I might just snag Sim City since some GENIUS at EA decided, "Hey guys, so instead of releasing a nice free update for this small revamp, let's charge for it as if it's a new game!" Some people...

How the hell is EA monopolizing gaming? I think you have to be profitable to be called a monopoly. Please stop spouting blind hatred, you ignorant pissant.

Yeah...I don't see how they're gonna sell many copies of Boggle or Scrabble when Scramble 2 and Words with Friends Free are both free and have more established user bases.

You gotta innovate and offer ad-heavy free versions of your games to make it on the iPhone. Come on EA, you're better than this (and where's my pocket-sized Dead Space rail shooter?).

Not really, not if the game is good. I'd gladly pay a couple bucks for an Add free version of the game as long as it's good. I bought Scrabble on the iPad for $10 and i have no regrets about it. I'd still pay that over a free Ad Heavy version.

I've downloaded several free Ad supported games and then upgraded to the paid version if the game was good.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Words with Friends has a free version full of ads, so people are more likely to download it and play than pay ~$5 for a version of Scrabble they haven't tried and no one they know has. I went and bought the full version of Words with Friends b/c I play with, like, 8 of my friends who have and I*knew* it was good enough to warrant the $3 price tag.

So, make a lite version with ads as a taste if you want to sell the full version.

EA has the right's to the NFL license, i hardly think that you can consider holding the rights to 1 major sport as monopolizing gaming. Unless MAdden is the only game you play, in which case, no one cares about you...not even EA.

Most people around here don't seem to acknowledge it, but companies change hats all the time. EA no longer is wearing the blackest hat, Activision seems to be doing that. All it takes for a saintly company with decades of awesome reputation to become the scum of the earth is an overhaul of the executive leadership.

All the (ex-) EA haters don't seem to remember the awesomeness of their "construction set" games in the 80's/90's. EA owned Origin during its heyday. EA had serious cred, then it got greedy. We can thank our lucky stars that the internet really wasn't big during that time, and they didn't take advantage of the technology and our goodwill and lock us into some kind of game-ownership ecosystem before turning to the dark side.

EA has become a very different company philosophy-wise since John Riccitello took over in '0...7? Anyway, the EA Partners is pretty clear evidence of that. Instead of trying to buy every little studio they can get their hands on, they're lending their resources and know-how to companies like Valve, id, and Epic to help them with their games.

How much did SimCity Deluxe drop from? I'm trying to decide if I should get this to help with the everlasting wait until EA stops being stupid and releases a proper successor to SimCity 4.
