This is worse than Ubisoft offering me a warranty for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on PSN.

From the way I read it, it said something like "extends the warranty two years beyond the original." Which would mean that for people like me with launch PS3s what is the point? I've been trying to find a way to fix the browser freeze fault in my PS3 forever, without them "unfortunately" misplacing it and sending me a PS3 that isn't backwards compatible!

@KobaltKode The Playstation 3 browser is a joke anyway. I was hoping it'd come in handy for showing my mates YouTube videos in the lounge but it wouldn't even do that without screwing up.

@KobaltKode It's useless to anyone who bought their PS3 over a year ago, anyway.
Fine print states that you must have purchased your PS3 within the past year to be eligible for the warranty.
Bad thing is, Sony requires Proof of Purchase when you file a warranty claim, and doesn't check Proof of Purchase until you're ready to file a claim.
So there _will_ be people buying these plans from their consoles just to find out they wasted their money when they have to submit a proof of purchase if they actually DO need to file a warranty claim.

@moogleboi

I haven't encountered too many of these issues (on youtube). Just make sure you clear out the cache before each movie/page load.

I will say though the quality is shit on a 40"+ screen.

@moogleboi I wish their sorry excuse for a browser could have been built on standardised Webkit or Mozilla instead of some own stupid code!

Pricing like this (i.e. double the amount of time for 25% more money) is ridiculous. It's a pricing tactic that I see everywhere these days and I lose respect for any business that does it.

They want you to think that you are getting a "discount" for buying more at once but in reality, you're just paying a premium for NOT purchasing the highest amount.

It pretty much forces the customer to think, "Hey, why pay $44.99 for one year when I get get DOUBLE that for ONLY 25% more!"

As a consumer, that's not how I would like things.

Im surprised you guys havnt done a story on how PS+ is a failure, at least at this point. Sony could really have had something special, but like usual they don't really know how to do it the right way or what even the consumers want.

PS+ subscribers have for the most part (95% IMO) has been really old games, which most hardcore gamers would have already bought long ago when they came out. Why would anyone be interested in subscribing to a service that just offers free games that were released years ago and probably have already bought. Add to the fact that a lot of the other stuff that they are giving away with PS+ is little stuff not many people want.

If you look on the main forums there are a lot of people regretting buying PS+. I was almost one of those people myself, but i waited to see what the content was for the first month, and when i saw the first months free stuff was games and dlc i already bought, there was no reason for me to want to buy PS+. sadly, still to this day nothing on PS+ has been of any interest to me.

It really makes me wonder who Sony puts in charge of making the decisions of what content goes up on PS+. I really think its the same people they have in charge of content for firmware updates. For the most part just useless stuff most of the community does not want.

@Bronxchulo.

Ermm I completely disagree with you man. Let's break it down logically.

For the new owner, you get a tonne of games for free, FAR more than the amount you paid for yearly. Obvious win for new buyers.

For the owner who buys games moderately and has a few games, you get pretty good value. Maybe you luck out and get games you already have, but for instance EU subscribers get Sam and Max next month. That's come out like what, in the last 3-6 months? Great content, and it almost pays for the subcription itself. I think within 12 months you would win unless you have terrible luck.

Lastly, the owner who buys games heavily and owns everything has way too much cash. I've bought and completed well over 50 PSN games and still find tonnes of games I haven't played in PSN +. If you find nothing in there, then you spend WAY too much money and buying a subscription shouldn't matter anyway.

All in all, besides the heavy heavy buyer of games as a new to moderate owner of the console I think you get a pretty awesome deal.

@PhilipJWitow Mayhaps you are right, however paying for this alleged premium that now has been pushed to a biweekly update just doesnt seem worth it.

@Bronxchulo They would probably do a story on how PS+ is a failure....

.....if it WAS a failure, which it isn't.

Sorry hoss. I don't like Justin Bieber and the product he offers, but that doesn't mean he's a failure. There are plenty of people who have subscribed to PS+ and are enjoying the benefits, and Sony gets another source of income.

If you don't like it, that's fine, but.. the world doesn't revolve around you, I'm sorry to say.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze

You are out of your mind. PS+ is a joke both online and within the PSN community. The stuff they have offered is crap, absolute crap, stuff nobody wants, the updates, just a month or so after its release, are becoming less frequent, so really, at the end of the day, just what are people paying for? I'm just glad I signed up for the 3 month rather than the year because there is no way in hell I am paying for this junk anymore.

@jblank Sorry, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

I never bought WIpeoutHD, and haven't played a lot of PSN games...maybe 4 or 5 like Bionic Commando, Megaman, the new 1942, a few PS1 games, etc.

For me, its been a great deal....I actually just beat critter crunch the other day, which was more fun than I expected.

If you have dozens of PSN games already purchased, then the bottom line is you were an idiot for buying the damn thing.

Thats a really good deal though. The cost to repair a PS3 is brutally expensive ($170 vs. $299 to just get a new one)

$45 for two year warranty is a pretty awesome deal. If only it were available before my ps3 broke a couple months ago....

If this was in fact a repair of the same unit you sent in, then that's not a bad deal; you just have to deal with the long turn-around time.

If they just simply swap it out for a refurb unit, then that's shit.

I'm holding onto my 60gig BC unit for as long as possible.

Sony if you're reading this. I'd get playstation plus if you gave everyone who has it 2 15% off codes to use in store on brand new games of our choice. That would be awesome of you.

It would be nice if they offered some of that cloud storage (?) so that if something were to happen to my console, all of my saves could be brought back with ease. And before someone says, "You don't know how to use a USB drive?!@#", not all of my game saves work with one.

My PSN account recently got hacked and someone used my credit card to buy $150 of PSN crap. I've never shared passwords, consoles, or even had friends play my PS3 (sadly, other adults aren't too keen on wanting to play when they are over...). Sony didn't do shit except insinuate it was my fault w/out outright saying it. They didn't offer anything except to kill my account. No way I'm paying them for PSN+. In fact, I'm never putting a CC back on file again.

Wow...yet, this would never apply to my 60gig ps3 which is sporting a sweet YLOD...with sony's ..."excellent" support...I've learned how much fun my xbox was. Still miss the ol ps3...thinin of sending it to gophermod...still thinkin about it.

I definitely recommend sending it to gophermods. I sent mine there and had it back within a week back in working condition and with my game that got stuck in the disk drive. They also won't wipe your HDD as long as your problem has nothing to do with it, which my YLOD didn't.
