Because they are not Kinect enabled? Kinect has some great possibilities for application in "non-casual"-games. I haven't seen them yet though.

So... you're saying that there's no point in us buying a Kinect?

Just like the Wii-mote proved to be the ultimate golf-game peripheral, Kinect will be the ultimate skiing peripheral. It's just a shame that's all they do.

Even then the balance board was probably better than this...

Way to not read the post.

Frankly, this is exactly what I was waiting for. I'm a huge fan of skiing, but I just hate that sensation you get when you're actually flying down a mountain, the cold wind in your face... Its awful. I can't wait to be stationary, in my living room, bent over.

Sorry but the balance board is surely more accurate than just bending over... It's got to be? lol

Well this certainly won't draw any comparisons to Wii Sports. I look forward to all the games to come that will have photos of people in their living rooms simulating the in-game motions.

This looks like boxing will be really fun with Kinect.

Somewhere millions of people are facepalming at how much of a fail kinect is at present.

"Launching with 15 titles" 15, eh? How many of those appeal to the non-casual?

...

None, you say? Well why would we, as non-casual gamers, pay out $150 except for menu navigation and movie watching...

@Faenix Isn't it much more advantageous for Microsoft to get casual consumers to purchase Xbox? That seems like a pretty big win if they succeed at getting non-gamers and casual gamers to buy Xbox for the first time.

Hardcore gamers already own an Xbox, they buy every new CoD/Halo/Gears/Fable/Forza game, they already subscribe to Live, they purchase additional map packs and levels. I don't see that there is much at all to gain by making Kinect games for hardcore gamers. If Kinect was made for hardcore gamers it would be the Sega Activator or Uforce; casual consumers would have no interest and the Xbox userbase would not expand. Kinect being made for casual gamers makes it like the Wii except much more accessible and easier to understand how to play.

But I want to waggle my arms while playing Halo!

I can't wrap my head around people complaining that this isn't marketed to the "hardcore."

Isn't that the entire problem with the Wii? The only remotely hardcore titles to succeed on it are made by Nintendo. Anything that even attempts an M rating is an instant flop, but hardcore gamers still feel that these waggle boxes were made for them?

Alright! So we've determined that it's not meant for us. Now, we should stop posting news about it on gaming sites. Microsoft should stop saying that they're not ignoring the hardcore with Kinect without actually backing it up with games. And above all, they should stop taking up 2/3 of their gaming conference time with Kinect like at E3. :P

Look, I'm mostly kidding here. But they do keep presenting Kinect to the hardcore audience, and that gives us the right to complain about the fact that they're presenting games we're not interested in. Besides, the Move has nearly the same amount of classical games with support as casual titles, and I appreciate that. Motion controls aren't necessarily exclusively casual.

You know what would be better?

If it was a topless female, and you could tape what the kinect camera sees. :P

Wow... so much hate. I for one am excited about the Kinect. I had a blast playing the Kinect in Canton. This quote, "The experience felt much smoother and more natural than similar games designed for the Wii balance board, which I usually find a bit twitchy in skiing simulations" sums it up nicely for me. Thanks Ryan.

The hardware is there, it's all about the software taking advantage of it. Go Kinect!

The skier representing the woman also doesn't seem to match her stance. They should at least try harder at that in these promo pics.

I worry they're focusing too much on kinect and neglecting the core audience. They lost mass effect and left 4 dead already. Soon there'll be nothing special to the 360 for -real- gamers.

kinect is not being marketed to us non casual gamers...MS feels like they already have us in their pockets by offering us sequels to death.

Usually they'd be releasing a new console right now...graphics look like crap now compared to PC...but only hardcore folks are worried about that... so they go after a market created by nintendo

But little do they know the casual market doesn't care about kinect, why would they buy a new system for something they already have? Casual folks don't have any brand loyalty...

I hope someone develops a new system, to put these folks to shame...until then I'll game on my pc to get the experience I want
