Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock takes the stage September 28
27
Anxious to get your hands on Activision's werething-infused rock-em-up, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock? Activision revealed a launch date for the game during its annual investors call last night: September 28 (September 24 in the UK). For those of you keeping score at home, that's a full month before the arrival of its competitor, Rock Band 3, which is set to launch on October 26.
Outside of being compatible with "your existing Guitar Hero music library," Warriors of Rock adds 95 new tracks into the mix, including re-recordings from Alice Cooper and The Runaways. Additionally, if you're one of the first million to purchase the game in North America, you get a free Soundgarden album.

I would consider coming back to Guitar Hero games if they cleaned up the note's look some. It just doesn't feel as smooth and easy to see as Rock Band, and even THEY are tweaking their look for the better.

Ok, I don't get this. You really pick one game over the other based on the way the notes look? I'm not picking on you or anything, I really just don't understand, cause if you'd ask me (and I own both GH:WT and RB2), I couldn't even tell you what the difference is, cause I don't remember.
For me, I've picked up GH:WT for the fact I liked the drumkit slightly better and an even bigger reason was it had a full album from Oasis available for DLC. For me it's all about the music, but I guess that's just me. I can understand you prefer certain gameplay features over others, but just the look of notes.. really?

It's still early and I forgot to add to that that I did pick up RB2 as well, at the same time, because to me it's the better game. For me it really comes down to the music available for it and RB2 just has a bigger library.

Yup. I've stuck with Guitar Hero through World Tour also, and you know what? Rock Band just feels more fun to me, as it's easier for me, personally, to visually pick up and interpret the notes.
The circles on Guitar Hero have a less easily defined location than a straight bar, when they're flying fast.

Now, part of the reason why I have no idea what the notes look like probably also has something to do with the fact I only play drums or sing. I don't like playing the guitar in rythm games.

If you can't tell the difference, or "don't remember", you must have played those games for a total of an hour. GH looks like ass compared to RB.

Soo... you want more sense of depth to the notes?
...would 3D help?

That's weird, because I find Guitar Hero's notes far, far easier to see and hit.
In my list of Pros and Cons, that's a big tick for Guitar Hero. I actually still prefer Guitar Hero overall despite it's flaws, and actually the notes are probably a big factor in that decision.

Will we be able to use regular controllers to play the guitar in this? Ever since Guitar Hero Metallica it seemed like they made controllers microphone only.

@Yeah TB I have double jointed fingers that sort of lock into themselves whenever I try to play the guitar. I only get about in 1 in 10 notes even on medium

@wcarnation And to a lot of consumers there is nothing wrong with that. I hate getting drawn into the flame war over games that are essentially identical in mechanics. (Yes RB3 has pro mode, woo-hoo, but not every person that likes these games even cares about those features, much less being willing to shell out the ridiculous amount of cash to take advantage of them.) 80 bucks for a keyboard, 150 for the guitar controller (and thats the cheap one). This is a recession folks, and people still worry about the bottom line.

gonna get this over rock band 3. In my opinion it's got a much better track list (half of them I'd love to play, the other half I'd like to. W/ Rock Band there's generally only about 4 or 5 songs on there I even like). And don't even start on the "Well you can buy them on RBN!" trip. Not gonna spend $60 on a game, then $30 more on the tracks I want to play when I can just buy a different game and get a majority of the tracks I want.

@xddga Why buy the whole bookstore if you are only interested in a few authors? It makes total sense. The people trumpeting the new RB3 features likely have more choices financially, than others who like more bang for their buck. It still costs money to download those other tracks. Up until recently, the downloadable library was all RB had over GH, now they have extra features that cost a shitload to take advantage of. Great, but if you are not ready to make the investment, sixty bucks for a GH game with a solid setlist will do just fine.

@ (unverified) If he really gave a shit about a real guitar he would go out and buy one, that or a keyboard. The learning tools are free on the internet. It's a cool teaching tool, but if you are not into the songs being taught what is the point? They havent even said what they are doing about backward compatability for pro-mode. All of the songs work, but they have not said anything about whether you can play them all in pro mode, or if they are adding keys to the back catalog.
