PlayStation Move unboxed, demo disc detailed
96
Joystiq tipster Phil received a promotional PlayStation Move kit, which included two Move controllers, a PlayStation Eye camera and a demo disc. The disc features an interface inspired by the "Now Playing" section of the XMB, allowing you to quickly peruse its contents. Included on the disc are demos for Sports Champions, Start the Party, Kung Fu Rider, TV Superstars, The Shoot, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Beat Sketcher, and Tumble -- all games demoed at E3 earlier this year.
Interestingly, it appears that the demos (at least on this promotional disc) cannot be launched directly from the disc; you must install each demo to your PS3 hard drive. According to our tipster, each demo is about 1-2 GB in size, meaning you'll need at least 8GB of free space if you want to play everything off the disc at once.
In addition to the demos, the disc includes an installable "Setup Guide," which may be the most enjoyable part of the entire collection. It includes some helpful tips, like "don't use the camera upside-down" and "don't smack people around you." Truly, advice for winners.

I was going to buy a Move..unfortunately the PSEyes USB cable is WAY too short (6 feet). My PS3 is about 25 feet away from my TV (which is wall mounted). I have absolutely no cables showing, and planned on having a USB 30' extension wired in-wall...however that solution didn't work because the speed of the extension isn't fast enought and picks up movement too slow.
Sony should have made the Eye wireless, or given it a longer cable.

My kitchen? What the hell is that supposed to mean. My TV is mounted on a wall, and all my AV equipment is in a closet about 25 feet away from it (because the PS3 is so god damn loud!).
And Jacksy, I'm not going to move my PS3 to the living room, while having another 25 foot HDMI cable running to the receiver, just to play Killzone or LBP2 with a motion controller.

I'm trying to, but I can't even imagine a room as big as you're describing. Do you live in a cathedral?
Anyway. Maybe it's just my habits from when I was a kid. But I have to be pretty close to a TV in order to play a game. Anymore my eyes wont let me be anywhere else. About 5 feet max. The size or definition of the screen really doesn't matter either. At 25 feet, could anyone read the font on any RPG? Just doesn't add up to me.

USB has a limit of 5 meters... about 15 feet max. for low speed devices. A high speed device (what I assume the eyetoy is) limits to 3 meters. If you want to run a 25 foot cable with reasonable response rate you will need to put a repeater in the middle (at least one, maybe 2) or to get crafty you can try doing the USB over Cat5 or something to that effect but I've no experience with it so can't speak to the efficacy.
Or get an active extension USB they can be pricey but worth a try.

Hope that helps you a bit. I ran into a similar problem but ended up moving my components to under the TV

@D3m0sthenes It's 25 feet away if I want to hide the cable. There's a closet where the AV equipment is, the left side of the wall (probably about 15 feet), and the center wall where the TV is.
Nobody runs their cables in a direct line, you have to snake them around your house.

Dude, do you really think I sit 25 feet away from my TV? I'm about 8 feet away from it (it's a 55"). I said MY PS3 is 25 feet away from it. Not my couch.
And I thought my reading comprehension was bad.

i didn't say for you to move anything :P and i in no way mean this in a rude way but i really dont care if you dont want to play those games lol just saying youre in the minority and pretty much seems like there's really nothing you can do about it, with your 'situation' and all.

Well apparently I'm one of the few others in your situation. I spent a nice chunk of change rewiring all my stuff to go to a media closet and Move and Kinect aren't looking like they are going to work with that setup. I'm not sure how I am going to handle it now. I could have all my consoles sitting under the TV, but then it will require 2 more HDMI runs(PS3/360 and Component+Audio(for Wii) to make that setup feasible.

@mywhitenoise from how far away do you play ? You need to be less than 10 feet away, afaik from the pseye with the move controller..
The ps eye doesnt have to sit under or over your tv you can sit it somewhere in between if you wanted, but yes the ps3 eye is very fast rate they have hacked it to run on windows and Linux and to run multi projection surfaces (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/multi-touch-surface-PC-DIY,7484.html) It practically saturates the usb 2.0 bus with the rate at which it sends data, its probably 1 of the main reasons why its so accurate.
your ps3 is noisy ? .. I would guess you must have an original 60gb or 1 of the original sets.. Open it up and clean out around the fan get an air canister and clean out the fan holes, you probably have dust build up which you ain't aware of hence why its running noisy..
As for the cabling issue, I have a similar sort of issue.. I have a projector connected at one end of the room and a long hdmi cable feeding the ps3 to it, but the ps3 is still pretty close to it... I have to somehow get the ps3 eye to the projection wall and sort out a way for it to see me .. I obviously cant put it above the projection as it would be the ceiling, but it starts about half way up the wall, so I can place it below.. Its doable and I have already sort of sorted out a solution for it..

What does distance you are from the TV have to do with anything? Whether he's standing 1ft in front of the TV or 100ft from the TV is completely irrelevant to what he's talking about.
That said, blaming his setup issue on Sony is silly since it's obviously not a typical gameroom setup (though I have the same setup in my living room as well).
mywhitenoise, there is a 33ft USB repeater cable at monoprice that I use with my Hauppauge HD PVR 1212 that works *decently* (though lots of other people have said works great). You might consider giving that a shot.

I've had 5 different PS3s. 2 launch units (took the first 2 back because of the fan issue). 2 Limited Edition MGS PS3s (took 1 back because of the fan noise, kept the other...although still loud). 1 new 120GB slim...which is louder than the MGS 40GB!

@Vcize I bought that exact repeater cable (as I mentioned earlier). It's pretty crappy with the PSEye. It tracks movements very slowly, makes everything look choppy, and sometimes it cuts out signals all together.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze yeah sorcery definitely does look temptingly good. i think they can pull it off with the right developers. Its new territory for SONY, but they have great first party developers to pull something amazing off if they make something fresh.

I find it hilarious that the screen for the demos of Move games works better than the actual Kinect interface.

I'm sorry, but how is it better? I seriously just don't understand.
Besides how ridiculous it is that you have to install these demos, the kinect menu works great. (I've used it).
Also, the voice commands work wonderfully as well. I heard 10 different people try out the voice commands, and they worked EVERY time.

You should just wait another week and wait for some awesome announcements from Sony at Games Com, I think PS3 Slim with bigger hard drives are coming as well as some really nice bundles.
I have noticed that few companies such as Walmart and Kmart have been clearing inventory of PS3 with some good deals, Kmart has PS3 250 GB for $299. I may have to upgrade my PS3 if some really nice Move bundle shows up.
