So, I tried to access Everyday Shooter the other day, which I downloaded when I first got my PS3 two years ago, and I got this message. I bought the game two years ago and I am getting this message now. Why is that? I have never purchased Playstation Plus, so why is my game expired?

Did you get it for free during a promotion? I know that a couple of the games I got for free had a warning that if they were ever deleted, they couldn't be downloaded again unless they were paid for.

I got the free copy of Flow on valentines day. and about a month ago I bought the dlc for it. Sadly the dlc didn't work with the game, and I thought it might just be a bug or something. So I deleted Flow not knowing I wouldn't be able to download it again...

Now I'm waiting for it to go on sale again, or be made available through PS+.

The lesson here is don't mess around with things that are free!

Apparently, if you got lucky, you could've asked Sony about it and they would mail you a new code that lets you use the DLC with it.

if you download limited time free content from XBL, you can re-download the full version at any time. it isn't a one-time thing like PSN. i was upset when i formatted my PS3 and was unable to re-download flow. i had only played it an entire 5 mins.

+1 for XBL

(examples of limited time free XBL content that can be re-downloaded:
undertow
carcassonne)

@mywhitenoise Really its a rip off? I've had Live for 2 years and won't be renewing and with in those 2 years I've had 0 games from them. I've only had PSN for a couple of months and they've given me at 6 games to play that I didn't have, so tell me again why its a rip off?

What the hell does Live have ANYTHING to do with PS+?
PSN already offers free online play, free demos, free interaction with your friends...all that Plus is, is a glorified coupon club. You're paying $50 to rent games that are over a year old.

I'm sorry, but I'd rather pay full price for the DLC and games I want, WHEN I want, rather than paying $50 to hope and wait for content that I want, just to get a $2 discount on DLC, or a free game once a month (and only have access to it until my membership expires).

They're completely different services, in a nutshell:

PS+ allows discounts on purchases from the Playstation Store and you get free game and theme downloads, determined by Sony each month. The games disappear when you are unsubscribed to the service.

Live is compulsory to play online multiplayer on the Xbox, offers cross-game chat of up to 8 people, and weekly deals/discounts on DLC determined by Microsoft.

They both do a lot more, but those are the main differences.

Cause I felt it was something awful. It's like they're not testing the software they release. I've been reading complaints about constant firmware updates at Ars and it seems to me like Sony is seriously lacking in the QA department. I really doubt those PS1 games are really there for free after your subscription expires. Here comes another 100mb patch.

I'm the exact same way. I never would have bought - or even CONSIDERED buying - Critter Crunch, but after getting it with PS+, I now know that I would have missed out on a GREAT game! That's the exact reason I'm really happy with PS+, it's for the stuff I would normally be missing out on (and the discounts, I love those discounts).

PlayStation Plus is like a rental service for $50 a year but you have no choice what games they let you rent. They should at least add features to the PSN like Cross Game Chat or something more useful.

They did add cross game chat, as well as automatic updates, so I fail to see your point. Plus isn't a bad deal at all. I got 15 months of it for $50, which means by the end of those 15 months, I should have gotten 60 games in addition to other content. $50 a year for a ton of games that I haven't bought yet is great, and I feel a lot better about that than when I pay $50 a year for xbox live so that I can deal with the same lag.

@Joanna D In some countries the variations of spelling in license can be with an s. In some of the afrikaas nations license is spelled lisensia for example.

No idea why they felt the need to put it there, but you never know, there's probably someone out there who spells it with an S who's bound to ask "What's a license?"

First PSN releases free while Xbox Live remains on top but is 50 bucks a year. Now Sony decides to follow what Microsoft did & added on a $50 subcription model & thought by making it optional to players, they would beat MS & Xbox Live. But that just doesn't cut it. With little details like this hidden between the lines, PSN will always remain one step behind Xbox Live. I know it may sound stupid but Sony needs to make this subcription mandatory if they really want to make a profit. & if PSN users really want an experience that not only competes with Xbox Live but may surpass it, then they would agree. PSN has more subscribers than Xbox Live just by it being free. I'm sure the numbers would drop if it were mandatory but if Sony really want to give their players the best online experience on a console then that's the way to do it.

They don't need to make it mandatory, they need to make it compelling.

Free games whilst you are a subscriber is a great incentive for the consumer to keep paying, but the service needs to be compelling or relevant. I think the only service PS+ provides is discounts.

And the promise of exclusive deals is not cool, it doesn't mean PS+ users will get first access to games/demos vs. any other platforms, it means PS+ users will get first access to games/demos vs. regular PS users - which isn't cool.

@BlackedOut

The reason why they can't do all of that if because Sony is not making enough revenue to support it. By making it optional, you're letting the player choose to play online for free or pay 50 bucks for it. The general gamer would 100 times over choose free which is bad marketing. & the discounts are not even worth it because you're paying 50 bucks to get a discount on something you still have to buy? It just doesn't make sense. Sony is trying to cut corner with PS+ by taking away certain features like background downloading & not implementing features such as cross game chat. They need money to stay alive in this generation of gaming or else they're going to tank next generation. Right now, the Big thing keeping PS3 slightly better than 360 is Blu-Ray. Once the next cycle of consoles come along in the next 5 years, Microsoft's new console is bound to have a Blu-Ray player in it. & if Sony keeps this up, they'll have nothing left to fight back with.

Dude. Microsoft will not have Blu-Ray, if that's what you are waiting for, it will be a long wait.

I'm a fan of Microsoft products, because of the whole ecosystem they have going on & are building upon, but if you think Blu-Ray is the only thing Sony has over Microsoft, you need to wake up.

Firstly, LIVE - The service is great, and its definitely worth it for the features it provides, which is why I keep paying - but I know many people who own Playstations, looking from the outside-in, its like you either pay for online or you don't. When they witness it, that's a different story but their initial view is a view many people share.

And the Blu-Ray discs are very compelling format, it allows Playstation games to have lots of rich assets - Like we see in God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 and its the reason Final Fantasy 13 looks that much better on the Playstation. Microsoft need an answer to this by the next generation or they will be in deep shit.

I completely agree with you on those points. Maybe I shouldn't have said the next xbox will have Blu-Ray. Rather MS will have their own version of Blu-Ray whatever that may be. & I'm not an advocate for playstation users as I don't own one. But I'm speaking from a general standpoint. MS makes a killing off of Xbox Live & with their new slim model out, more & more people will subscribe. But the reason why people love Xbox Live so much because MS gives back to the users by not only offering discounts & deals but offering things like Game with Fame or Community Playdate. News updates & they even answer user questions with Send U A Message & show How-To's with Xbox 101. Even special promotions for retail items. PSN+ doesn't have the gamer in mind. It's just a fishing rod trying to lure people in with discounts & free (OLD) games. PSN needs something like that if they want to compete with Xbox Live because you're right, Playsation users from the outside looking in see only the price & say to themselves "Well PSN is free."

Paying a direct competitor (amongst several other companies) royalties upon the success of its own platform just isn't Microsoft. They have too much pride, and it isn't good business.
