemption, the ambient future-noise of Mirror's Edge, the eclectic tunes of LittleBigPlanet and more -- all for a mere five-spot.
Of course, we'd suggest you also take some time to consider purchasing a handful of other MP3 albums which were marked down for the month of August, but that wouldn't be appropriate. Like, should you buy Huey Lewis and the News' Greatest Hits compilation? Well, of course -- but we can't tell you to do so, because we're not a Huey Lewis and the News blog. At least, not during the weekdays.

"Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor. "
"In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. "

American Psycho (the movie) was pretty good....The book was 100 times better though. Definitely read it if you enjoyed the movie!

Strongly disagree, the movie was way better than the book in this case. Way more enjoyable tone with a more focused vision. Very entertaining film.

I actually enjoyed the movie more. i love Bret Ellis but the obsessive descriptions of what everyone was wearing in the book really slowed the pace and got very tiresome. otherwise it was excellent.
Can't wait for Lunar Park. Hopefully Christian Bale will play Bateman in that as well...

I think you missed the entire point of the book. But to each his own. Also...the obsessive clothes thing made sense seeing as how Patrick Bateman was obsessed with the details. It certainly did get annoying but it was supposed to.

Video game soundtracks are sorely underappreciated by music stores; Zune has barely any (mostly MS games), as does iTunes.
Also, 5 bucks is the perfect price - 15/20 is too much for what is sometimes just ambiance (Mirror's Edge).
Also^2, where be my Mirror's Edge 2, EA?!

Go to keepvid.com, put in the Youtube URL of the song you want. Save the file as .mp4 Get Quicktime Pro (there's a common registration key that you can input to get the pro version) and convert to .wav. Now keep that or use Audacity to convert to .mp3.
There's sites out there that let you convert Youtube videos straight to .mp3. But I like to download the .mp4 file b/c you do the converting, rather than some site converting it. You don't know what they might stick in it.

That sounds like waaaaayyy too much effort to pirate things. Just google "x OST torrent", with X being the name of the game you want.
Presto.

Except my method isn't pirating. It's 100% legal. I'm downloading free public videos and extracting the audio. Now uploading copyrighted material to Youtube is illegal, but everyone does it and just says "I don't mean any copyright infringement with this video, but it's just too awesome not to post"

Not paying for it = illegal. Not sure why you think graying up the lines changes that.
If we're playing that game, torrents arent illegal either since I'm just sharing partial files that just so happen can be assembled in such a way to make a file.

i wouldn't pay for the rest of the Mirror's Edge soundtrack, but the theme song is great.
and +1 for Mirror's Edge 2. the first one was some of the most straight-up fun i've had in a game. the gameplay is so great. i wouldn't have minded less cops though...

I guess that's a pretty good deal. For the most part though, videogame soundtracks are composed of licensed songs so if you just want a couple songs off the soundtrack you'd be better off getting those individually.
The last Videogame song I had to get was the commercial music for GTA Ballard of Gay Tony. That was a damn good dance beat.
The Gay Tony commercial is way better than the official video though. I think that commercial made me like it more.

Really? REALLY? You have any idea who Nobuo Uematsu, Jesper Kyd, Jeremy Soule, Marty O'Donnell, Inon Zur, Koji Kondo, Junichi Masuda, Dan Forden, Harry Gregson-Williams, Akira Yamaoka, Masashi Hamauzu, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yasunori Mitsuda, Russell Shaw, Matt Uelman, Tommy Tallarico? Because you've probably played a few of their games and more than likely got some of their music stuck in your head. 95+% of games (not including sports) use original scores. I can't even believe you said this.
Unless you've just gotten into gaming in the PS3/360 generation, just WOW........

We must not be playing the same games then. Almost all of the games I play contain original music composed or arranged for the game. To the exclusion of even a single licensed song or artist even.

I guess I should have made it clear that I am well aware of the games that have internally developed soundtracks. But when you think of the advertising and marketing for a game all you see is the licensed stuff.
I guess it's my fault for being a little bias. The only songs that I have heard are the ones in TV commercials and whatever is in game trailers. Even right now Medal of Honor just announced their soundtrack featuring Lincoln Park.
I miss the days when music from games was memorable. I don't get that too much these days, even if the soundtrack is original.

Only thing I knew by Yuzo Koshiro was Culdcept Saga, but I thought he'd be too remote for most. I do love that OST though.

This makes zero mention about marketing or commercials. Not sure if you're backpedaling or if you're just incoherent.
But then you said this anyways...
"I miss the days when music from games was memorable. I don't get that too much these days, even if the soundtrack is original."
More soundtracks are memorable now-a-days then they ever were. Very creative and gets stuck in your head. Not sure what you base this on. Maybe you just don't play good games anymore? In 2009, there was Dawn of War 2, Infamous, Machinarium, Madworld, Halo ODST (awesome OST), Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Dragon Age, and Persona 3 Portable that were hugely notable. 2008, Castle Crashers, Lost Odyssey, The World Ends with You, Mirror's Edge, Fable 2, Fallout 3, LBP, Age of Conan, Dead Space, World of Goo, Persona 4, Tales of Vesperia, WoW: Wrath of Lich King...
So, what are you talking about a lack of good game OSTs? Seriously, listen to Age of Conan's OST. That's a friggin MMO and the soundtrack is AMAZING

Its more about personal taste really. Maybe I just prefer the 8bit simple midi sounding music from back in the day. I can't explain it really, its personal opinion.
The most recent soundtracks that I took a liking to were Smash Bros Brawl and Sonic Unleashed. I can't remember anything from 2009-2010 that stayed in my head for long.

first off, if you're talking about some legitimate free method of getting the soundtrack, then this reply is not aimed at you.... but if you're talking about torrenting them illegally, then yeah, you can get them for free...
...by being a donkey butt.
Seriously, you have to pirate a $5 album? With no DRM? You must have no morality whatsoever. That's about a quarter per track, for the RDR album. One quarter per track....remember that price? That was like the dream price for iTunes tracks which never happened. But even that would have been DRM'ed (back when it was new), so these are even better than that.

Dangit, all those soundtracks on sale now made me hope the L'Affaire Farewell OST was also $5. Clint Mansell music is an amazing companion while writing, and The Fountain OST got put on repeat while doing my latest edits.
Oh well, it's only $8.99 so I'll buy it anyway in a couple days. Might throw in the LBP and/or Mirror's Edge soundtracks while I'm there (cheap is good, yo).

I loved the RDR soundtrack. There was this one time I was following a guy on horseback, at night, in a thunderstorm and the dialog had glitched out so is was completely quiet but for the ambient sounds and the score. That combined with the scenery had a profound impact on me. Very zen.
