@gevenstaines Im more surprised by Link's cross bow training beating Twilight princess AND Metroid Prime 3. So I guess the 8 million or so that got it in the first year wasn't enough for the people that got it later on with link's crossbow training.

Nintendo is either going well that's it zelda is no more. Or they're thinking most people who own a wii have bad taste in games.

oh whatever. Why do people look at this stuff and get bent out of shape? Every time I look at the highest selling records in the US, I ever only have three albums on the top 50, max. Doesn't mean I'll stop listening to music. How people entertain themselves is their own business.

It seems like every time I'm at someone's house who isn't a gamer at all, they always have a wii and wii fit board stacked up next to the TV. I've asked a couple of them if they have any other games, and they just kind of give me a blank stare like they didn't know it was for anything other than working out.

Why do we consider Wii Fit/Plus or Sports Active a game? Are we that lazy of a society that the only way to get people to exercise is by calling a fitness program a game? Next up, Weight Watchers. It will be popular. It uses that Wii board that everyone bought but no one uses.

No surprise that Wii Play is number one, you're getting a free game with the controller.

Also WTF, my view of the world has just changed, who ever thought that sooo many people would buy CARNIVAL GAMES. I think nintendo also realise this shame. I never thought people would be that idiotic to not realise, maybe because every GAME had a giant poster of it and in one store there was about 2 rows of that game.

Lets see what other games are missing, SMG 2, Metroid Prime 3, also my minds being blown again! How did a rehashed minigame based on Twilight Princess do better in terms of sales compared to the blockbuster game it was based on!!

I'd love to go back to some of those "Who will win this gen" discussions and pull out a few nice quotes, but it'd be like rubbing a salt lick into a head wound of those fanboys who couldn't see the light. By this time, we all know a few things that many of us were saying all along:

1 - Wii can't hang with the other two systems in terms of gaming power
2 - Wii still trumps the other systems because of price, mass appeal, and marketing
3 - PS3 was smart to include BluRay, making it the de facto HD standard, but the initial price point killed it

Honestly, what has surprised me most is MS's willingness to stick with the 360 this long. I had predicted that we would see a new system by Holidays 2010, and that's not happening unless they get sneaky.

What this should go to show all those wannabe businesspeople out there is that targeting the most hardcore of your market isn't necessarily the best business strategy.

I disagree. Microsoft and the 360 won in terms of really high quality 3rd party games, tons of them, and Xbox Live. But Sony and the PS3 has caught up with them the last year too.

This list proves what a gimmick the motion controls were. Out of all those games I have Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros Wii, which don't rely on motion controls at all. I am really looking forward to Kirby's Epic Yarn next.

@GordoJones88

I definitely don't think Wii is the best solo system. I have a 360, which probably gets more play time nowadays, even though I boot up the Wii at least a few hours a week.

But in terms of the business of selling consoles, Nintendo has won big. Plus, Ninty systems have always been dominated by 1st party releases, so this is no big surprise.

As for motion controls, I have two responses. 1 - when they are done right, motion adds to a game. Just look at RE4: Wii Edition, which took a great game and made it blow-your-head-off-with-a-shotgun amazing. Just like rumble and other game enhancements, when done wrong, motion controls suck. 2. If the market didn't want motion control, we wouldn't have both of Nintendo's competitors trying to bring it to their consoles. The fact that both MS and Sony feel an immediate need to have motion at market proves to me just how successful it is.

I second everyone going out and buying Sin & Punishment Wii, not because of some "hardcore games MUST sell bajillions" ideal, but because it's a kickass game.

@(Unverified) In reality all consoles are on the same playing field right now.
The wii was a massive success, just way too successful which left a giant gaping hole for 2 years with no games for us to play.

Xbox 360 has just had the same pace from launch, with few exclusives every year not rushing in like the wii.

PS3 had a massive slow start, mainly because of the launch chaos that happened, unfortunately the systems couldn't launch simultaneously. Now that Sony got their act together at the end of 2008, and bought their a game for both 2009 and 2010.

So if we look at in terms now, we see the most performing PS3 at first (don't want to stir up fanboys here) then the Xbox 360 because they've stayed steady and last being wii because of hardly anything.

now if we take it from high to middle is wii, from middle to middle is Xbox and from low to middle is PS3. So actually everything has a level playing field in terms of where they are. And now is where the true test actually begins.

Am I the only one who has never, ever even heard of 'Game Party' (number 5 on the third-party list)? We've all bitched and moaned about a lot of these minigame-based titles selling bajillions, but at least most of us have heard of Carnival Games, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, EA Sports Active, etc. But 'Game Party'? I'm lost ...

Agreed with you there, this so-called-wii needs to change. I bet you that if the wii was a HD console, we wouldn't see this junk like Carnival Games and Game party.

Of course there would be just dance :D, I don't see why dancing games are called casual titles, I remember way before that dance games were actually core titles to of course the dancing fan base (DDR anyone). Now everything has to have guns, or blood or not cartoony. Some people actually said kirby is a casual game.
