Overheard @ Gamescom: A development house divided
16
Like many Wii games before it, the upcoming revival of Goldeneye 007 supports a number of different controllers. You'll be able to play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the Classic Controller, a GameCube controller or even the Wii Zapper. But surely one of these myriad methods must be the preferred control scheme among the development team, right?
Well, no, not really. "There's a house divided, at least amongst ourselves," said Activision production coordinator Graham Hagmaier while presenting a demo of the game at Gamescom this week. "A lot of us play with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. I prefer this particular scheme [the Classic Controller], just because I used to play a lot of FPS games on [the Xbox] 360 and PS3, and for a lot of people those are very popular formats. But it just depends on your proficiency with the controller."
The team's proficiency with the Wii Zapper was left unaddressed.

Well I'd prefer to use a golden controller too.

The only way this game can truly be played is through an N64 controller adapter for Wii. Make it happena and that will be Goldeneye for reals.

I'm betting that the Wii Remote and Nunchuk will prove to be the best for the single-player and the solo online, but the Classic Controller will likely prevail for splitcreen multiplayer.

I doubt that... how many people do you think are willing to spend the money on buying 3 extra Classic Pro controllers (or even just classic controllers).
But honestly, who really plays split-screen FPS games anymore? Unless it's co-op (like say, Halo), FPS multiplayer is much better online. Now a game like Super Smash Bros - that's a game 4 people can play on one screen!

its easier (and cheaper) to use Gamecube controlers, because there'd be no need to have the 4 wii remotes connected to the pro classic controllers.
Personaly i play split screen fps's halo etc more than online, so im happy out. theres always more drama when someone shouts SCREEN WATCHER!!! and unplugs the other guys controller

The Wii Classic controller is garbage, well at least the normal one is. Awful D-Pad, dodgy face buttons and it feels like a cheap piece of plastic (which it is). It may have the look of the SNES controller, but it feels nothing like one. Still, it will likely be better than the the ever-so-cumbersome Wiimote & nunchuk, since the FPS's I've played only add frustration to the game.

I'm maybe in a minority but I can play FPS games far easier with the Wii remote than I can with dual control sticks. Playing Halo doesn't feel as natural as playing Metroid Prime if I'm being honest. Different people prefer different things I guess. Mouse and keyboard would probably win except that control stick is better than arrow keys.

Well WASD then which is worse. Maybe I'm being picky but the fact that the W is not directly above the S is a little annoying for me and makes it a little less comfortable than the arrow keys actually. I will sometimes, if the game only needs directions, mouse and maybe 1 or 2 other keys, change the controls so that ctrl and shift are the other buttons so that I can use the arrow keys as it makes it easier to game.

I want to know which control method is the least fun, because I'm sure that's the one Kotick wants me to use.

its nice to have options. i will probably use classic pro, unless the wiimote/nunchuck has a button to shift horizontal stick between strafe and turn, so i dont always have to turn with the wiimote.
