Molyneux: No 'Pub Games' for Fable 3, but something else this October
48
In 2008, Fable 2 had a unique pre-launch promotion in the form of Fable 2 Pub Games, an Xbox Live Arcade collection of three gambling minigames. The money earned from the XBLA game (and for cheaters, it was an awful lot of money) could then be transferred into the action RPG and fund further in-game gambling. Pub Games won't return for the release of Fable 3, but there is some kind of new tie-in that Lionhead plans to reveal in "early October" -- a few weeks ahead of the game's October 26 launch.
In an interview with Joystiq today at Gamescom, Microsoft's Peter Molyneux wouldn't get into details about the project, but did seem to fiddle with his mobile phone as he said, "It's more to do with this sort of thing." Molyneux previously teased another Fable 3 tie-in back in February, but that turned out to be the player-created NPCs. This appears to be something different.
The designer had some colorful commentary on Pub Games, describing the infamous exploit as a "disaster." After finding out that unscrupulous individuals could start the game with millions in gold, Lionhead had tried to pull Fable 2 out of certification in order to make the word "cheat" float over their head of anyone that left Pub Games a little too rich. He concluded jovially, "That's not going to f*cking happen in Fable 3!"

I just can't take internet gaming forum commentators seriously anymore....oh wait, nobody ever did.
Yeah, Molyneux gets a little carried away when it comes to talking about his games. So? It means he's in the right field, that he cares about it.
Sure, he hasn't reached the kind of amazingness that he described Fable 1 as, but at least he's trying to do something new, and probably eventually will. Better than a lot of derivative developers out there that can't do something original to save their lives.

@C1 Really dude? Peter ay over hype some things, but I love that the industry still has people in it like Molyneux who wantto have these amazing things in games.
He aims pretty damn big, and things have to get pulled in order to dedicate resources and time to finishing the game. What is the saying....always aim for the moon, even if you fail, you'll land with the stars.
I know a lot of people think he is full of shit, but he at least is willing to dream big in his games. Not enough people do that.

Hopefully whatever they decide to do will integrate with XBL for WP7. Would love to have a min-game on my phone to earn experience/gold in Fable 3. It could potentially lead to other developers making these types of games for the WP7 platform to integrate with their 360 games.

I really have a feeling that's what it'll be especially since rumors have been pointing WP7 launches to be sometime around late October to mid-November timeframe...

It's hard enough to read your comments with bad grammar/punctuation but when they're grayed out, it makes it worse.

how does making a joke equate to sounding like an idiot? o_O
@captain planet
well there's nothing I can do about that , for some reason people get voted down for making a joke and having their own opinion, but then comments that call people idiots get voted up. Interesting indeed.

@Gco "y u mad peter that we found out how to make a lot of money easy on your Fable 2?"
y = random letter
u = random letter
peter = Is this someone's name, are you using slang to describe a penis?
Where did the sentence start?
I'm still wondering how your 'joke' is written in English.

ah i see. Well seeing how "y" and "u" are part of the English alphabet it would seem that you are not as fluent in English as you think you are o_o.
And of course, peter is peter molyneux, only with the first letters lower cased for convenience. I thought that was obvious from the beginning, or maybe it was to everyone else.

If I write shorthand and use "y" and "u" in the context of a sentence, then it is understood that it translates to why and you.
And obvious jokes do not equate to being an idiot, or souding like one. But trying to bash my joke and obvious shorthand writing, calling me an idiot even though you don't know my education level.... well that's pretty ignorant I must say.
And yes I like my joke. If you don't, oh well it makes no difference to me.

I disagree. I found Trakan's meaning clear.
Speaking of bandwagons, those posting here are jumping on two:
1. The downvote-anyone-who-criticizes-Peter-Molyneux bandwagon and
2. The upvote-Captain-Planet bandwagon.

What's with all the douches hating on Peter Molyneux, i for one think he's a legend he's a benefit to the industry, i do agree that he used to promise things he eventually didn't deliver but the thing is he wanted to, he has great ideas and with the current technology he's being able to show us stuff he tried to make back in fable 1.
anyway i wonder what this mini fable 3 arcade will be, a tower defense type of game where you control fables factions would be cool.

Yeah, this is all part of typical Molyneux Bullshit here.
At the time of Fable 2, he didn't want to admit the pub was a horrible idea with a nasty flaw, so his ego led him to say it was an intended mechanic, designed to punish cheaters in a way once the game is out. Of course nothing happened.
But now that Fable 3 is in the works and close to release, he is free to say as mcuh as he likes, just as he did with Fable 1 on the outset of 2's release. Expect a glitch in 3's mini-game to be labeled as a feature, only until its a few months before Fable 4.

Yeah, about as loveable as an Aids infected dog bite.
Some people say that Peter is an over enthusiastic, jug eared, Kempston sniffing boy botherer with nothing better to do than to make "wacky" ideas up about playing games with boys. His critics, however, are less kind....
I bet this guy sniffs the rubberized keys on a ZX Spectrum for his perverted pleasure.
Oh yeah, and Peter....Child Protection Services has got their eye on you. Your "relationship" with that digital boy is unnerving.
