PS3 Mass Effect 2 to have 'seamless introduction,' integrates 'a lot' of DLC
102
BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka has revealed to VG247 that Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network DLC will be available for the PS3 version in a "full way." While he didn't get too specific, he indicated that "a lot," if not all of the post-release content that's been released for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game will be integrated into the initial PS3 release. Additionally, the PS3 port will feature some form of an "introduction experience that provides the backstory and the things that have happened" in the first game (which is not available on PS3).
"We haven't revealed what that is yet," Muzyka said of the introduction for first-time Mass Effect players. "It'll be something that provides a good introduction and provides a lot of the backstory and introduces you well to the story-arc, and kind of makes you feel like you're part of it all. And then you can jump right into the action in Mass Effect 2."
Muzyka also touched on the possibility of Mass Effect 3 launching simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, teasing, "That'd be a good guess, but we haven't announced any details on any future formats or anything -- or even formally announced Mass Effect 3 yet." Of course, BioWare "wants to support different platforms, reach different audiences," Muzyka added, "we're part of EA and we want to make sure we can embrace that as well. I think we're trying to do that with all of our products, whether it's Dragon Age or Mass Effect."

@FlareSama still it's not "your" ME2. it's not your commander and not yours decisions that default "fail" Shepard based on. but if you played Me2 without importing a ME character than you are ok. i personally will not buy ps3 version because i have my all_good_sweet_lesbian Shepard from Mass Effect and i'm kinda attached to her. All my decisions all my quests all of that is in ME2 and i hope i will continue to be so in ME3!

Well, not really...
All of those stat points that you poured into your character were done away with in the sequel.
Also, I have a feeling this exclusive content at the beginning will be used to give people options in how their Shepard is made before ME2.

Not really, literally all if not most of the decisions have repercussions in the sequel. It would be great for you to have the first game too.
That being said something is better than nothing, and Mass Effect 2 is the better of the two games.

Yeah, but other than sentimental value to your Lesbian Sheppard, there isnt much there so it doesnt matter.
I was completely let down when I met Liara in ME2. I figured they'd get totally down in some "Long Time No Screw" Lesbo action, but nope, its like "OK yeah, youre here, How's it going?"

I get you, the major decisions like the Rachni and all those important things will be great to let you choose from. Using the import tool in Mass Effect 2 should be a pretty good idea of the things they will probably let the user choose.
But the little things make the experience man, knowing the characters that show up and, yeah, even Conrad and how you treated him in the first game. No doubt you will get a great experience though.

You know.. maybe it's me, but I just don't see Microsoft letting ME3 release on 360 at the same time as the PS3 version. I think they're going to push hard for another timed exclusive deal.
But.. EA's been giving Sony a lot of love lately, so maybe it'll happen.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Though it would be interesting to see Sony throw down a massive offer for ME3 to release on PS3 first.
Eh, it'll never happen.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Does EA even do timed exclusivity between PS3 and 360? I've always thought they were the ones who prefer to not do those sort of deals. I could be wrong though. It's just no EA games come to mind.

He means like Dante Inferno. How the PS3 gets extra content free while 360 doesn't.

Considering Microsoft still owns the publishing rights for ME1, and a large part of the ME fanbase is on xbox, it would be very surprising if EA risked alienating microsoft by agreeing to something like that.
I'd bet that it'll be another timed exclusive. It's also entirely possible that they're contractually obligated to do a timed exclusive. Did Microsoft own any of the publishing/do any of the funding for ME2?

I didn't see any mention of content. Timed exclusivity usually means one platform gets the game earlier than the other for a set period of time.
Despite Dante's Inferno having additional content on the PS3 version, it was a simultaneous multi-platform release.

That doesn't make any sense. Sorry, but EA isn't going to alienate anyone because the ME fans will play it regardless of which system it hits first. As long as they can play it they will.

Don't worry about timed exclusivity in this case. We're dealing with EA, not Activision.

@hardbread,
this franchise is one of the reasons I bought my 360, and like many others I secretly found out it was only a timed exclusive (when it was released on PC and now PS3). I'm gad for PS3 owners (being one of them), but this is some major bullcrap MS is pulling off. More than half the reason I bought my 360 is now gone and all I did was waste money when I could have gotten only a PS3 instead of both.

I don't think it's up to MS anymore. As you mentioned, Sony and EA are new strategic partners like MS and ACTI. I'd bet the farm that ME3 is a multiplayform simultaneous release.

Sorry Wiizer, but hot female gamers who play good games are an endangered species and not to be featured as part of this pre-order bonus whatsoever in accordance to the convention of human rights act 136F.
And don't worry Ruction, 360 gamers survive on a diet that consists entirely of Mountain Dew and Doritos. Territorial markings of toilet seats have been known to occur but are considered very rare these days.

Sounds like the PS3 version is basically a GOTY type version with all the DLC included. Glad they cleared the air about the long intro for ps3 users who never played ME1. ME1 was great but I wouldn't want to play it again regardless.

The Cerberus Network DLC is free.
I'm not too sure how they'll treat the stuff like Overlord and the other full Addon packs.
