MotorStorm 3D Rift tears up PSN tomorrow (with 2D support)
41
If you're one of what must be millions of PS3 owners who have already dropped three large on a Bravia 3DTV, you've already experienced a small taste of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in 3D as part of the demo pack Sony gave you. Good news for you: The experience doesn't end there. As part of tomorrow's PlayStation Store update, Sony is making MotorStorm 3D Rift available, a more substantial 3D-ified release of the game featuring 10 courses, each linked to a specific event type. Unfortunately, there's no multiplayer (online or off), but at least it'll run on those old-fashioned 2D televisions, too -- like anyone uses those anymore!
The price of admission for this thrill ride: $10. The price of the game running in 3D: 30 frames per second.

It would be millions if Sony supported older 3D TVs and projectors (older as in 2007-2009). Tons of DLP sets have had 3D support for years. Even a few mid-range plasmas supported it.

The '(with 2D support)' part made me chuckle. Usually the 'in 3D!' part comes after, but it's like they're pandering to the tiny, tiny minority with the first part, then just kind of wave their hand and add with an exasperated voice, "Oh, alright, the rest of you can come too..."

I don't understand why can't you use the glasses ?or can you use the glasses? ( if you just have a normal hd tv)

Because your normal HDTV doesn't have a shutter frame 3D mode.

Well actually, just about any decent TV should be able to display the 3D image. A 60Hz TV would be limited to 30hz per image while a 240Hz should theoretically be able to do 120Hz 3D.
You'd have to turn off settings that are designed to make the picture 'Look better' Like Motion flow, but that's not the real thing holding regular tvs from displaying 3D images, it's the problem of synchronizing the shutter with the screen.
Anybody who has played with shutter 3D Tech via NVidia knows it'll work on just about any screen with a decent refresh rate.

I appreciate the further explanation. That is essentially what I meant by saying a normal hdtv doesn't have shutter frame 3D mode.

How many 3dTV owners are NOT buying this, since they already own the game?
I'm not paying for what should be a patch.

Why should it just be a patch? I never owned a motorstorm game and if there wasn't 3D demo of it I probably never would have played it. But I did play it and it turned out to be a lot of fun, especially in 3D so I will gladly hand over $10 for something more in depth than the demo.

I'm not buying it because my 3D projector isn't supported by the PS3. :\

@golfs4panzys You think $10 for a glorified demo is worth it? People like you are the reason gamers get screwed over.

People like me? I guess that means people who understand economics and don't have a selfish and ignorant false sense of self-entitlement.
Gamers get screwed over? Oh dear... I hope you are young. Otherwise, the school system has failed you.

finally, all i ever read is hate... Willing to buy a decent one when they reach the $900-$1000 mark. I can see 3D just fine, No headaches, Have $... i would kill for Fallout in 3D. The one part we can agree on is the eye pieces are overpriced and there must be some kind of universal code, or just get rid of the glasses.

I'm a 3D fan too. I have it via 3D Vision and it's one hell of a way to immerse yourself in a game. Waiting to upgrade my 3D projector to one that is compatible with 3D on PS3....

I've heard that all of the shutter frame glasses are compatible with each other. i.e. the Sony glasses work with a Samsung TV and vice-versa. I've never actually tried this myself though, it is just what I've heard.

Since it is a stand alone game it should be required to have trophies. Even if they were the same from the original game, they should be separate.

Of any 3D experience I've had with my 3DTV, the Pacific Rift was easily the best. Will be getting this if not for just having some excuse to actually use the 3D function of my tv.

I'm living in Japan and when I've visited the large electronics retailiers to check out the 3DTV's, the demonstration units are often lined up next to one another and you're able to look at a Panasonic TV with Sony's 3D glasses and the image seems fine. So, I think you may be right about one manufacturer's glasses working with another's TV.
And thanks for putting mywhitenoise in his place. I'm sick of people crying foul when nothing wrong has been done to them.
Sony is giving you the choice to buy the game at $10 - you're not obliged to.

I just got my Samsung 50" Plasma 3DTV this weekend from Best Buy. They had the TV, 4 glasses, Monsters Vs. Aliens in 3D, with 4 glasses for $1649. How could I saw no. I've downloaded every piece of content (minus PAIN) I could. This seems like an awesome deal as I liked the 3D demo of MotorStorm. I can't wait to play it. I was leery about 3D and wearing glasses, but I find it to be a non-issue, at least for the amounts of time I using the glasses. Does anyone know when the store is usually updated? Thanks.

@chris2sy Do you know what the best setting for the 3D display in Avatar should be. I have a Samsung PN507000. I did side-by-side, and turned 3D on my TV to side-by-side. For the most part it works, but sometimes people/objects in the game are shifted, like there is a ghost image or something. Do you know about this, and how to make it stop? I picked up MS:3D by the way, and I like it. I just wish things flew at me more.

I think I had to put mine on Side by side (I have a Bravia and its a little different maybe) and also turn the depth of field effect or what ever that setting is to either 1.25 or 1.5. I toyed with that part ot get it right. I sit less that 10 feet away (more like 6) and directly in front of it when I'm playing though. I was embarrassed by this whole part because I was putting it on side by side at first, and forgetting to turn the 3D on manually in the TV settings and then forgetting to turn my glasses on...duh. But it sounds like you may have to move the depth setting to where its better for you between 1 and 2 on the game options/settings (I don't recall if it goes to 3 I think only 2). Hope that helps.
