4GB Xbox 360 arrives in Japan on Sept. 9

Microsoft is launching its cheaper 4GB XBox 360 S in Japan on September 9. It'll sell for the same ¥19,800 ($235) price as the original Arcade system, and will come packed with a wireless controller, AV cables and an AC adapter. No big surprises. It makes even more sense to have a cheaper Xbox bundle in Japan than it does here, since Microsoft has to do something to try to sell some of these.

What is a bit more surprising, considering the stealth launch of the accessory in America, is that Microsoft officially announced a separate 250GB hard drive for Japan at the same time. The ¥15,540 ($184) price is a good indicator that people should seriously just buy the 250GB Xbox 360 bundle.

I Agree.

I don't see how this new SKU is going to change anything in Japan. They need more compelling software for Japanese gamers. Hell, they need more compelling software for ALL gamers.

You mean cheaper than here? I could have sworn that the Arcade here was $200... Unless there's more in this bundle than I'm aware of?

I still can't believe the cheap unit has Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi module is clearly meant to be removable, it's at the top of the unit and held in place by a single screw.

I mean, I'm glad they include it, I just can't believe they didn't yank it out to save a buck.

That's why you should drop console gaming.

Everyone knows the 360 doesn't sell in Japan because they hate American stuff. They just don't realize that iPods, Levis, Coke and American movies are American products. It isn't because the games for the 360 don't reflect Japanese tastes. If someone doesn't have the same tastes as me, there must be something blocking their ability to see how cool it is.

@Aguiluz 4GB is enough for game saves. The people who are buying this SKU are obviously not going to be installing games and downloading massively. Typical hardcore gamer thinking EVERYTHING is marketed towards him.

That's a list of mostly exclusive PC games. About 20 on there are on consoles. The other 500 are not.

41 million Xbox's sold, but only 13 million people who subscribe to Xbox Live gold. Do the math, why should most people buy the 250GB version when fewer than half even connect Xbox 360 to the Internet?

This is yet another example of hardcore gamers being unable to see or understand the world beyond their niche.

i played God of War 3, Infamous, Rock Band, Red Dead Redemtion and Uncharted 2 this past month or so... don't need to show me some pathetic link with PC games that i'm not even interested in. I'm already playing the games i want to play.

I've never understood the appeal of re-buying a console everytime a new iteration comes out...something that alot of 360 owners seem to do obsessively.

Guys got too much money or something?

I may just snag a 4gb bundle and a family gold pack
