Some good news for patient Game Room fans today, as Game Pack 008 has been released -- and Centipede along with it. Joining Atari's classic segmented shooter are three other Atari 2600 titles: 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe, Beamrider and Cosmic Commuter; in addition to Intellivision's Thin Ice. As usual with Game Room updates, the remainder of Game Pack 008, which includes six more Atari 2600 games and four more Intellivision titles, will be released over the coming weeks.

I think this is the first time I've ever heard of it...

Looks like Centipede is the latest Beamrider to hitch a ride on the Cosmic Commuter, right over that large patch of Thin Ice!
(Yeah, no way to fit 3D Tic-Tac-Toe in there.)

so you're saying this is the 2600 version and not the arcade original? everyone knows that the 2600 got the crappiest ports of all the classic arcade games. except for the fantastic Yar's Revenge. is that available in the game room?
how have they managed to screw up the game room so badly in so little time????

I adore Game Room. I look forward to it every Wednesday more than the XBLA releases! I still have DOZENS of 2600 and arcade games I'm waiting for.
Thanks for the continued coverage, Joystiq. Much of the community seems to overlook it entirely.

@Magic Whiskey I'm right there with you! I hope they do add more consoles but I still love the Atari classics.

I think it's a novel idea, despite the Game Room interface being god awful. I'd be a lot more keen on Game Room if each game had their own achievements though. I'd be even keener if Konami would hurry up and put Roc 'N Rope on there!

Except it's the shitty 2600 version, so who cares? The arcade version of Centipede has been in Game Room since the beginning, for the record.
I love Game Room, a lot, but it seems that their well has finally run dry. I can only assume at this point that they were unable to get other publishers on board, and there's only so many Atari and Konami arcade titles out there.
Sad, really, because it had potential as a service. I discovered so many cool games from an era before I began my gaming career, but there hasn't been a decent release in several weeks. And now NO arcade titles? Yeah, I'm good thanks.

Centipede isn't the same without using the trackball and constantly pinching the palm of your hand with it.

Wikipedia has a full, concise list. BTW I guess I am one of the rare few that LOVES Game Room. Suppose that means I'm an old fart now...good!

@Shadsy I'd love to see some of the C64 games I used to play on there.

Why don't they list all the games in each game pack release on XBOX LIVE....I find this to be one of the biggest pains when downloading them.
Some people don't care about GAME ROOM...but as an veteran gamer...I do.
There have definitely been some diamond in the rough releases that I didn't expect;.
KEEP 'EM COMING MICROSOFT!!

I love the concept of Game Room, and I'm glad to see video arcade games brought to the 360, but I'm totally underwhelmed by the heavy reliance on Atari 2600 and Intellivision titles as of late.
For the most part, they're--- meh. Some really don't control well at all and some haven't aged well. There may be a few worth playing, but I think there's too many coming these days.
If you're going to translate old console games, how about something NEWER than the Atari 2600 and Intellivision? Why not release more arcade games?
