Wasn't too fond of this game.
I haven't played a madden game for a couple years and it really doesn't seem like much has changed

I'm actually always at least a year behind when I play Madden. The prices of old ones plummet when the new ones comes out.

Yea I tend to pick up the older versions of madden when the new rendition comes out. I'm a big football fan but I can't go for madden punching me in the wallet every year.

I tend to pick up the current year's one if I can (A) get it at a discount, (B) am excited about the roster of my chosen team, and (C) see an upgrade or two I'm interested in, even if small. (A) - $20 credit at Amazon, (B) - The Ravens, (C) the accessibility features.

So I'm getting this one - I don't play online very much if at all, but really enjoy being able to enjoy the game Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (early in the season), Friday and Saturday (when I"m not watching college ball...).

I tried to go online plenty of times, but since we got the game early, I couldn't test any online stuff, much to my chagrin.

I'm waiting for Mafia II and K&L2!

@MLC i agree. i've never been a big Madden fan but my brother is a die hard. he has bought every one since 2002 when our family got our first system, a GameCube. so i have at least watched or played a few games of Madden every year and i must say 11 is the biggest improvement in a very long time.

When I played the demo, I found the Strategy pad to be counter-intuitive. I wish player/positional/defensive shifts were changed back to the way it was done in the last generation Maddens. That was a really fluid system with almost no lag or latency. It eventually became second-nature to me, to the point where I could read an offense and shift all 11 players within a second or two. Unfortunately, the Strategy Pad is a step back, but EA did announce that they are bringing back last year's audible and shifting back via an update in the near future.

@Padilla7921 I agree with the strategy pad. It takes more button inputs and isn't as intuitive or fast as previous iterations of the game. The demo also didn't really showcase the Gameplay mode very well other than that it feels like a new Ask Madden. EA won't be getting my money for this game, but I still may pick up NCAA and NHL.

NCAA 11 is probably the worst NCAA rendition I've played in a decade. Madden is at the top of its game right now and the NCAA franchise is at the bottom, unfortunately.

Good review from a mainstream gaming site, plenty in depth. I am passing on Madden this year because NCAA really is a superior game... But, I think that I want to come out and defend Game Planning and Game Flow. Gameflow speeds up the game, which is great, and gameplanning provides a lot of off the field realism that would be great if properly added. It would be a treat to work out a real game plan strategy and match up against somebody else's game plan, but as it is now, it's simply a (far more) intelligent "ask madden."

The appropriateness of plays is usually pretty good in game planning, and it can add a lot to the dynasty experience.

ANother big mode is the online team play, which might not be as good as NHL or NBA Live/Elite, but is still something that catches a lot of folks. I think that it'll be much more fun to play 3 on 3 with a group of friends than 3 on 3 against strangers.

However, neither are enough to warrant a purchase from me. Madden team needs to spend time on the career modes: Franchise mode, Online Franchise, and the superstar mode need to be drastically overhauled. THe fact that Franchise mode still pales in comparison to what it was _five years ago_ is a shame, and Online Franchise last year was a shell of a mode that they just put 0 work into this year. I was glad they were honest and upfront, admitting that nothing has been done to Online Franchise, but it is a huge disapointment to see two premier modes go untouched.

NCAA 11 isn't a superior game, it's just that NCAA 11 finally got the overhauls that Madden has enjoyed after two years so it appears this way. But I personally prefer NCAA.

Surprised people are digging NCAA so much this year. The online dynasty stuff is awesome, but the gameplay in that game is HORRIBLE this year. It's like you're playing in super duper fastforward mode. It takes all the player control out of it.

The Franchise mode is passible but mediocre but the online franchise is a JOKE. I'd take the mediocre franchise mode of the single player if they'd just port it directly to the multiplayer. Why make is so different? I actually have time to properly scout and draft and deal with salary caps in franchise mode.
Oh and fight for the fumble has to go. I mean it's just dumb as you loose 90% of the time to the CPU.

For Superstar mode, maybe they should let you work towards ever bigger contracts!! You start at a lowly 500k a year... and you have to work hard to keep from getting traded, or worse, dropped... and having to somehow get onto a team through some "training camp" mini-games....

Oh, and to top it off, you could have "scout reports" that show you the skill levels at each team... so if you're having trouble making it on a team stacked at the position, you could go to a team that has just about nobody and try out there... kind of like a difficulty setting!

...man, I just had so much innovation I coulda been a contender... if not for the licensing...

That just goes to show you how often major media outlets actually review sports games and instead assign a number based on public opinion. I for one think most review sites haven't played more than a total of 5 minutes for a Madden review since 2006. Though until 2011 I'd have to agree with that choice.

Check out Gamespot's and IGN's hilariously out of touch reviews, clearly they didn't actually boot the game up as they make some fairly obvious false accusations.

How is it that so few people know that this 'new audible' system has been in the game for years now, and in fact is slower in the new setup?

You're the second or third large site I've seen that has completely missed that.

For at least two are three years, if you hit the audible button, and right stick down, it was run; right stick up, quick pass; right stick right, deep pass; right stick left, PA pass.

It's not a new feature at all, and saying it is pretty much completely discredits your comparisons to past games.

@Crx1990 Yes, the METHOD of selecting plays via this feature has changed to the d-pad, but the feature is identical to past versions. This and other sites have been acting like it was never possible.

Also, while on the subject of the reviewer not knowing about previous games, I thought the plan was to get a Madden expert to review it this year.

@jhoff80 I talked to Dave about this. He said that though the feature may have been present before, it's both presented and controlled differently. I'd say "completely discredits your comparisons to past games" is quite a stretch, but you're of course entitled to believe what you like.

It makes it easier for the casual gamer. For the player that doesn't know a nickle package from a dime. (that's what she said)

It goes along the lines of their slogan "Faster Deeper Harder", I mean "Quicker Simpler Deeper" or something like that. Either way..........That's what she said!

@Dave Hinkle Not saying you don't address it. The review just reads like you didn't dive in and tweak your game plan at all. In my opinion, it takes 5 games to fully tweak your game plan until GameFlow truly shines on the offensive end. I will admit the defensive side of GameFlow doesn't work that well because it is based on formations and not situations.

You ever played Madden right after playing a game of NCAA? NCAA is still set up where every player can change 90 degrees on a dime, you'll feel like you're slogging through mud when you try that in Madden because it does have pretty realistic physics, so I'm not really sure where you were going with that...

Now I've been playing madden since the Genesis days and have played up until 2008. If you ask me, GameFlow sounds awfully like Ask Madden. Is AM even in the game? If it isn't, well, another rehash billed as brand new.

I'm just not fond of games that run on a yearly dev cycle. It gives little incentive to put 2-3 years worth of madden titles into one and increases desire to string out features over 4-5 years. A perfect example of this done by another company happens with the "Smackdown vs. Raw" series by THQ. The series was playstation only and THQ had to be creative and make different looking games for other consoles. Ever since the series went multi-plat, THQ used the Madden formula and it sucks.

this is the most updated version of madden in years i wont even be able to play madden 2010 after playing 11 for a day, the dline and oline battles are incredible the gap control for the defensive tackles is great the big guys actually break down and sit in the hole, the running game is outstanding compared to last year still has that problem of running on the spot when you get stuck behind your oline but its alot easier to get out of it with the responsive controls of the left stick and the overall physics of the game overshadow any sports game every created it feels like your fighting for every inch when your in control of the player, one addition for next year though that would be great would be more realistic gang tackles if EA is going through all this hard work to make the offensive side of the ball easier then why not help out the d as well i wanna see lights out tackling one guy low one guy high devestating hits

I think 4 stars is a wee bit generous. Not unlike last year, playing passing defense is incredibly frustrating. The defenders themselves need to be much much more intelligent. You can play with the sliders all you want to make a more realistic game as far as the score goes, but even then your still going to have defenders watching recievers make catches and taking silly angles towards the ball carrier and so forth. Madden needs to decide if it wants to be a simulation game, or an arcade game. In my opinion it's neither.
