@NewBatteryz564 It's optional. You can play basic KEYS with the guitar. Or you can plug in your own keyboard via MIDI-IN. Also, you can still play the game and enjoy it without the keys. Seems like you are looking for a excuse NOT to buy it. Weird, most people try to find excuses to do the opposite.
Also, it's funny that you mention not buying more plastic instruments when DJ Hero 2 is supposed to focus on two player - two turntable modes + microphone.

Maybe I just missed the news on this, but have they said whether the new turntable will differ at all from the original?

I know from the videos they've released it at least looks pretty much the same, but I didn't know if they claimed to have "optimized" it at all.

Does Activision just pump this crap out as quickly as possible with no regard to quality or replay value? I mean really, does the world need a new "Hero" title ever year?

@shattercross It's Activision, so yes.

But I'll give DJ Hero 2 a nod since it seems to be shaping up well. Enjoyed the first one and its soundtrack is still in my normal rotation.

@JohnDM I picked up DJ Hero when best buy put it on sale for 40 this past week. So far I'm loving it very good mixes...Expert mode really does a good job with cross fading and mixing. Too bad they didn't put two platters on the controller. But I'm actually impressed with how they set it up.

Two questions: Does DJ Hero 2 use the exact same controller as DJ Hero? And, can you make your own character in DJ Hero / DJH2?

As a DJ I passed on the 1st one due to the controller being entirely unrealistic. At least the fret keys and the strum bar on guitar hero controllers make sense from an emulation standpoint. Buttons ON vinyl? not so much. Change the controller and you might get the interest of the authentic market that isn't just interested in cashing in on your franchise Activision.

@Shauk

Exactly the reasons I steered clear, I stuck with the closest I am likely to get to playing a guitar, and thats by emulating it with 5 buttons :D

@Shauk I did the same thing, as a former DJ myself. Then I finally heard a few of the songs and they were kind of cool. Spring for a $40 DJ Hero set. Took a couple of nights to break the habits of real DJing to get used to the unrealistic turntable controller, but once I got by that, I found that I could bring in a few real DJ techniques to make the experience better (mainly with the fader-the effects knob, and "freestyle" notes are still beyond pointless).

All in all, as a former DJ, it can actually be fun, albeit it mostly unrelated to actual turntablism.

I wish I could play hip hop/r&b songs with the guitars and what not. Does anyone know if you can do this with this series?

@L4our

I'm so sick of Lady Gaga. I mean there are songs that I like of hers but it's way too overplayed, so I'm actually more disinterested in the songs unless they sound NOTHING like the normal versions. The Deadmau5 mix with Lady Gaga is horrible. All I heard was gaga ("just dance" over and over and over) and very little Deadmau5. So disappointing.

Put it this way, Activision is focusing on extremely popular tracks rather than great mixes from songs that are not so easily recognized. Plus, EYE (as in "I" or "me") feel that is WAY too much focus on the rap and crappy R&B rather than the techno/trance/electro/house genre.

I am definitely previewing all the songs/tracks/artists before I even think about pre-ordering this time. Don't get me wrong, DJH is fun .... but I don't want to hear 10 different versions of the Jackson Five abc song and 5 songs of DJ shadow track over and over again. 1song on ONLY one track. Otherwise it's too damn tiring.

AND:

fix the crossfader to stick in the middle.
let me create my own character
let me add my own samples to the freestyle instead of annoying Flavor Flav (love PE btw)
did I mention more house/techno/trance artists and songs

Ok .... Rant done.

Activison's on a roll now. You can expect at least 4 more sequels to this now.
