Valve reveals 'The Sacrifice' DLC for L4D1 and 2, digital comic
51
Both Left 4 Dead titles will be getting a new DLC pack -- titled "The Sacrifice" -- in the future. Valve's Chet Faliszek announced as much on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, detailing the DLC's story as an explanation of how the first L4D crew lost a member (during "The Passing") and saying that the content will work across both games. Owners of Left 4 Dead 2 will be able to play as the first game's fearsome foursome and even be able to choose which member of that crew will end up having his or her brains eaten by the horde.
Faliszek also noted that the content will be free -- like usual -- for Steam users, and the series will be arriving on Steam for Mac as well. If that wasn't enough, L4D1's "No Mercy" campaign has been updated for the sequel and will be included with "The Sacrifice" when it ships. Though players will be able to choose which crew member passes in "The Sacrifice," a 150-page, four part digital comic details events leading up to the new DLC will have a more definitive finale which will effect the future content for the series (we can't be more specific without spoiling "The Passing"). Faliszek didn't give a price or a release window on the show, but he did admit that this "is not the end, we're gonna continue going" with future content for the series.
Update: According to an interview with PC Gamer (via Shacknews), it seems "The Sacrifice" will be available (at least on PC) as of October 5 for free, though it will cost 560 MS Points ($7) on Xbox 360. We've reached out to Valve for clarification on the release date for 360 and Mac.

Or better yet, think of it as half paying for your DLC, and half paying for me so I can have the DLC! :D

I didn't play much L4D1, so with No Mercy included it's like two new campaigns for me, I'll happily pay for that.

it's about time the mutation stuff is cool but what people want is new areas to kill things, at least people on the PC dont have to worry about that tho thanks to the mods

I love Valve, but they really haven't impressed me much in terms of making good on DLC for L4D2. One map pack in almost a year isn't nearly enough - I would've sank big $$$ into the 360 version if they gave us 4 or 5 map packs by now.

Invest in a pc and the dlc is free. Goes for TF2 and everything else Valve makes. Oh yeah, and the copious updates and tweaks that are constantly put out... And the free games such as Portal and Alien Swarm.

Actually, for making a map and such it is. They don't make new models for buildings, or much of anything. It's just simple mapping, which they leave tons wrong with their maps that get shipped with the game. See L4D1's campaign where you're in the sewers. That light's nowhere near the wall. Along with tons of stuff. In L4D2 they also lazied out with those invisible walls where they put some on stuff you're suppose to climb for being infected, and spots that make the hunter useful.
Fun game, but their maps aren't great.

yes, I realize it takes "time", but a year is enough for more than 1 map. I was expecting a crapload of maps for L4D2. They are doing great with mutations and keeping the gave alive - I just wish they would whore out the maps!

@quiggy I'm waiting for it too. Heck I bought it for $10 when it was on sale thinking it would come out soon. Oh well at least the game is paid for when it comes out, not to mention the free dlc.

I'm not sure i understand what it means when they say No Mercy will be updated when it ships, does it mean theyre gonna change it like they did the ending of Portal or something?

That would be cool if they made a L4D that had a real single player campaign. Not just four levels with little plot. I don't have many friends who play games, and coop sucks if people don't play as a team.

@spacemonkey086 i don't have too many actual friends that play L4D but i've made a bunch just by playing a lot. the one player isn't fantastic. the mutiplayer is where it really shines.
