Man, I wish they just made a FireFireRed with 3D battle animations. Guess I'm old school, but I'm not really feeling all of the new Pokemon...

@Appleman yes! I completely agree with you anything past 151 is gay. I might allow silver and gold though... maybe... Anyway all I want is the blue and red but done up nicely not all these new shitty pokemon.

No man, plenty of pokemon above the 151st will mate with pokemon of the opposite gender.

Im sorry, but Kanto is such a boring region. Johto and Sinnoh have much better layouts (And Hoenn would too, except for those damn water routes)

I'd actually buy fire red again if it was made the same way this game is. After the adventure is over, you should be able to get the old school pokemon in too so we'll see how they look eventually. Kinda looking forward to it.

You're too old school?!

I've never even seen those pokemon in my life!

Last time I played I had the Gameboy color Red version, and THAT is one of the best games ever.....

until I grew up that is.

@Ashkental I keep seeing this kind of comment and it confuses me since it's been mentioned on this very site a few times... You haven't seen them before because all the Pokemon in Black and White are new.

Mostly this is exciting because of a the battle themes, which are pretty good. Better than Gen IV's, at any rate. Although the sound is a bit reminiscent of Gen IV. A bit more...techno-ish, it sounds like.

Decent animation and swishy-moving characters are a nice addition. Really adds a lot of personality. Unfortunately, it seems the problem of 10 second turns may persist even with animation off and text set to the fastest. Dragon Warrior Monsters solved that with text so fast you only ever bothered to read the damage number. I'm still a bit disappointed that after 15 years the pokemon still cannot make physical contact.

Wow, liking the constantly moving mons! But the background still sucks pokenuts...it looks like they got the color fade paint bucket from photo shop and put animation over it...and this game looks like it would make good use of 3d...why aren't they waiting till the new ds???

(btw...has celebi been downloadable yet?)

I certainly hope they have an option to speed up all the battle animations. I always feel like 70% of my play time is wasted watching stuff I've seen over and over again.

You can turn off animations entirely in the other games, so I don't think this will be any different.

As glad as I am for new animations (and animations in general) the gameplay feels a lot slower :(.
I hope theres an option to speed up the animations, because I still want to see them, I just don't want to wait around for them XD..
Yeah they're only 3-5 secs long, but when you have 250+ battles in a game, that's a lot of time.

@Special Agent Steve

There probably shown at medium speed in that clip, just like other games, you can speed up or turn animations off completely if you want. That said, whats a few extra seconds per battle in a game that can get up to 100 hours of game play anyway.

@jph89 After playing a version of the game thats hacked where EVERYTHING is 2x speed, and stuff like the pokecenter delay is taken out, you really realize how much time you waste doing "nothing"

Maybe you don't, but I certainly care about my time, as I have very little of it to dedicate to video games.

To be honest, I would be fine with the 151 in a region other than Kanto, but I feel like the barrier of entry (for me at least) is too high with the ridiculously large amount of superfluous pokemon that the series has generated over the years while "trying" to keep it fresh. New region, new innovations, fine, but make them REAL innovations and not a bunch of renamed Pokemon...

I'm trying to think hard of a game series that has made less progress over the course of 12 years than Pokemon has, but I'm drawing a blank.

I enjoyed the first generation, the second generation was decent and I managed to get through, but I couldn't get more than a few hours into the first GBA games because it felt so archaic.

Then the other day I toyed around with my friend's DS and found that the games still haven't evolved.

It's a nice little concept but it can't sustain dozens of re-releases.

@yesnomaybeidontknow Each Final Fantasy game has had changes to the battle system, and later the job systems, etc. Pokemon has just re-hashed the exact same concepts, creating new playable characters, sure, but with the same basic gameplay. It's rock/paper/scissors x 12 or so. Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13 all had different stories, gameplay, and parts of the battle system were completely different. Materia, Drawing, Abilities, Sphere Grids, etc. all make you sort of re-learn how to play the game and change your strategies and gameplay styles.

And, of course, the FF storylines are far more epic, in my opinion, than "I wanna be the bestest! I'mma train mah pet guys and go beat the bestest!" which is really about as "interesting" as the Pokemon story gets.

Unless you were referring to the silly FF spinoffs (Crystal Chronicals and the like) they've done. I haven't really been a fan of any of those, and would gladly throw them in the same category as Pokemon.

I consider every pokemon game equally awesome. IMO, no generation stands above any other. At the end of the day, you only need to like 6 out of what, 500+ pokemon to enjoy the game.
