Wow, I'm actually in before "BUT JUST HADOUKENS IS A TERRIBLE STRATEGY!"

But if everybody kicking my ass on xbl is to be believed, just keep shoryukening is an unbeatable strategy...

Don't know if your joking or not, but if your getting pwned by people shoryukens(read: the oldest trick in the book) you need a hell of a better strategy....or you you need to find another genre of gaming....

Ah I see. I've only played SF4 and have yet to have gotten SS4 so I can't really help you, but go look at some youtube vids. From what I've seen every character has a good strategy to use against the fireball and dragon punching douches of the internet. Have fun. :)

It's a damn shame a simple word called Practice is over looked now days. I remember 5 dollars in quarters ran out of my pocket as if I had a hole in it when I used to play Street Fighter 2 in the local arcade back in 93.

Just so I could be good enough with Ryu and Blanka and beat every one I wanted to challenge me that saturday. In my prime weekly I felt as if I was king for a day.

I approve.

1) "Hey that hour costs more than the whole game did!" Yes. So does every single fightstick on the market. If you're into SSF4, then you're probably WAY INTO it, many folks are very, very passionate about the game and money isn't as much of an issue when you like something that much. Sometimes just a little help can bring your game from mid-level to tournament quality. If you think $50 is a lot for an hour of training, you should see how much cash changes hands at "money matches" at the tournaments. You can earn back that $50 in 10 min.

2) Paying for lessons is old news for those in the FPS crowd. Good players make money, period. With or without a sponsor there is money if you are willing to wager on yourself at a tournament (money matches).

3) These lessons are primarily aimed at very passionate and very competitive players - not the average street fighter. These folks have already dropped 150+ on a fightstick, 40 for the game (and probably 40 for the "vanilla" SF4), so another 50 for some coaching isn't a big deal. They are like little Jedi constructing/modding their own fightsticks and wanting to train with Yoda.

What i'd love to see is one of their students knock them into the losers bracket at a tournament!

Yeah, it's pretty reasonable/amazing, actually. Although that's mostly in theory. I mean, Justin Wong has proven that he only focuses on top-tier match-ups; would he know the best way to help a Makoto player, or Sakura or something? I'm curious to see how this goes.

Serioulsy I never got these payed lesson things. For every game you can go on the Internet and get all the tips these pros will tell you. A pro telling you what to do won't chang anything.

I rented Street Fighter IV, then returned it within 2 hours after almost committing suicide via gun shot wound to the head after 1hr and 50m of that was spent trying to beat Seth on every difficulty.

My case is hopeless, I will keep my $50.

"With the SpoonMurderer training course, Sure You Can!"™

(Get it? Because 'Sure You Can' sounds like 'Shoryuken', a well known Street Fighter move...)

I give up.

Really, it's really not that bad, really. Really, when you think about it, you really could really just learn what the most effective techniques and opportunities are in an hour, and really just practice timing and execution on your own. Really, some people are just so clueless when it comes to fighting games, really, that really all they need is a little direction, and really they can just train muscle memory to carry that a long way, really.

Wow the negativity towards this is terrible. Shows the lack of respect for e-Sports in general amongst even the gaming populous.

I mean, I think $20/hour is more reasonable (that's what some Starcraft coaches charge), but it's not a way to scam people. Some people actually are so low in the skill range and have such a hard time overcoming mental barriers created when it comes to the pressure of trying to win or be a good player because there can be so much to learn, especially in a long-established game/genre, that it becomes overwhelming and a coach is just what they need to build confidence to improve. A lot of competitive gaming is of course your mentality. Sometimes you aren't even in the right mindset to be able to win or learn from your losses.

Also, if you're that into SFIV that you want to pay someone to help you improve faster, then I don't see the problem here.

@ben linus It's Justin Frickin' Wong! He's a legend! That's like getting an hour on the golf course with Tiger Woods for $50.

$50 an hour is in line with cheap local-teachers for every form of dance, music, or martial art I've ever tried. But for legends like Wong or (to a slightly lesser degree) Gootecks? That's an insane deal.

Ha! That's funny. Remind me again what's the benefit of becoming a god at SF? Oh yeah maybe one day you can offer $50 lesson over PSN and Live too. Pay them 40-50 to have them teach you how to yank a stick? Isnt everyone here an expert at THAT already?

This is stupid as hell. You can't train people while playing online games. You have to be there in person. If the trainee can't see the trainer enter commands on the controller to see how they're pulling off moves, it's not going to teach them anything.

It's just a way for these so called "pros" to rack up free wins because the trainee isn't able to get hits in because they're trying to figure out how the pro did the moves he did, and then the trainee loses by time-out because they took damage while the pro trainer demonstrated (and successfully landed) the move. The trainee ranks down, the "pro" ranks up.
