I already own Chrono Trigger on the SNES and PS1, is the DS version worth the 15 bucks?

@NaeemTHM It's got a Monster-Rancher style pet Arena, not sure if it was in previous incarnations or not - I missed the SNES and PS1 ships.

I personally wanted Chrono Trigger on the DS as soon as the original DS came out because I felt it would be the perfect platform for it. I just love Chrono Trigger so much. I had it for the SNES as well, but one of my peeves was that you couldn't save all the endings you had seen (which the DS version allows).
It was well worth the $35 I paid for it way when it launched on the DS.

If you are a bona fide Chrono freak (like, if you've played Radical Dreamers), then the continuity-bridging new story sequences and ending are worth it, not to mention it's nice having a portable version if you replay it periodically. Even if you're not, just buying the game will help send a message to SquEnix that people want Chrono.

@NaeemTHM Even ignoring the kinda horrible add-ons for the DS version, I'd say it's the definitive version of CT. It's like the PS1 version without the horrible load times and a better script.

Chrono Trigger is in this weird state where all the editions offer something unique.
The original has the original translation and just the smoothest presentation values overall.
The PS1 version had massive slowdown and loading issues, but had a load of out of game features such as animated cutscenes, an ending viewer, a sound test, and a bestiary (I believe).
The DS had everything the PS1 version had minus the load issues. It was a good port overall, but the game was completely retranslated into something that was just overall soulless. On the bright side there was a few new dungeons and a new ending added to the game, including new and recycled assets, as well as assets that were planed for the original but were scrapped. The menu system is a lot better with the dual screens as well.
So if you are a crazed fan (like me) and can't get enough CT, I'd pay the $15.

I think this sums up what it is like to actually play most Square-Enix games.

I take it you've never played Chrono Trigger then. It is easily one of the best games ever made, and one of the best RPG's ever made (if not the best). It screams excellence in all development aspects (story, gameplay, music, and graphics) and has more replay value than any RPG I've ever played.
If you have never played Chrono Trigger, even if you are not a fan of RPG's, you are missing out. $15 for the DS version is a great opportunity to experience what is probably the best game on the SNES.

I take it you do not know what the word "Most" means. Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games.
It was just a joke man, most people recognize that Square-Enix has a ton of games that have stories no better than soap operas.

Whoa, nice way to bounce back with your response... Sorry I misunderstood your post as I did not see the joke in it, but I agree with you as far as most Square Enix RPGs (newer ones, especially). I haven't been a fan of most of Square's RPGs as of late, although I am playing FF XIII now and it has surpassed my expectations thus far.
Anyway, the point is, if someone out there is reading this and you don't normally play RPGs for one reason or another, make Chrono Trigger your first exception.

I know I'm going to get downrated, but I just COULD NOT get into 'the world ends with you'. I played it for about 8 hours before giving up. I thought it was too repetitive. I loved Chrono Trigger and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days was pretty cool too.

@superaj You certainly have a LOT of patience to put up with a game that you couldn't get into for EIGHT hours.

You're not alone. I just could not comprehend the appeal of that game. It was noisy, tacky, ugly, repetitive, constrained, and playing it straight-up made me nauseous. And yet it seems to be one of the darlings of this generation. Even the guy at Gamestop when I finally returned the game seemed shocked that I didn't like it.

I can respect a man who put 8 hours into a game, but still didn't end up liking it. You gave it a good chance and I salute you for it.
I'd say it's not one of the best DS games, but only because there are so many great DS games.
It's still pretty darn fantastic.

I also found Final Fantasy IV DS for $15, so altogether I spent like $68. Hope the wife doesn't find out!

The World Ends With You is the best thing Square has done this generation...I'm sure it was hard for them to green light something non Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest...
Is the Kingdom Hearts game worth picking up though? I love the series but it just gets more and more convoluted

Saving all the money I would spend on DS stuff for the 3DS.

You misconstrue. Had I said that I was saving my money due to the quality of the games, your argument may have been valid. But due to my low income, I was saying that any money that I can round up that I would use for DS merchandise is being pocketed to buy the 3DS. I've played TWEWY and Chrono Trigger for the PS1, I know they are great.

I would jump on TWEwY (have and beat the other two) if not for fear of coming up short on cab fare (but I might have juuuust enough...if I use my sis's b/f's Amazon Prime for free shipping).
