Get up to (hyper) speed with this Metroid: Other M trailer
25
With the release of Metroid: Other M only days away, it's probably time we all got caught up on the series. Thankfully, Nintendo has released a handy video that condenses the entire story into seven minutes -- minus most of the portable entries and the entire Metroid Prime series, anyway.

I love this trailer, and the girl playing Samus is right on.
You guys should mess round with the interactive trailer that's up on GT right now:

@False Also because the Prime series had less to do with Metroids and more with Phazon.
(And Metroid Fusion takes place after Metroid: Other M; and Metroid: Zero Mission=Metroid).

@False Yeah, the Prime series is more like a side story, it's not really important to the later plotline, it's just an adventure Samus once went on.
Fusion take place later and isn't relevant to this part of the story.
Zero Mission is a remake of Metroid (I'm not sure why they didn't use footage from that here since it's the canon version).
Metroid Prime: Hunters is... well we like to pretend that never happened.

Very, very cool. It makes me so excited for Other M but also makes me want to play the old Metroids again.

Didn't mean that. Was talking more about the chick that is voicing Samus.
This doesn't bode well for the game in my opinion.

So Zero Mission is not cannon ? I loved Zero mission and thought it well worthy to be considered a replacement for the original. I'm guessing they are skipping prime because japanese get all dizzy in first person games and this game is more to their liking.

Zero Mission is the canon version. But none of the expanded information was really necessary to the story, all you need to know is "Samus got to Zebes and killed everybody" so they used the NES footage for that so as not to confuse the audience (a person who hasn't played a Metroid game)

To be clear, this game takes place after Super Metroid, or Metroid 3.
The Prime games take place after Metroid 1/Zero Mission.
The timeline was stated pretty succinctly in the video, but with the Primes, it goes like this:
Metroid/Zero Mission
-Prime
-Hunters (ugh)
-Echoes
-Corruption
Metroid 2: Return of Samus
Super Metroid
---METROID: OTHER M---
Metroid Fusion
The reason they didn't include the Primes is because, as stated, they weren't all that important to the main storyline (concerning Metroids, the Pirates, Zebes, and SR388).
ALSO, the main 'team' of Metroid had little to nothing to do with the Prime games; it was all Retro Studios for the most part.

Awesome trailer. As someone who only began playing Metroid Prime a few weeks ago it was good for this recap trailer. I'm joining the Metroid game late but at least I've now joined it. I'll either not get Other M or if I do it'll not be for another year or so (I've enough Metroid to play for a long time), but it looks good.

Makes me wonder if the little recap scene with Mother Brian hints that the opening boss fight will be to take her out, or if its just video to add to the story. that would be an... interesting tutorial fight.
Also why does Zebes have two stressed syllables? every time a series adds voice acting they tell me I've been pronouncing something wrong.
