Halo: Reach update: Forge, filters and statues
44
Bungie dropped its Weekly Update on Halo: Reach a little early this week, which is probably a good thing because there's a lot to take in. First and foremost, the update lists nearly every item available in Forge -- including their cost -- allowing budding map designers a chance to start their planning phase a little early. There's also a bunch of new graphical filters to choose from, including the nifty "Pen & Ink" filter seen above.
If that's not enough for you, the update also details the return of Race mode (now with landmines!), assassination animations (there are over 40 in Reach) and details how you can win one of the Noble Team statues displayed at E3. Check out a behind the scenes video on the creation of said statues after the break.

@Iron Man Bungie is top notch and there's no denying that, I'm just glad they are now multiplatform so that others may experience their work even if they don't like the Halo universe.

Exclusivity makes better games in my opinion. No need to focus on developing for two platforms(that aren't even similar in architecture).
I will be sad to see Bungie go that way with the next game. Halo is my drug, and I'll be betting the first multiplatform game won't be as special or have as good of quality.

I've still got my fingers crossed that they'll add AI Covenant that you can place in Forge to make your own mini levels. Please?

Will it seems they've put more development effort into creating filters (which are completely useless, if you want a filter then use a filter in a video editing software, but it would still be useless) instead of trying to create better content.
How does that go at the conference rooms?
"Should we spend our development time to create a lag-free environment? Should we add more items into the Forge? Should we make the Forge bigger?"
Bob: "NO! We need black and white filters!"

Eh, I gotta agree. Back in Halo 3, filters were just sorta cool little things you'd toy with for a bit, but never actually keep in the final cut of whatever crazy awesome map you just made.
The AI idea sounds like a good one. Like, have a few jackal snipers or a hunter pop out of where ever you decided to hide the energy sword or rocket launcher.

These aren't filters for the videos you record, they're filters for the maps you make. IE I create a map in Forge world and give it a purple hue. Now when you join a game and play on that map you see a purple hue.
At least that's how I understand it.

Bungie HAS added items to Forge and made it bigger and better in so many ways, adding these filters is just a part of that. If you've seen any of the recent info on Forge World and Forge 2.0, I don't know how you can say they aren't putting effort into "creating better content."

With the amount of tech that they HAVE added to both Forge (WORLD) & The Reach game in general compared to H3, complaining about ONE thing you don't see the point in is freaking laughable.... They are obviously not skimping on developement time on this project in any way shape or form. Good lord, people will seriously bitch about anything.

Not anything. There's not much to bitch about in Team Fortress 2. In fact, I can't think of anything. Except stupid teammates.

It sounds like you've never played Tribes 2, or any PC game for that matter.

Hard to imagine that this will be Bungie's last go at the Halo franchise. You can definitely tell it's their baby and want to go out with a huge bang. I didn't play around in Forge in Halo 3 too much but holy hell does Forge World sound like a great time killer.

Lovely. The sense of scale from those statues (Spartan vs. Joe Schmoe) is great.

wait so can you play with those filters on or is that just for watching videos you already created? might be a stupid question.

I wonder if the giant rock they stand in front of comes with one of them, or if it's separate.

Aw, Landmines. They were the best, most fun item in the Halo 3 beta, but due to all the babies, Bungie removed all traces of the landmines from their levels. Damn shame too.
Hopefully, Bungie will bring the landmines in back in full force. Nothin stops a runaway Warthog from running you down then a well timed land mine throw!
Maybe Bungie will get clever and release a second type of mine that hovers in the air, so we have another defense against Ghosts and other air vehicles.
