There needs to be a new feature titled: Yep, More Molyneux.

Of course, it couldn't be a weekly or daily feature. Maybe.. bi-hourly?

Aw, dang. No doubt Peter was going to throw in some awesome movement controls like "pet your dog", "wave to bystander", or perhaps "hail carriage taxi."

When will the tech finally catch up with all of Molyneux's groundbreaking ideas?

When they realise that controller-less gaming is actually a very stupid idea for most games ?

When they admit precision is key for any proper game ...

When they realise buttons are not just some fancy extras on a controller but are actually a necessity ?

When they realise that human beings are pretty useless without tools and its tools that have helped us build our civilisations, not just pretending to hold tools ?

Just some ideas ..

@McDuckScrooged If flailing around like an idiot, in the vain hope that you're actions will possibly make something happen in the game itself doesn't sound like fun, I don't know what does.

With the recent popularity of Just Dance and how gaming press is fawning over Dance Central and that Rez-like Kinect game, I would assume there is a sect of people that would enjoy no precision and more flailing around.

Trying to make flailing motions in a serious/hardcore reaction type game is insulting however.

This is the one and only time I will support the "ship now fix later" mentality poisoning the game industry today. Ship the game now and fix motion controls later. I say this mainly because I could care less about motion controls ...well I do like them but they only really enhance certain games, odds are yours isn't one... just get the damn game out and if you never bother with fixing the motion controls, so be it.

Well, in this case there wouldn't be anything to "fix" later IMO. Most likely the Kinect features would be some mini-games or extra content that don't really change the way you play the main game, and that's an easy sale as DLC.

Also, I agree with you on the release now, add Kinect later. New tech always needs more development time in order to work properly.

You truly are a moron if you think that the entire industry has a "ship now, fix later" mentality! Yes games like MW2 and other annual games are plagued by this, and whatever they need to fix sure as hell doesn't render them unplayable! You act as if the industry is just pumping out garbage as fast as it can. Think of all the glitches in older games that were never fixed, it's not due to a lack of caring. You largely do not know these issues exist because you built the game and therefore you know how it is supposed to be played. If you build a game you can't really objectively test it, so yes you do have to release it to the wild and hopefully you catch all the glitches in the beta, but not always the case. Red Dead Redemption was in development for like 5 years and they just released a patch the other day that fixed a litany of issues. Would you rather wait six more months for them to fix some minor issues? Yeah that's what I thought, ship now fix later! *facepalm*

Kinect is falling apart. Now even the pre-release marketing hype can't hold together.

KS has just put too much on the shoulders of Kinect. Just as Sony has with Move. They both want motion gaming to be seen as revolutionary and to promise amazing things to gamers and to bring huge boosts in sales.

But between problems with the technology and just the ill-suitedness of motion controls to "hardcore" (precision, long-session) gaming.

@spin cycle - The difference is Sony has precision..

From the start when they demoed the thing in e3 2009 Sony showed tech demo's, showed the thing running live.. Since then they had the technology down, it wasn't about flashy marketing videos, what you see is what you get.

Watch this :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uF_fasPphc -- Never-Before-Seen Playstation Move Tech Demo's

This is the latest bunch of tech demo's Sony have been showing off.. This gives you an idea of precision, its ultimately up to the developers to utilise it properly, but looking at the tech demo's it becomes very clear how freaking accurate this controller is.. Look at how they demo it , they don't care they have the tech locked down tight they don't ask people to stand in a particular way to move a particular way, to get out of the way.. It doesn't matter, none of it seems to matter, the controller just works..

I think the two are wildly different, I wouldn't paint both with the same brush.. I think move will sell well among the people that already own a ps3, it may even encourage people to buy a ps3..

Kinect never impressed me, I really dont know how well it will do..

By December / January we will definitely all know .. Either they will both flop, both be successful, or 1 will flop and the other will be a success.

I know a lot of people like this guy, but he always comes off as a pompous ass to me. Not so much here, but almost everything he says is hot air and he really hasn't made that many great video games. Fable is cool and all, but he always acts like he's the smartest guy in the room and his concepts are sooooooo groundbreaking. (listen to his little rant on leveling up)

Also the things he says are soooooo vague! IF he WAS a betting man....... I THINK the future is PROBABLY bright. How do you go from definitely to "Ehhhhhhhh well we may possibly do it at some point if we feel like it and we can get the god awful tech to do something that is remotely interesting. "

It's funny that he was among the first to get his hands on the tech and is supposed to be "god's gift to gamers" (in his own mind) and even he can't get any interesting implementation of of Kinect!

I'm in no way going to compare this guy to the great minds if Galileo or da Vinci. But don't you think we need people Like this to push the boundrays of what's possible in games. I too think he's a little bit of a nut job but at least there's someone out there that can make us think about what could be possible.

@yinzjagz - You people really need to find someone else to hate, someone who doesn't contribute a bloody thing to gaming. Molyneux works his arse off, not only coming up with cool new stuff and designing EXCELLENT games, but managing a boatload of studios including Lionhead and Rare.

So he gets enthusiastic, so he sometimes oversells and under delivers, so what? His games are still great, and he owns up to his faults more than any individual developer in the industry. He hardly has an air of thinking he's 'God's gift to gamers.' He comes off as being genuinely in love with what he does, and eager to share his work with the world ... that's a damn good thing for someone in any sort of creative position.

Molyneux deserves to speak his mind, it's not like he's hurting anyone. And I look forward to playing whatever the hell he comes up with, seeing as he's had a hand in some of my absolute favourite games. The guy doesn't need to stop, it's people like you - and seemingly the rest of the Joystiq lot - that need to take a breather.

I'm not here ranting and raving about the developers I'm not terribly fond of every time they make some claptrap statement or develop another underwhelming game (Jaffe, Bleszinski) ... because they work hard, they contribute, they make gaming better, and they deserve their recognition. What have you lot done worth a damn lately?

Keep speaking your mind Molyneux, I find it fascinating.

I think it's fair to say that you have a fair amount of nerd rage built up inside of you. And what have rare pumped out under Molyneaux's helm? He's a bag of hot air, ANYONE can talk about what they WANT to do! His leveling up speech was pure garbage, and made no sense plus All his years of broken promises plus the fact that he really hasn't created anything interesting since the first fable. I think it's time to do less talking and more rocking!

There's a difference between speaking your mind and making lofty empty promises about what you WANT or COULD do if the tech were there and you had infinite time. Basically anyone can dream, and his "visions" are better left for developer conferences than as promises to fans!

I like my controller. I could care less about controller-less play, and I don't have any fantasies about playing all of my games either without a controller or with a chuck-like device like the Wii. The main reason I do not own a Wii to this day is that I don't care for the chuck, and the fact that it is forced upon Wii players instead of giving them an option. If I want a workout I can do it without my game console being involved! (And what is really disappointing in the Wii's example is that the Wavebird controller was the best ever made). I am hoping that this supid Kinect thing never takes off so MS won't try and force everyone to play that way.
