Batman: Arkham City coming to PC, PS3 and 360 in Fall 2011

The sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum now has an official title -- Batman: Arkham City -- and will launch on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in Fall 2011. There go your fears of deleterious franchise annualization! Of course, we might just go mad waiting so long for the follow-up to one of 2009's best games.

As you may have guessed from a handful of internet domain registrations, the sequel will take place in "Arkham City", a "heavily fortified" mini-city deep inside Gotham City. Warner Bros. Interactive hasn't offered further details on the game's plot or new features, but a pair of gorgeous Game Informer covers (September issue) hint at a more brutal tone and reveal some of the villains Batman may encounter. You'll spot a very patriotic Two-Face, and a possible romantic interest in Catwoman.

The official Batman: Arkham City website is up now, though it only displays the initial teaser trailer from the VGAs at the moment.

I'm hoping that the Catwoman scene depicted on the game informer cover is in the game. does this mean i have some subconscious bondage fetish?

So what I'm getting from this thread is that the next game needs bondage and batmobiles. And that's just fine.

I was really surprised at how good Batman:AA was. I was never really interested in it in the run up to release but as soon as i played it i was hooked.

This is a must buy for me.

Nearly the same thing for me. I really had no interest in it, but I knew that the hype for it seemed bigger than usual for a super hero game. Then the demo came out a few days before, I played it... then I played it again... and again. And then I bought the game immediately the day it came out. I now can't wait for Arkham City.

@Yeah TB Second best sleeper tie-in game EVAR...first best was Chronicles of Riddick. I think it had something to do with the perfect blend of stealth, puzzle solving, and down right bad-assery that both games had. Either way no one saw them coming.

@ExplicitFunction Absolutely buying this game. I may even pre-order, something I never do. The PC demo had me sold on it, and I then had to beat it on Xbox several times. A true masterpiece. Here's hoping they don't mess it up.

@MDizzy But AA wasn't a tie-in game. Unless you mean the Batman franchise in general. Butcher Bay was tied in with the Riddick film, though (as a side note, apparently they're working on a sequel, and maybe a full-on trilogy - that would be awesome, I love the ending in the original).

Hmmm...I guess this means the game will launch about a year from now (seeing how the first was out around this time last year).

I'm very happy to hear Rocksteady is taking their sweet time with this. I seriously can't wait to dive back into the world they created. I loved the first one so much that after getting the full 1000 Achievements on the 360 version, I actually went and rented the PS3 version to get the Platinum Trophy!

...yes I know that's sad.

What would be sad is if you went and got the Game of the Year edition, which has a separate set of achievements, and got 1000/1000 on that, too!

It'd be even sadder if he brought a PC that could run Batman AA and then brought the normal and GOTY edition on the PC and 1000/1000 them both

A: It's sequel doesn't immediately come out within a year.

As excited I am about the actual game, I'm almost more excited to find out who will be voicing Catwoman and 2face.

AA was so solid with the voice acting and it was great to have a lot of the original cast members from the animated show.

Wonder if that's going to be the same with cats and face.

When that was brought up to the developers when AA first released they said that the grapple hook was the "jump" feature. Batman auto jumped anything low enough. I was fine with it. It suits the gameplay well. Who needs to just pointlessly jump anyway?

I agree. He jumps when he needs to, they don't need a button dedicated to just jumping. It also helps sell the weighty feeling of controlling him, he's quick, but not a little ninja who has to constantly hop around.

You guys really don't know how happy this news makes me. I mean, I've been waiting since December for some information and here it is! And it'll keep me going until the release of Nolan's new Batman movie!

@Iron Man Unless there was something I missed, once you beat Arkam Asylum, the game is done. If you go back in, it goes to your last save point before you finished the game.

I'm not expecting to roam all over Gotham, but the ability to roam through the Arkham City portion would be nice. Much the same way that you do in Assassin's Crred 2.

Saying that I jizzed in my pants would be an understatement.

I heard the GOTY edition's achievement count as a new retail game. Third times a charm, right? ;)

You guys always ruin the surprise for me. My Copy of GI always shows up about 3-4 days after you run these articles.

Arkham City? More like Boner City cause that's how raging and awesome it's gonna be. I cannot wait another day, please fast forward a year.

Also, is this gameinformer out yet? That's a sick cover.
