Begbie is in this game? Aw, I might have to get it then. I'm not like the GoW clone vibe I'm getting from it though =(

@Haelie How is it a 'clone' of God of War?

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze; Sorry, the gameplay just looks identical to me. In the same way Arkanoid was a Breakout clone, Congo Bongo was a Donkey Kong clone, and Golde Axe Warrior was a Zelda clone, this looks like a 'God of War clone'.

@Haelie Ohhh.

So if I've played a God of War game, I can go ahead and skip this one, since they are pretty much identical?

Maybe not identical, but similar enough to warrant comparison. Swinging chains about, linking combos, fighting big monsters, there's probably some puzzle solving...even the color palettes are kind of samey.

You do know 3D Castlevania games existed before God of War right?

Yes, but they were weak, save for the second PS2 one, which I kind of liked. God of War isn't original, but it's one of the best, most refined action games there are. It's a solid design to borrow, like how Darksiders borrowed from Zelda. It doesn't make it a game worth ignoring, but I'd rather wait for the game to hit bargain pricing.

Sorry everyone, didn't mean to open up a can of worms. I realize it isn't popular to dislike God of War, so I'll proceed to not state my personal opinion on such matters. If you like it, that's totally cool. But I don't, so I'd rather not play a game that was clearly inspired by it ... even though I've always adored Castlevania.

God of War plays completely different from Ninja Gaiden and DMC so that passive aggressive comparison really isn't wokring here. The fact is this game plays exactly like God of War from every gameplay shown. It has the ridiculous arcs that's similar to God of War. Ninja Gaiden nor DMC have that. Would it hurt you to give God of War a LITTLE credit?

@Haelie Watching some of the puzzles in the gameplay vids, I was getting more of a "Prince of Persia" vibe than "God of War".

While it does have a god of war vibe to it, there is a certain epicness that sets it apart, one thing that I saw that I didnt like was how enemies didnt react to being hit,

after watching the ign trailer it definitely maintains a spot on my to buy list.

I miss the days when buying a physical copy of a game actually got you the entire game. Launch-ready DLC is probably one of the most stupid and manipulative industry trends I've ever seen.

I'm confused as to whether or not you don't like DLC in general or just launch-ready DLC, because regardless of when it is available, if a game has DLC then you are not getting the "entire" game when you buy it.

@gatotsu911 I agree. And what's more annoying than that is that no one does huge episodic expansions anymore. It's all costumes, and 1 hour missions for $10-15. Not even worth the money most of the time.

Should just include it in the main game.

There are essentially two types of DLC: the kind that's developed post-launch and released later on for the purpose of continuing to support the title (i.e. expansion packs), and the kind that's developed alongside, or even cut out of the main game, then released separately at launch (typically at unreasonable price points) for the express purpose of wringing more money out of gamers. It's the latter variety that I have a problem with; players are essentially being sold an incomplete game.

I still dont get why developers continue to teasing us with future DLC,. Its like saying:

"Hey you morons, guess what, I take out some levels of the game, so we can sell it to you after release, ha ha ha, you are going to pay for something that we can easily place right now, you punks"

And we, the gamers, support this. I cant believe it, really, I cant. ( I dont support as I dont buy DLC that must be on the retail disc in the first time)

That's not how it actually works. Just because there are "plans" for future DLC doesn't mean the content is ready RIGHT NOW and they're just withholding it. It means they want to get their game out in a timely manner but still want to expand and support it down the road. There is a period of time between when the game is finished and when it's released, and I don't see why devs shouldn't use that time to start with DLC work.

This game looks pretty awesome, and I'll probably buy it, and if the DLC is good I'll probably buy that too.

@ObiAlKenobi I would agree, but only if there was proof that this was actually the case. I think the real problem right now is there isn't enough transparancy...when a company announces DLC that will be available at launch, or close to launch, we, as gamers, don't exactly know what that means. Was there a separate team working specifically on DLC? Was the DLC trully withheld from the final product in an attempt to make some extra cash?
While we often talk a lot about the dangers of companies abusing DLC to make more money, we tend to ignore the positives. I would think that the existance, or the possibility of, DLC takes some pressure off of developers, who no longer have to scramble to pack all potential content into the final product before launch. Instead of a bonus story, or dungeon, or some non-essential concept being cut and left for dead, developers can put it aside and flesh it out later, even after the original game is finished.

@ObiAlKenobi I actually think there are DLC that's is worth to pay for.

For example Modern Warfare 2 DLC are a big scam in my opinion since you're getting maps that you're only gonna play online and some of those are old maps remastered for a new game.

But for example Dragon Age, Borderlands DLC it was actually worth to pay because you're getting a lot of new content to make the game bigger for you.

It's a cuestion of knowing what you're getting and if it is worth to pay for.

Anyway if the game is really good you always have the chance to wait for a Game of the Year release where you're going to get all the DLC on disc, something that is actually is happening with Borderlands and Dragon Age.

I don't know think that's the case most of the time. It's not like with a sequel where they can make some fundamental changes to the engine. Most of the time, they're just using the same mechanics they built into the original game (and sometimes even the same textures/models) to add an extra something to swing your sword at for an hour.

The only company I feel uses DLC as a service to the fans is Valve. They add lots of new game modes and levels to their games all the time, and they do it for free. You almost feel guilty getting so much from them for so little after dealing with all these other nickle and dimers out there.

Yes, you actually undestand what I trying to say. I mean, its not like they cant place that extra content into the retail game.

Or if the publisher is pressing the developer to release the game at a given date, then they could release that "un-released" content for free, like valve on PC.

And since Valve is implementing Steam on the PSN, I just can wonder how the updates are going to be for their futures games on the PS3

Having fairly recently played God of War 3 and Bayonetta, another game that plays similarly isn't quite what I want. But I've loved Castlevania for 20 years, and didn't mind the PS2 games, so I'll grab this one.

Sometimes setting, and style, can get you past a gameplay style that you don't necessarily care to play. Sometimes the gameplay can kill the franchise, though, if you'd really rather play the earlier style games. We'll see how this one goes.

P.S. I haven't been convinced either.

I didn't mean to speak for everyone. In general they've shown some of the cinematics, a small snippet of the combat and a small snippet of horse riding.

For me personally, what they shown does not convince me that this game needs DLC packs and a limited edition. I think that's to much to gloat about before you've even proved yourself. That's where my dislike of the direction of the industry comes from.

Reminds me of the Dead Space animated movie and merchandise before the first game was even released.

And really I understand your point, and agree with it. I just don't want to paint an entire industry with a negative label because a few developers/publishers are arrogant.

But don't get me started about the pre-order bonuses that they've been dropping. Access to a beta or demo? Multiplayer skins? Those make me want to hunt people down and hurt them severely.

God of War's gameplay was great.
Bayonetta's gameplay was great as well, so it won't matter whichever it ends up being more like, it will be good.

And if the gameplay was to ever get boring, then we still have those traditional kickass Castlevania Soundtracks we've grown accustomed to.

I'll probably end up pre-ordering the LE from GS (for the t-shirt), albeit it is a bit weak for an extra $20.

Hopefully the reviews are favorable for this.

Patrick Stewart and Jason Isaacs providing VO's for this game is awesome.
