@Cleric I really don't see how they can go wrong, regardless of the IP, if they take what they learned with Fallout 3 and run with it. That game had great pacing, told the story well, had a fairly rich background for the world, and decent combat.

I'm pretty excited! Was just wondering the other day when we'd start hearing about the next ES.

i wouldn´t mind to see another game from bethesda that is not elder scrolls, as a mater of fact I´ll love to see a game like alpha protocol but created by bethesda, in other words a good espionage rpg game.

@Miami13 no, especially since their last game was Fallout 3. My guess is they are alternating between the TES and Fallout. Its TES's turn now, and its been almost 5 years since the last one.

This next game is going to be TES V, mark my words.

Words cannot express... my anticipation. Halo Reach?? pshh... What Halo Reach?

@Fermie Prime

I never got all the way through Oblivion (only finished the assassin missions), but if they can fix the scaled leveling and use something like the one in Fallout 3, I'm all in.

I always say I'm going to get back to Oblivion but frankly, I don't know how I'm going to find the time. ='(

@Rollins You're not alone! I wrote an incredibly long piece for Battle Reports about why Oblivion was better than Fallout 3, but the short version is: Deeper combat, more backstory, and a much prettier world. My hopes are raised by the fact that this is almost certainly not Fallout 4. Almost certainly...

I don't think it's time for them to use a new engine, there's nothing really wrong with the current one. The graphics are fine, usually a new engine brings drastic upgrades to the graphics and I don't think PS3 or 360 could handle it.

I'm not worried about the graphics. I'm worried about reliability, primarily. I'm also concerned by the fact that something in the "feel" of both Oblivion and Fallout 3 made them feel somehow old to me, but that might have just been the weird Bethesda character faces and animations affecting my perceptions.

Hopefully whatever other project they're working on is using id's engine, or something altogether different.

Way to use the same sub-par engine yet again Bethesda.

It passed for Oblivion... but Fallout... and now another new game? You're just getting more than lazy at this point.

For a high level studio, your engine is OUTDATED! Content only takes a game so far anymore...

@DRYICE I agree much soooooo.

When I heard New Vegas was running the same, I considered actually not buying it.

Could you imagine if Bungie realeased 4 games that looked the same then used the same on Reach...

@Haelie

Yeah... because massive open world with tons of varied enemy models, flaura and fauna, daytime effects, and massively superior AI is the same as small corridors, like 10 enemy models, and limited AI (you see a zombie, you know exactly how it'll react). It's an entirely different beast, FPS games will ALWAYS look better than open world RPGs. It's so much easier to build an engine when you know whats going to be on the screen all the time and can control it. Oblivion can have grass, a train of mobs, changing twilight, you dropping a billion items, your character (or not your character), magic effects, etc. Resources have to be monitored more with open world otherwise you'll have falling framerates in no time.

Anyways, most companies just license an engine. They actually make their own. Hell, Dynasty Warriors has used the same engine tweaked since Dynasty Warriors 2 (put out in 2000). Halo has been running on the same (but improved on) engine since the first Halo. Why fix something that isn't broken?

@Punkrawk Bbob; All excellent points mate, and very true, but it still doesn't change the fact that it looks a bajillion times better ... or that Traceur use Valve games as an example.

It is broken. It was just barely passable during the Oblivion era. For their size and success they've beaten this puppy to a bloody pulp (This will be 4 new games later!). It's time we get a little improvement from our overpriced games.

Bethesda did not make the game engine they've used since Morrowind.
And Halo 3 does not use the same engine from the first Halo.

You don't just start over from scratch, ditching all your knowledge base and code libraries, for a new framework that only offers minor graphic improvements with unknown side effects. Especially not when you make RPGs and your previous games are unmatched in features and complexity. Stop arguing about things you can't control and don't really have any knowledge about.
