Video: Monday Night Combat is all about Support
59
While the first Monday Night Combat developer walkthrough introduced us to the Tank, today's video shows off the Support. As his name implies, the Support ... erm ... supports the team by hacking turrets, healing teammates and calling in air strikes. See him in action after the break.

Saw this earlier; this class could not look more overpowered.

I agree that the class looks over powered. On the other hand, the support class looks really fun to play.

I think if you use this class it's an easy win, upgrade passive up so it boosts your robots, get behind a jack bot, constantly heal him, and easily take out their money ball. And maybe if you feel like it upgrade turret and hack so when you get to their base you can heal yourself too.

I'm glad to see that the Support isn't defense only, and can actually be a decent offensive player, too.

Well I guess it's hard kind of hard to support if you're gifted with the tank. I wouldn't say that's overrated, no sir. Size matters, here.

It's the combination of TF2's engineer and medic.
Honestly, I wish they were just a bit more original with this game. I don't mind it when companies "borrow" ideas, but this is damn-near copying.

@Raiki can you blame them? valve pretty much abandoned tf2 on the xbox.

@Raiki I find that to be a pretty unfair statement. TF2 is not the only game that's allowed to be a class-based shooter. Also, the classes that are present in that game area so basic that it is just plain unreasonable for them not to appear in other class-based shooters in some form.
I mean, honestly, you think having a medic class is considered unjustified copying?

I think if you look at the concept it's trying to be somewhat original (well as original as any FPS/3rd Person Shooter can be) and really outside of having moderately cartoonish humans, and sharing common class traits it's hard to say Valve owns a monopoly on that.
But where I think it does becomes uncomfortable, is it feels like they've intentionally spent a lot of time studying TF2's success, and have tried to out outright emulate that same "game plan" to achieve success for itself. So I share your sentiments for the most part.

This I agree with.
I watched this video and it just looked like TF2 only it's third person and they have turrets that move.
Sure, I'm generalizing. But then I watch this game and I think to myself, "wow, I played this game before and I wasn't a fat Kevin Smith lookalike."

But Uber's "game plan" is nothing like TF2's. The playable modes in MNC are unlike any of the maps in TF2, and the cash, ability-leveling, and AI "creep" mechanics are unique to MNC, as well.
Really, the only reason why comparisons are drawn to TF2 so often is because of :
A) being a class-based shooter
B) having a cartoon aesthetic

@wcarnation while ms was a big part of the problem, iirc i read that valve was having issues with performance. they couldn't get the addons to work with the amount of ram that the 360 has (please correct me if im wrong) but even then, im sure they could have worked out some sort of deal. as it stands there are a grand total of 13 tf2 players on the xbox.

Noo, I think you've missed what I meant by "Game Plan", although to be fair, the correct term I'm looking for isn't coming to mind. What I'm trying to get across, is it's a unique game, but the manor in which it was constructed is marginally similar to TF2, which I think is where the uncomfortable similarities lay. I think anyone complaining about classes, needs to look at MMORPG's and just how much overlay in between games there is.

@Zamzoph The game looks like a mash up of Quake 3 As in the maps and jumping around really really reminded me of quake 3..
The money ball concept and the objective really reminded me of Unreal tournament and the big ball destroying which is shielded (I think its UT3 I am talking about)
The character models and classes looks like TF2
I am really impressed by it and hope they release this multiplat, if they released this on the ps3 I would definitely get it.

I don't think he is talking about the whole medic/healing class idea, it's more of the I can build a turret, upgrade it and then move said turret. I thought TF2 clone as soon as I saw this video but that doesn't mean it's any less fun. Now if you wanted blatant rip-off, you could go with Dante's Inferno but it looks like they have taken a few concepts from other games, merged them together, refined it and put a game show spin on it.
Smells like a good mix to me - hope it comes to PC!

I guess I can understand why it's so close to TF2. Valve never bothers updating TF2 on the 360 anyways so might as well prey on that with an updated and shinier version of the same game.
Nothing wrong with making a bit of money.

rar, definitely I can't deny it's running hard and strong off that TF2 vibe, the characters aren't nearly as lovable, but I still think it looks potentially really fun! My only worry is class balance is one thing, but then balancing all those upgradable skills, seems like it'd be pretty tough to nail perfectly out of the starting gate. rar, I'm hoping Uber is prepared to see how things are going in a couple weeks, once people have there hands on it, any weak spots are probably going to come to light pretty damn fast.

Well why exactly do you say "rar" in most of your posts? Is it a referance to something or is it supposed to mean something. I think thats what people aren't getting and I haven't seen you explain it anywhere.

I find the age gate stuff the websites are forced to use silly when this same content is on Youtube and often times stuff that's age gated is identical to commercials running on network TV.
That said, I'm getting more interested in this game. Could be fun if it gets a community behind it.

After watching the video, I'm happy to see its awesomely different. Not that TF2 isn't amazing in its own right, but this looks so cool too.

The Assassin class looks really good, i main Spy and Scout and that class looks like a combination of both =D
