Rockstar offering Red Dead cheaters a chance at Redemption
43
Next Tuesday, Rockstar San Diego will swing low its terrible banhammer, winking players with hacked Red Dead Redemption game saves out of existence. If you're one of these miscreants, but you'd rather not have your Gamertag/PSN ID permabanned from the Wild Western's multiplayer component, you still have an out: Delete your hacked game saves. Yep, your single-player saves, too. It's harsh, we know -- but maybe you should have thought of that before adopting your life of petty crime.

HAHA! NICE! A+ to Rockstar for this. Every game NEEDS to police itself like this. There is no excuse not to try and make the game enjoyable for everyone involved by keeping the people who deserve to be on top actually on top.
Here's looking at you Modern Warfare 2.

You should try PC gaming. There's a lot less hackers. And since you can create your own servers, you can hack with your friends if you want to.

I completely agree with this. What's the point of leaderboards, ranked matches etc. if one guy is gonna come in and screw it up for everyone else.
....all it takes is ONE GUY to screw up everything...happens everywhere, school, corporations, traffic...
At least they are sending a warning first, chances are this will weed out most of the grief players too.

@ShadowXIII I was referring more to the several dozen people who constantly hack their way to the top of the leaderboards in games. There's always around 20 or something players who hack their way to the top.
MW2 is the biggest offender I've seen. Even before I traded MW2 towards ME2 back January people had already hacked their way to the top. The developers, who ever is in control over that game right now, don't even try to stop it. The top 100 people on the leaderboards for CoD4, WaW, and MW2 have all, most likely, hacked in some way. How else do you explain killstreaks of 600 something? If you didn't hack that you, at the very least, boosted for it. I, for the life of me, can't understand why it is so very difficult for people to just sit down and play the game like a normal human being. They have cheat. Don't make no sense.

There's a difference between hacking and modding. Hacking is when you do stuff you shouldn't have access to, and it usually results in cheating. Modding is, well kinda doing stuff you shouldn't be able to, but you do it in a productive way (like new levels or game modes)
Valve does not let people hack their games, that's why they have VAC.
Modding does NOT = hacking. That is for consoles only.

I've never even touched the online portion of this game. I'm I missing anything amazing?

@DeeZeee Sorry, but yes, you are. Free roam is something I've been waiting to see in multiplayer for a long time. Shootouts are incredible, and it's a wonderful idea. Weapons are superbly fun to handle and shoot, very satisfying. Customizing your character is a cluster of joy as well.
Only complaints are the controls, which can go for the whole game. Simple things like walking through a doorway can be challenging, and that hurts when people are shooting you and your trying to take cover.
Fantastic multiplayer. Highly advise you to start touching.

@Shadowbender
sorry Shadowbender but did you play this game for the first month and thats it?? Free roam is empty in every sense... there are gang hide outs and thats about it. almost no NPC roaming at all. The only thing to do is grief people online or to join a posse and hunt animals or do the hideouts... free roam was fun for a couple of weeks but then it became dead. ive been in and out of servers with only like 5 people in it half the time. the guns are fun to use and all but all you really need is the High Powered Pistol for close range and Springfield Rife for long range shots... the other guns are useless after unlocking both of those.
now if you are talking about playlist modes like deathmatch or free for all then yes, it is quite fun. the co-op missions are fun aswell altho they can get repetitive, but are fun to gold star in hardcore.
single player is another story... one of the best single player games i have played this year by far, and altho some hated the ending i thought it was amazing and would have not have it any other way... now if they would give me the option to switch the annoying voice of jack to john i'd be happy.

Multiplayer is fun. Freeroam, even without a group of friends, can be a pretty great time waster to just mess around in. The competetive / Co-OP play is really fun and can suck in in for awhile too.
As has been pointed out, some people agree that it's fun & others don't - either way you should at least check it out for yourself.

I really like it, but it took me a while to figure out how to access all the different game modes. Sure there's the free roam which is a ton of fun if you've got some friends to ride with, but there's also various other gametypes, like deathmatch, grab the bag, free for all, and the coop missions. I used to think you had to ride over to a point on the free roam map, and then get everyone else to join you there, which seems impossible on a server full of random people (and it is). But there's a much easier way! As soon as you drop into multiplayer free roam, press the back button. From there you can see a list of people playing on your server, but also a list of available gametypes to join (some may not be available until you level up a bit). If you choose one of the gameypes it will do some standard matchmaking and drop you into a game full of players.
Multiplayer is a little different than most games, so here are some pointers:
If you run, you show up on everyone's radar. Don't run. Crouch, even.
Don't just go towards the middle of the map looking for enemies when you spawn, instead try to find a decent weapon first by heading for the gun icons on your map.
Find the dead-eye boxes and learn to use them to your advantage.
Make sure your multiplayer auto aim is set to normal or casual, not expert.
Have fun!

Why would you put a game save hack on Red Dead Redemption? The story is one of the best i've ever seen in a game and so is the gameplay!
Posted: Aug 17th 2010 11:50PM swooded said
@la38
I'm guessing it's mainly for multiplayer (as there is a lot of leveling & unlocks in MP), but if you played single from the same save it would still be a hacked save & you'd therefore have a hacked single player save.
I can't really see any other reason you'd mess with single player, especially since rockstar always includes cheats that are hardly kept secret anyway.

Its great to hear they are doing something about the cheaters.....
But I dont understand why they are giving cheaters a way out. I dont think deleting a game save is harsh enough. They will just wait until there is another exploit to take advantage of the system. Ban the cheaters for good.

How about instead of doing this they allowed people to use cheats through the story in Single Player instead of disabling saving as it does now? It should disable all achievements when they use the cheats, but allow saving.
No company should have the right to delete the time a player has invested in the game which they purchased.
Block the gamertag from playing online or something, but don't delete the person's save games.
