Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta leaping to PSN Sept. 13

You've only got a little bit over a month to get ready for the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer beta. Ubisoft has announced a start date of September 13 -- and remember, it's exclusive to PS3. The only way to get access to the beta in North America (for now, at least) is by pre-ordering the game at your local GameStop.

There are apparently only a limited number of slots available in the beta, so tokens will be doled out to customers on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you already pre-ordered, you can bring your receipt to a GameStop starting on August 9 for entry. The beta entry process for those who live on, say, any other continent in the world is still unknown, but you can be sure that we've asked Ubisoft for more info.

North American GameStop Customers Who Preorder Assassin's Creed Brotherhood for the PlayStation®3 Computer Entertainment System Will Receive Exclusive Access to the Pre-Launch PlayStation 3 Multiplayer Beta.

San Francisco – August 5, 2010 – Kicking off the countdown to the game's release this November, Ubisoft and GameStop, Corp. (NYSE: GME), today announced a pre-launch multiplayer beta of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood exclusively for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The beta is only available to customers who pre-order the game through GameStop stores in North America. Recently named the Best Online Multiplayer Game of E3 2010 by Game Critics Awards, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is the first game in franchise history to include a multiplayer mode.

The pre-launch beta will feature brand new multiplayer gameplay and serve as a final stress test for the online systems of the game, allowing fans to get a glimpse of the one-of-a-kind gameplay and a chance to provide feedback to the development team prior to its release. With only a limited number of beta slots available, fans who pre-order the game at GameStop will be given access to a unique token on a first-come, first-served basis that will allow them to download the beta from PlayStation®Network for PlayStation 3 system. Fans who have already pre-ordered Assassin's Creed Brotherhood from GameStop will be able to take their receipt to a GameStop store beginning August 9 to obtain a beta token.

The PlayStation 3 system beta of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood is scheduled to begin on September 13.

Well, lucky you. I rented both of them off of gamefly. Their god awful.

@Mrguy you know that guy - Blowing things out of proportion, god I love it. If by 'God awful' you mean perfectly competent portable games, I'm right there with you. They both have their flaws, but the Discovery in particular is worth playing if you're a fan of the series.

@Mrguy you know that guy - Yeah, you don't like them ... that's cool. That doesn't make them god awful. As I said, you're blowing it out of proportion just like every gamer on the interweb. Everything has got to be black and white when it comes to game quality anymore, sheesh.

And I said he's alone. He and a few other entitled gamers in protest about adding multiplayer components to games they had nothing to do with creating.

All alone with the millions of other people who will buy/rent this game, play through the single player, try out the multiplayer for a couple minutes, and then move on to something else. Thus leaving the multiplayer to barely cling to life like it is in every other game that didn't need multiplayer.

But hey, you enjoy it. You and the five other people who will still be playing it a month after launch.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Apparently there is a full single player quest as well. I'm not much interested in multiplayer gaming in general, but I will probably pick this one up for the single player.

I just finished RE-playing AC2 all the way through after triggering an interesting bug: If you buy the combo (memory 13, 14) DLC and you're on the memory for the Vatican, you CANNOT finish the game. Thanks, Ubisoft. No more DLC for me.

Maybe he's played them all already? got that trouble with with 360 at the moment.. I could play chapter 2 onwards of Alan Wake since I've had it since day 1.. but was playing been playing my small PS3 game collection instead.. even that POS called Crackdown 2

@Mazrael maybe....but he would have to not be into RPGs, FPS's, or sports titles.....what game types does that leave? I'm about to start playing thru ME1 and then 2 on my 360 again...

Literally guys, I've got a PS3 and PC and I'm seriously bored of my games atm.
Played everything I've got to death and nothing's really jumping out at me off the PSN store these last couple weeks.

I completely agree. I've resorted to trying the 14 day trial of Everquest 2, simply out of boredom.

This is the best news day ever! Batman and Assassin's Creed in one day = Awesome!

Even if they were having a beta for Xbox, it would be very poorly timed. September, as everyone knows, is Halo month.

Doesn't mean I don't want to play it though. Looks awesome. Have fun PS3 guys!

I would be excited but I don't own a PS3! Feels like I am missing out more and more without a PS3 nowadays..

Only at GameStop? smh....why cant they do Amazon as well.....at least then I can order the game a, get the code, and cancel my pre-order from the comfort of my home....

It's a dick move, but you can. I did it to get that awesome Turok shirt.

That's what I'm gonna do, except instead of canceling, I'll probably just switch my $5 to the 360 version.

The most boring game of all time is going multiplayer? I'm really not a fanboy but the fact that this is a PSN exclusive is absolutely hilarious.

Were any of you around back in the day when a beta really was a beta. You would play the game, make notes on things that did not work. Once you had a decent amount of stuff you would submit a bug list back to the developers and they would work on them, then push out a new version of the game to you.

What happened to the good old days?

I'm assuming it's not called a demo because then if there's anything seriously wrong with it, they can fix it and blame it on being a beta. It may be more like a demo now, but it's safer that way.

presumably the developers do use the "beta" to tune network performance and such on the back end. probably not anything that affects the code on the disk, just the server-side stuff to get it running smoothly.

if it was a demo, then it wouldn't be limited to preorders, because the point of a demo is to try something out BEFORE you buy it....

What's with all the mp betas going ps3 exclusively. Most of the games I really font care about or want anyway ( but I'd like to play them for free).

Sony is obviously paying for the exclusivity 'cause if you really want beta feedback you'd go multiplat or xbox 360 (you know where more people are online so you can really fix the bugs?)

Well having more people online doesn't really change how effective the beta could be. The games are still usually limiting how many people can participate (and it's usually MUCH less than the amount of people online).

And I'm also pretty sure XBL doesn't have much more people online than PSN, if any.

If they're developing on the PS3 before 360, the beta code will be done first. Then they can use the info from the PS3 beta to make changes in all the versions. If they waited for all versions to be done, they would have to delay the beta, ultimately delaying release. Plus, they'll have fewer changes to make because they can just put them in as they go.

I'm actually surprised that not all betas are exclusive or just come out first on the lead platform, whichever it is. I expect it's because of people who complain about it 'not being fair,' for no reason at all. So please, stop delaying releases! :P

If this has a single player, I'll get it.. when its cheap - but only if its good.

Not interested in the multiplayer. :/

AC2 was awesome, actually AC1 was pretty damn good too. Brotherhood will surely be as good if not better than AC2.
