Perhaps those smooth moves will inspire you to get some freestyle walking in as well -- in real life? Good thing, then, that Brink is sponsoring "champion freerunner" Daniel Ilabaca on a European parkour tour. The tour kicked off today in London and will hit a handful of major EU cities before ending in Paris on September 2. We might also suggest you buy lots of padding and, depending on your level of fitness, a membership to the local gym before trying that "freerunning" yourself.
Brink's second dev diary explains the S.M.A.R.T. system

The latest Brink dev diary shows us the game's "Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain" system -- or "S.M.A.R.T." for short -- and how it allows players to deftly traverse environments while firing bullets at enemies. This is the system that allows players to practice their totally sweet parkour moves while murdering fools.

I didn't actually realise it would be so comprehensive, with moves like wall runs and chaining them into vaults.
This game has shot way up on my radar.

If it's possible to pull off a sliding crotch shot in this game, I will get officially excited.

This looks fantastic, plus it addresses my main complaint with Call of Duty; its completely random selection of climbable objects! Wait... I can climb this pole but not..... the other twenty on the map? Why?
Call of Dutys system is completely unintuitive, and this really addresses that, however whether the gunplay can match up to the gimmick is another matter, because if it doesnt this was all for naught...... and rival studies wouldnt feel the need to copy this system.
I think this game needs to succeed for an intuitive navigation system like this to take off throughout the FPS genre, heres hoping! :)

I used to think that way about CoD, that its climbing mechanic was not consistent, and the level had special objects with a "climbability" toggle or something. But I'm pretty sure it's a consistent mechanic that depends on the height and slant of the object in front of you.

@Levi Thats what I thought until my brother introduced me to the magic drain pipe on themap "underpass".
Granted, MW2 is much more consistent than the first, but it is still blatanty programmed in. You as the gamer can only climb those objects that the developer has given you permission to.
The Call of Duty and medal of honour series evolved from the school of the impassable small gate and has slowly improved over time, but the system demonstrated here, is an absolute revolution compared to that.
Which is awesome! :)

You beat me to it! I was just logging in to say that!
My new question?
Does the magic get you high?
Then it's a preorder fersure!

@VanNorden Surely, people didnt go out of their way to downvote this JUST because it referenced MW2?
If this game is going to succeed it is gonna have to compare favourably to the "most popular" shooter out there. His comment is steeped in relevenance and horror, for shame, random band wagon! For shame!

Maybe Bethesda should take some notes from Splash-Damage and employ some of these SMART controls, considering their issues with ladders.

Bethesda Game Director Todd Howard: "One day, we tried to figure out why we wanted ladders so bad because we don't really need them. It just felt like we're game development pussies because we can't do ladders."

I'm buying this game, that is a fact and a S.M.A.R.T. choice, at least better that buying another overrated generic FPS.
The shooters needs inovation and this guys have a nice proposal, looks fun, I pay for that.

So Uncharted 2 but first person. Nice. But I could do without the sliding shooting.
