Batman: Arkham City coming to PC, PS3 and 360 in Fall 2011

The sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum now has an official title -- Batman: Arkham City -- and will launch on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in Fall 2011. There go your fears of deleterious franchise annualization! Of course, we might just go mad waiting so long for the follow-up to one of 2009's best games.

As you may have guessed from a handful of internet domain registrations, the sequel will take place in "Arkham City", a "heavily fortified" mini-city deep inside Gotham City. Warner Bros. Interactive hasn't offered further details on the game's plot or new features, but a pair of gorgeous Game Informer covers (September issue) hint at a more brutal tone and reveal some of the villains Batman may encounter. You'll spot a very patriotic Two-Face, and a possible romantic interest in Catwoman.

The official Batman: Arkham City website is up now, though it only displays the initial teaser trailer from the VGAs at the moment.

The only problem I had with Batman: AA? It got released early in the year and got dwarfed by a bunch of late-year releases.

On a more serious note, good gravy yes this will be awesome.

@TheAmishPirate Arkham Asylum came out in late August, that's hardly early in the year. I don't get how it got "dwarfed" either, it won plenty of GOTYs and sold a ton, it only got dwarfed if you just forgot about it.

I hope with this one, once you beat the game, you can go back into Gotham and continue to play around. I did not at all like the non-after ending part of the 1st game.

What are you talking about? You could go back into the asylum and get riddler challenges done. As for free roam, that's not going to happen. It says it'll only be one of the districts in Gotham. Awesome nonetheless

@Iron Man I think he means that once you beat AA, there's nothing left (challenges aside). You can literally roam the asylum and there are no enemies (aside from the lunatics).

Maybe that's not what he means, though.

I didn't care because I focused on upping my score on the leaderboards after that. When I stopped playing all my combat challenges, I was top 500 in just about all of them except Shock and Awe....I haaaate Shock and Awe.

I just want co-op campaign with possible Robins (night Wing) or Batgirl choices as partners for Batman. Hey maybe we'll get an exclusive Azrael co-op option.

You're right but I'm saying add it from the get go as part of the game not some DLC. But yeah, if anything they'll get douche bag about it ruining the whole thing. I just like playing with friends and co-op would fit this game to a tee.

That's a nice ass cover. I had idea that Batman AA would of been a great game. It really was. Im looking forward to the next 1 hopefully it's a bit longer.

He was referencing the part just before the last time you fight Scarecrow, right before the game "glitches". Someone on the Arkham PA system says "Did you catch the game last night?".

I wish they went with one of the other titles. Arkham City makes no sense. If that's the route they wanted to take, I would've rather they went with Batman: The Narrows.

Hell yes. My only problem is that it's coming out in 2011. Just like with the third Batman movie, I wish I could be cryogenically frozen and thawed the day of its release. Most anticipated game of '11.

They need to make a batman game like they do the spiderman games. A giant map of Gotham city and you can free roam all over the place... jump up buildings with a grappling hook and all that good stuff.

Seems like a random time to drop an announcement for a game that's over a year out

@Mr Khan They announced the game at the Spike VGA awards last November, but still, it is surprising they didn't unveil it at Comic Con or something
