Power Gig throws fake guitars into volcano, dooms mankind
39
Hey, Seven45 Studios? We need to have some words about your recent viral advertisement for Power Gig: Rise of the SixString, which is posted just after the jump. Provided the footage therein is real -- and in this day and age of fancy-schmancy video editing software, who really knows -- then we're terrified for the future of Iceland. After all, we think we can all agree that what the April eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull were missing were ballistic, Skittle-colored shards of molten plastic.
Check out the edgy (and quite possibly felonious) ad just past the jump.

The time and money spent on advertising this game are easily tripling the effort spent on making it enjoyable. Rock Revolution has some competition for the $5 and under bin at Gamestop

I'm all for a dig at Guitar Hero nowdays, but this does just smack of desperation.
Although, it probably will generate some buzz for them and possibly even make people forget about that ridiculous air drum-kit for a few weeks.

So they are advertising their game by polluting in a volcano? That doesn't exactly get me interested in buying the game.

Polluting a volcano?
It's magma. It's going to burn the controllers, causing to harm to itself or anything else. It just burns and melts. Burns and melts.

@LiqwidZero Either way, plastic should be recycled not melted in a volcano. As a result of this egregious offense to Mother Earth, I'm officially boycotting this game. Of course, it's not a big sacrifice on my part boycotting a game I had no intention of buying. I think at this point too many people have too much money invested in Rock Band DLC to just drop that franchise for a new one.

Too bad the Rise of the Six String guitars are about as real as those plastic ones they are dumping. Plastic and guitar strings isn't going to work out well for them. Can't wait to see them getting sued to hell when their product snaps in half due to string tension after someone replaces the super super light gauge strings that come installed with normal strings. I'll be laughing my ass off. Now, that being said, the music game genre really doesn't need another entry.

This just screams fake to me...
Like they took 2 films and combined them, one of them throwing a bunch of guitars out of a plane and one of them flying over a volcano?
Dumb marketing hoping that people will remember the game because of the fuss this will cause...

Ok, this ad just seems sad. So far I've see little to no real game play footage and every ad is just douchey hipsters in unrealistic situations (like the fake living room, or this.) And honestly, their real competition isn't Guitar Hero fake guitars but Rock Band's product. They need to be focusing on that but really there's probably no real competition. Any how we'll see but I almost feel sorry for these guys. It's like bailing out a sinking ship with a hat with a hole in it.

@ccc But here's the thing. Rockband is doing the exact same thing (real guitars) as well as real keyboards. Also, they are implementing it on the established framework of the Rock Band Network where artists can contribute their on tracks and allows you to carry over years worth of tracks. As well the controllers (from all reports) are far superior to those provided by Powergig. So far all I've seen are gimicks and interviews with people who seem to be very... disapointed in a product they haven't even launched yet (the interview with the one designer did more damage to product then any hipster d-bags in fake living rooms ever could do.)
Now, I don't know if it will be good or bad. It's near impossible to tell as all that I've seen is animatics and no actual game play footage. If it's done well it could be amazing but they aren't competing with Guitar Hero and their plastic guitars, they are competing with Rock Band and their actual Gibsons and their keyboards, and their drum sets and their three part harmonies. They need to wow me not try to ingratiate me with "edgy" advertising that looks more like a Mountain Dew ad then anything else.

*Sigh* - I am a big Guitar Hero fan, and maybe it's just me, but this really doesn't win me over to wanting to play Power Gig. Maybe instead of telling me the franchise I love so much is dumb, you should show me some wicked gameplay and win me over that way.
If I want to play a real guitar... I'll play a real guitar. And, If I want to play a music video game where I can just enjoy myself and not stress out having to spend so much time learning a song... I'll play Guitar Hero.

With pro mode, this game no reason for existing anyway. No amount of dumb ads (which will hopefully get them fined/sued out of existance) can change that. As stated, I have yet to see a single screenshot of gameply, but a WHOLE lot of running off at the mouth. Kid Rock, Eric Clapton, and Dave Matthews are all morons.

at several thousand degrees C i highly doubt throwing plastic guitars in the volcano actually hurt it any. at those temperatures you wont ever get the poisonous gases that plastic releases

I completely agree with this, I'm sure more pollutants are released *making* these.
Can't please anyone these days...I mean FLYING over one of those is dangerous enough......heat could cause engine failure, raw sulfuric acid could do just about anything...and people cry that a few plastic guitars is gonna ruin the earth.
