They've been doing this in Canada for quite some time now and I've noticed trade in values tend to be higher than what you get at gamestop.

It isn't at all locations though so you've gotta check the canadian best buy site for which ones do it (my local best buy doesn't accept them).

their trade-in prices are *MUCH* better than EB's. keep an eye out especially for when they run promotions; i was able to trade in MW2 for $45 when EB was already only giving $30 for it in the spring.

@Jcouto In Edmonton, they've already stopped doing the used game trade-in program. It's funny how they already tried and had the program fail in Canada, but are implementing it in the States anyways.
It's not like the program wasn't successful for Canada-specific reasons. It failed because they had the same prices as EB/Gamespot, but way less selection.

Competition is not just good .... it's GREAT! Best Buy AND Target will force GameStop to step their game up. I trade my games through Amazon for free shipping and higher credit, plus I can use the credit for whatever I want on their site. I do recommend Amazon, but this news of BB and Target doing their trade-in system is awesome. I especially like Target b/c it just doesn't apply to only games (although I have yet to experience the service of their new system).

Now, let's see how GameStop fires back ..... they are no longer top dog once this thing gets rollin'.

I'd be more concerned with how publishers react then gamestop.

Haha, $8 for ME2? I would gladly pay someone 10 whole dollar bills for their copy instead.

I think that's the point. They buy for $8, sell for $10, make $2 profit.

@aristokrat It's more likely that they buy it for 10, then sell it for 35

GameStop, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy will be trading used games by the end of the year. Publishers like EA and THQ are cracking down on used game buyers and trying to shut them out of in-game functionality. An epic war for the used game buyer's very soul is brewing!!!

So they are taking trades but not selling them.. yet? Maybe Best Buy acquired a used game-eating beast that they must feed.

They've actually been doing trade-ins for quite a while now. I did my first trade-in with them a year ago.

I noticed something interesting in the fine print.

Eligibility for In-store Trade-in:
You must be at least 18 years old.
You must have a valid Best Buy Receipt; or if you don't have one, we'll make every effort to locate it for you. Only the original purchaser is eligible to participate in the In-store Trade-in program.
A government-issued photo ID is required.

So if you don't have the receipt or bought the game from somewhere else, you can only use the mail service, not the in store option. Strange.

Trade in prices seem pretty horrible from the couple dozen I've checked so far. Except for some of the more popular Wii games I think you're better off with Amazon or GameStop or just selling them yourself.

So true...

I very (very) rarely ever 'trade' any of games in b/c you'll never truly get even a fraction of the value you think you should. You just as well take the small extra effort you can put it up on Ebay (or Amazon marketplace, for that matter) and pocket a better profit for yourself.

Best Buy has actually had their online trading service up for a while. Maybe it has been successful enough to warrant putting it in stores.

Wow, this could be a hell of a blow to Gamestop. I know for me personally, the nearest Gamestop and the nearest Best Buy are at the same shopping center, and given the choice between trading in a game at Gamestop, where I can get credit toward other games, and trading it in at Best Buy, where I can get credit towards DVDs, hardware, or pretty much anything else - and where I also have a membership program that grants me coupons based on my purchases - the choice is pretty clear-cut. The only question is the comparison in trade-in value between both stores, and right now it looks like if it wants to maintain any sort of edge over Best Buy (and all these other retailers entering the used game market), Gamestop will have to start offering more for trade-ins, or else coming up with some significant incentives.

Wow, ICO is going for $20.00, but I don't think I'd be able to part ways with my copy. Not until the HD version has been confirmed, at least. Eh, still probably not.
