Bravo monsieur Schramm, that second paragraph stands amongst the very best things I've ever read on Joystiq.

Gamestop executives also tried to peddle a disc warranty to analysts, but analysts brushed off this ridiculous idea by claiming "i don't drag my discs across sandpaper before i play them".

That's not just Gamestop. I get DVD and videogame warranty requests from Best Buy and Walmart as well. Such a scam, but as long as some people fall for it, the company makes money.

@leemahi No one says you have to trade in your games. Save them as a collector too, that's the problem kids don't understand the value of things so they rather just go trade them in for pennies. I work for a GameStop and yeah it's one of the best companies I've worked for and as a customer what would we be doing without GameStop? Running around a Wal-Mart trying to find someone to open the glass case to get our game? Or go to best buy and fight around with people just to buy a game? I kinda like GameStop, sure they are greedy but cmon' what business isn't greed?

I'm done with Gamestop tradeins. They rip everyone off, which is how they make money. GS bought out everyone under the sun and now they are a super power but only through acquisitions rather than competitive play. It's the nature of the game now .... it's all about buyouts and mergers. My respect for GS has fallen through the roof. So now I do all my tradeins thru Amazon. Free shipping and more value. Plus, I get to use my credit thru Amazon. That means I can buy games, consoles, brooms, rubbers, candles, wax ... whatever I want to buy that's on Amazon .... not just more games so I can perpetuate an endless loop.

They also asked the analysts if there were any upcoming games they'd like to reserve and then gave them funny looks because they declined.

Anybody else shop their local Play-N-Trade to avoid the cars-salesman tactics of Gamestop? Seriously, almost every interaction I've had with a GS employee resulted in them either completely ignoring me, knowing little (if anything) about the games they're selling, or trying to sell me services that only a confused soccer mom would think are necessary (or a good value).

I just realized I've become one of those people that vents about GS in GS-related blog entries.

Whatever, I blame GS for driving me to it.

Complaining about GS in a GS related articles is called "staying on track".

And you and I are the same shopper. I just like seeing carts again. And there are TWO P-N-Ts in my area. I should visit them again and see if any Saturn games came in. :D

There's a PnT here in Tampa that is phenomenal and I try my damndest to purchase used games from them (I get my new stuff at larger stores because of exclusives and competitive pricing). The next-closest one in Orlando is just as bad as GS, but I still drop in to look at their older carts.

I've never had a bad experience at PnT and their pricing is always competitive if not superior to GS. I can talk to kids in PnT that were hired because they have an actual passion for gaming and will talk with me for an hour about how The Legend of Dragoon and Xenogear are overlooked but superior titles to the PS1 Final Fantasies.

I've never gotten that at GS and not because they don't stock older games. It's because most of the people who work there see it as any other job and don't care.

@Temidien I agree Temidien, the PnT's here in Tampa are phenomenal. There is also a Monster Games in Wesley Chapel that's just as good, check them out!

I have recently been to a Play-N-Trade for some ode skoo games. Their prices are good. There's also a few local Game Over Games locations here and I have been going there lately, tho their prices aren't quite as good. The staff is extremely friendly (if not a little tooo friendly sometimes) and they have the best inventory I have ever seen of used classic retro games and accessories. I'll be going there for new and old game purchases. GS sucks. I avoid that place when possible and have been for years. I'd rather go to Walmart.

What pisses me off the most is that they cut hours from stores to the point that only the managers are working, and they barely have enough hours to even keep the store open. They cut customer service in stores in half so they could bring their profits up.

@KenshinSlayer So I guess this means instead of getting 97 hours a week in a high volume store I will have 90 hours to work with.

Our store went from about 150ish hours to about 113 hours and we're one of the top 25 stores in the company. That's the reason I'm leaving in a couple weeks.

Most bad experiences at Gamestop happen because the associates are overworked and underpaid. They probably have a passion for games, but they've also got a laundry list of shit that's got to be done on top of being forced to attempt to give outstanding customer service that they are going to seem like assholes. I know when I started I loved video games and now I only come to Joystiq for information on video games so I can pass it on to associates.

Add all the above onto the fact they every associate is under constant pressure to get those reserves and subs and its no wonder hardcore gamers hate shopping there. Then again, Gamestop isn't really for those people anymore.

Even when I sell games to customers in the GS stores, I get glaring looks from the employes. Because I made them look bad, or something. And after trying to make a good impression the current employes have tenyear, because they aren't accepting new grunts at this time. At least that's what they say.

Correction Joystiq, the Edge card is actually $14.95 and comes with the Game Informer subscription. Surprisingly when I went to preorder Halo Reach I didn't have the guy pushing the card on me, I can only assume he was promptly fired following that transaction.

It was a joke. Yeah, they kind of push those Edge cards on you but I also understand it's their job (they're trained to get customers to purchase the Edge cards). I go to Gamestop all the time for games, I couldn't be bothered to go to Wal-Mart because Gamestop has all the good deals. And if I have a game(s) I want to trade when they are running good deals I go to them.

It was great once they opened a Gamestop in my area instead of having to drive 45 minutes away.

When I went to go buy Mario Galaxy 2, I was asked if I wanted an Edge card, if I wanted to pre-order any other games, if I wanted to buy the strategy guide, and a bunch of other garbage I didn't care about. By the end, I was being so sarcastic that the employee was pissed at me.

Anyways, yeah, buying used games at 10% and selling them at 90% usually does add a bit of extra profit.

I guess im one of the few that actually enjoy my GS store. the people there are honest and knowledgeable. Im usually just there in the summer when the buy 2get1 deals are on. I cant see how someone can complain about that and the fact that you can return a game or accessory within 7 days. yea the trade in is low sometimes. but triple A titles usually fetch around 30-35 which isnt that bad....yea you could get like 50 ebay but i personally dont have the time. its like anything else though most things you buy loses value the same way.
