Wasn't he making fun of the Wii in that gif? With the way the Wii lets you simulate large actions with minor flicks of your wrist?

Well I gotta say, the guy in the background playing the Move looks just as gay as those nerds playing Dance Central. What a stupid little trend this motion sensing thing has become, and yet the fanboys are arguing over which one is the least homo at this point. Is it the Wii with its thousands of games of pure shovelware, the Kinect with its absence of any real games for a hardcore audience, or the Move which truthfully just looks like a dildo? I still think it's the Move.

If 2 or more people aren't using the same Kinect peripheral then you CAN have a versus mode over Xbox Live seeing as you won't be hitting somebody else directly.

Would be cool if they made a game that taught you how to fight. (as Just Dance supposedly teaches you how to dance), instead of just letting you flail.

Nerds everywhere would probably be excited if they thought they were learning karate or actual pit fighting or whatever.

(p.s. Pit Fighter: hellloooooo)

Speaking of Kinect, I want to put out my own opinion on this after playing with it at my local mall.

So here we are, my brother and I in a Microsoft Store, digging the "look" of everything. And over in a corner, we see Kinect. An employee stands near the demo area, and we give walk over to get a good taste for MS's new offering. We're first introduced to a bowling minigame. My brother goes first, and with the waggle of his arms he throws the ball to the pins. My turn. I prepare for the shot, and.........it freezes.

Freezes.

I sit there, wondering if it will kick back up. I look over at the employee. She says "Uh...I guess it froze....Do you guys wanna try out Kinect Adventures?"

"Sure", we say. Within the first minute of playing, I'm left with the feeling of being unimpressed. I realize this isn't a finalized version of the hardware, but this technology Microsoft claims to be revolutionary should be able to get over the obstacle of freezing, I would think.

Now for Kinect Adventures.

The title screen pops up. To start, you have to hold your hand up in one position for a couple of seconds, to which the lazy midget inside of me says that this is annoying, just as I thought it would be after seeing that at E3. The first thing my brother and I notice is that the visuals are pretty nice. Colors stand out, so it's definitely not a bad looking game. So now we're ready to go. We're on our raft/boat, speeding down a rushing river past the jungles. One of the first things anyone will notice upon playing Adventures is that this is a pretty unresponsive game. Let me reword that: The movements I make are delayed when going on screen. And this is very apparent throughout the entire course of playing.

Did we have fun with Kinect? Of course. Is this technology ready to be put on the market? Not from Microsoft. Really, they need to make hardware improvements pronto, or this could lead to a product that fails to delivers. Would I pay $150 for this. Absolutely not.

So there you go, my preview of Kinect, which is coming from a hardcore gamer, not a PR spokesperson.

@Shadowbender I've done alot of research on Kinect's hardware/software and how they created it. every Kinect connected to Xbox Live will be able to send data and information about its performance back to Microsoft. Microsoft will probably get a huge amount a data which will then be compared to each other Kinect will be able to make a more accurate decision on what movements you are making.

In short Kinect can learn when connected to Xbox Live and will improve on efficiency and decrease lag time the longer it is used.

I'm a gamer who is cool with things like holding my hand up, so long as there's a good reason why I'm doing so.
Kinect Adventures won't even motivate me to put the disk in the drive.

Pretty much Microsofts first party offerings in the Kinect game department sucks ass, the Dashboard & Interface stuff looks useful enough for me to use - I don't like the green glow of my controller light whilst watching a movie, so I usually turn them off - Kinect is just there so I wouldn't mind just waving to pause (or saying it).

They should just work on improving Kinect as a input (like they have been) because it'll make developing that much easier.

@Shadowbender If you were really a "hardcore" gamer, you would've figured out how to take advantage of the controls. Like if you're in midair after a jump, if you jump again, it'll pull the raft up again. Adults were the ones that actually needed instructions. The little kids just jumped in and were better at controlling the raft.
I think if you're the type to be intimidated by crowds, it's also hard to play well. Like when I went to nightclubs with friends and girls would tell me to move my hips more and I thought I was, but then I looked at myself dancing in a mirror and I barely moved. That's what it's like. The adults would have these tiny leans but they set up the river course to make you move. in the online vids and fallon show, the river doesn't seem to change direction much. but when you're playing it, it seems fast and really moves around. it was like when you first see someone playing DDR and it seems easy. but then you get on it and the arrows seem so fast and you're a half step behind and missing the arrows. you swear that you're hitting the arrows but you're missing.

@Rocketman36

I vaguely remember them saying something like that too, but I may have it mixed up with stuff on Milo. It's still BS, by Microsoft.

I'm sure they'll be collecting data, but it will mostly only go towards a next iteration of Kinect. Even if they can make significant improvements by software alone, they are not likely to have a big overhaul on the system. Not only would that require development time for the Kinect, but they would also have to spend development time on every single game that's out to get it up to date with a major change. The casual audience that they're targeting also won't care about an update, so it wouldn't be worth it to Microsoft.

Besides, if it's not up to par by launch, but you expect that they can improve on it, then you should wait until they do. Don't buy it blindly expecting for something that's unlikely to happen. Improvements don't come magically - Kinect won't just 'learn' automatically when connected to the internet.

Hm, you know, I think you're right about boxing. You're not facing each other anyway, you're both facing forward. You also don't have to move around or anything, you'd mostly stay in the same place, so not much to worry about there. I might be a little worried about kicks though, since they can go a little wild...

Its a bit different with Kinect, The nunchuck has a cable connecting it to the remote, so there's literally only a set distance your arms could reach apart.
And yeah you get to use your feet, which could be trouble with two people.
I won't get into the software differences.

@Banstyle You're not just punching like it Wii boxing you're punching and kicking and headbutting and avoiding hits by moving your whole body. The chance of making contact with one another is exponentially greater with Kinect than it is with Wii.

That being said there are 2-player boxing games in MotionSports, Kinect Sports, and Deca Sports Freedom. I think boxing is going to work really well with Kinect.
