Microsoft's Channel 9 has posted a quick preview – more of a commercial really – of the Halo Waypoint app on Windows Phone 7. Based on Silverlight, the app offers a streamlined version of the console experience, tying into Xbox Live and allowing users to check out articles, video and more. See it in action after the break.

Silverlight is great, do you have any actual reason for not wanting to install it?

it's just another plugin, it's a hassle and it's annoying, just so Microsoft can use their own brand again and not hand money over to Adobe. There's no need for it, although I'm not going to put down competition; it's a good thing. It's just annoying to have to download more plugins.
It's like Quicktime. Just go away, we don't need you.

@Levi its even more annoying if you dont use windows, as its badly implemented on other platforms, I refuse to install it. They want to be special they can use a defined standard which they have agreed to namely HTML 5, don't force me to install a new plugin, not going to happen.

@Cheesus Crust - Why not WinMo7? Rolls off the tongue better. That, and I've become accustomed to it.

where did the Se come from? I know it used to be Windows Phone Series, but the dropped the "series" part long ago. Windows Mobile is still way better, cause WinMo is far easier to say, and Windows Phone doesn't sound like the name of an operating system. But you can't blame MS for wanting to distance themselves from what has become the least popular mobile OS.

@PWRWarTG Yeah, my bad. But I believe that Microsoft should have taken more advantage of the brand new release of the Windows Phone 7 series to develop a full Halo game.
This app looks amazing, but just imagine how much more wp7 would have sold if they had a Halo game by launch date later on this fall.

You better believe that are working on a *proper* Halo game. They had two choices: Rush out a half-assed game to coincide with launch and guarantee a poor reception or wait and put out a polished product. Heck, don't be surprised if you don't see a Halo title until they implement true, real-time multi-player. It actually makes more sense for them to come out with a turn based Halo Wars first.
