More because of diversity than excellence, i would say. How do you convince someone who values online multiplayer that Galaxy 2 is better than Red Dead or Halo Reach? How do you convince someone that loves story that Gran Turismo 5 should beat Mass Effect 2?

Overall GOTY is going to be impossible this year.

Hey Joystiq, guess what's out next month and was very impressive at Gamescom?

That's right. F1 2010. Yet you guys haven't mentioned it AT ALL so far!

I bet it plays better than GT5.

I highly doubt F1 2010 will be better. GT5 has WAY more care put into it and has more content. Agreed, it is impressive, but it's not anywhere near GT5 on terms of content (in my opinion)

"" bet it plays better than GT5."

Nice troll and all, but it won't play as well as GT5. GT is simply an excellent series. The F1 game doesn't appear to have any legacy... might be good too, but they haven't built their brand at all and your claim doesn't appear to be based on anything but some psychological phenomenon going on in your head.

Just get over it already. Console war is over. PS3 won. Go get one and get one of the real games of this generation.

@Dustin F uhh, F1 2010 IS a PS3 game.

As for the argument that GT5 will have more content? So what? GT2 had more cars than any driving game (to date?). Did that make it fun to play? No.

The GT games are great for people who love looking at cars. Hell, I'm one of them. However, when I sit down with racing games I want to play games that are FUN, not just pretty. Codemasters has a long history of making racing games that are fun. Polyphony Digital's game was great the first time around. They've done so little to improve on it though that I'm not sure that simply adding cars is enough to warrant the price tag.

We'll see come November, but in the mean time, why not buy F1 2010? You might just have fun.

Joanna, you shouldn't lie so much. That's a multiconsole game. You're pushing it, with no actual fact based points, to bash one of the greatest exclusives of this generation.

Why bother? The console war is over. If you really think your 360 is the right one for you, be my guess. The rest of the world seems to be preferring the PS3. With exclusives like GT5, it's not hard to figure out why, and if the best you can do is this, I don't think Sony is all that worried.

I have no doubt that GT5 will be better and sell better than an F1 game, however I don't quite understand the whole "the console war is over- the PS3 won" argument. First off, what the heck does that have to do with anything? Secondly, the PS3 is still in last place in terms of overall sales worldwide and Sony is in a HUGE financial hole as a company. I'm not sure which part of that translates as winning...

Who better to vote on the best games at a show than the ones receiving all the swag, getting directions from beautiful booth babes, and getting invited to exclusive after parties?

And yes, I'm mad that LBP2 didn't receive anything at this event, too!

I do think they were wrong though, Kinect should have won best hardware. After all with all of its amazing sensors, its ability to act like a mocap system for a fraction of the price and its radical designs and the motorised tilt its this good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTtGM0_op9A

Another example of Kinects accuracy.. Watch the end result after that performance 4 out of 5 Hella good ?

It should have won because you can tell from all of the demos shown so far it is a technical marvel an incredible feat of engineering, Who could believe you could get this level of accuracy this insane fidelity from just a camera system that sits under your TV.. True Motion Capture capability in our Living Room Folks...

If you still believe the marketing behind Kinect . I have this really great suite made out of invisble thread, seriously its so amazing. Just send me a million dollars through paypal and I will post it to you with great haste , its so amazing you wont even feel it, you will be the envy of all of your friends.. I don't get the 'better mix' crap at all. Who is Joystiq to tell others what 'mix' of judges is right?

It's strange indeed. I know I wouldn't want to have Joystiq editors involved with my judging organization... they very well might give the prize to some pirating device. They certainly are not very good friends to gamers or devs, that's just a fact.

If you don't like Japanese stuff, just say it. Don't bash good reviews and judges when they put their efforts forward.

Yeah, I thought it was really odd sounding. Almost troll-like. I wonder if European games press feel the same way about E3 Awards.

Considering what was shown at Gamescom this year I don't really see much wrong with that list. Sony brought the big guns and it shows. Microsoft was kind of quiet this year and it shows. Nintendo was also kind of quiet and it shows.

Given the showings of the big 3 at E3 2010 and Gamescom this past week I'm beginning wonder which company is going to make it to their proposed 10 year life span.

well this is a European event- and they often have differing tastes than North Americans. and we already know that a lot of major publishers backed out at the last minute- so i don't see what's so offensive about GT5 winning 2 major awards. Would Joystiq have preferred to see Halo:Reach win all the awards? this kind of thing happens all the time- one popular game takes home all the big awards. happens at most major award shows. but maybe this new Gran Turismo is just that good... i won't know for myself until November, but i'm getting pretty excited.

Games should have to ship before they can be best of. E3 is the worst example of this, regularly giving awards to games that aren't even publicly demoed.

Wanted to add more so this doesn't look like a troll, but that says it all for me. There's no way I could justify paying for a racing game.

@pokeystaples I seem to recall buying a racing game from the used bin at some point... might have been Project Gotham Racing 2. I had one of the old GT series on my ancient PS2, and some racers on the Dreamcast. These days, I would only play games like that if they came bundled with the console...

Yes, I am biased.

Can you explain what you mean, though? The amount of content, detail, and precision is impressive. You're getting a really good value for your dollar, compared against games with plot (not that I don't like those too).

You seem to be saying that these games are primitive. I think that's ridiculous, and this area shows more advancement than others. Flight sims are an area that need some advancement, but racing is amazing lately.

Perhaps that's what you're saying, though. Games like Blur are a lot of fun and I think a lot of GT4 players would rather play an arcade action game like that than GT5. I think GT5 will be awesome, but if that's what you mean I understand.

One thing I find ridiculous is the near vaporware delay this game has seen.

@Dustin F On your last point - yes! I don't follow the genre and I don't own a PS3, so I thought GT5 had been out for a year or two because I've heard so much about it.

Maybe you are onto something when you talk about the realism vs arcade thing, too. I see racing games as something fun to drop in and play, but not something I would play for hours. They are the ultimate casual games. As a result, I might not fully appreciate realism and it might even be an impediment.

I realize that a lot of people love racers, and I accept that as long as they accept that I prefer other types of games.

I get what you're saying, as I've often heard the same thing about fighting games...while the criticism is understandable (all you really do in fighting games is fight, maybe customize, maybe progress through a story, hit Edit > Find and Replace for "racing games"), the fact that fighting games are what I play mostly is obviously gonna boost the genre's worth to me and a few others like me...whereas we couldn't really justify paying full-price for another genre...
