Saw this at E3 and it looked AMAZING!! Kinda disappointed this game hasn't been getting the attention I think it deserves. From what I saw at E3 it was everything I want from a new Castlevania game. Definitely picking this up,

Good read. Glad to see a more lengthy action oriented game. Can't wait to fight those SotC inspired boss battles. IGN has a preview of the first 8 hours if people care to look. :)

Nope. I liked the PS2 games also. I think we're a rare breed though.

Well, the only 3D Castlevania I played was the one on the N64 and from what I remember, I think I actually liked it.

It sounds like the controls are laid out how they should be, unlike another Japanese game of this type, Bayonetta, which I liked, but kept shooting instead of using the basic attack, because of the stupid control layout.

Can't wait for more Castlevania, there's so little coming up that I want, but this is definitely one.

Then uh, get the game. They are many great games out there, but then there are games like SotC. You are missing out on a great peice of gaming history by not playing this.

Agreed, you'll be a better person for having played it, hahaha!
SotC is easily one of my all time favorites. Of course, you could always hold off for the HD remix that we all hope Sony will be officially announcing soon.

They lost me at GoW like Gameplay. I just can't like it. Dante's Inferno lost me with it too. Ugh... It looked real good too. I might rent it at least.

I am still cautiously optimistic about this one. I *personally* would prefer it to be a lot of Shadow of the Colossus, and less GOW. God of War is awesome for what it is. But I'm seriously tired of so many games trying to cop it. And, I'm sure I'm alone here, but I would REALLY love this game to have a gore filter! Don't get me wrong, when I'm playing by myself, I think Gears of War style gore can be pretty funny and entertaining. But the gore/language filter on that game is excellent, and actually made it possible to hang out w/ my 10 year old while playing it. Gaming is something that I enjoy sharing with my family. But, I have personally noticed how gratuitous gore can desensitize my kids (in a negative way). And my wife just hates seeing it.
So anyway,
- no filter = I'll be waiting till this drops to about $20, and I'll just play it by myself.
- filter option = day one purchase that'll let the rest of my fam enjoy the incredible art direction and (hopefully) great character designs with me

But this is Castlevania! The game where you kill a dude and he either explodes(!), or explodes in a massive pool of blood!

@hkfooie why do people always talk about clones in every game now? GoW clone.. Monster Hunter clone... And for you guys who dont know whats a hack N slash game is wikipedia it and stop calling it a clone.

I know, I know. You're totally right. But I can hope. Besides, who would've thought Gears of War (with gore being a big part of that game) would have a filter? :-)
But then I don't know of any other Konami games that have filters. Oh well. :*(

When a game looks like another game, has a similar story line, has the exact same control layout, same magic, system, same health system, same bosses and same puzzles.. Then you can call it a clone... or if you prefer, you can call it Dante's Inferno. ;) I might rent this - I've had my fill of GOW games this year by playing the HD remixes and #3. Awesome games but I need a breather and there are so many other great games coming out!

"Come back later when your skills have improved," an on-screen message will say of certain areas that require a specific power.

That sounds sort of arbitrary and unsubtle.

I'm kind of on the fence about this game, but you certainly make it sound tempting, Joystiq. Not sure if I'll have money left over to buy it by the time I get my hands on Vanquish, Super Scribblenauts, and Red Dead Redemption, though.

Oh God yes. I was so afraid this wouldn't turn out to be a good game, but apparently MercurySteam and good ol' Kojima came through. Castlevania is one of my absolute favorite game franchises ever since I played Castlevania 1 back in 1986, this is truly joyful news.

And am I the only one seeing how old-school franchises have been on a roll lately? Castlevania, Megaman, Street Fighter, Marvel VS Capcom(God, Capcom, I love you SO much right now!)... It's great to see that game companies have not forgotten their classics nor the fans of those franchises :-)

That's so good to hear that it feels and plays like a Castlevania game. That was my biggest concern with the game - that there'd be nothing to set it apart from the other action adventure games out there.

Backtracking to old areas with new powers? YES. Normally I had backtracking, but in Castlevania it's just fun.

I can't effing wait for this game. With God of War and Shadow of the Colossus gameplay, there's no way this game can disappoint. I also can't wait to hear the soundtrack for the game, because in my opinion, Castlevania games have some of the best music. Day 1 purchase for sure.

I just hope this game doesn't bastardize the Castlevania games by being a game akin to Onimusha (or the popular God of War comparisons) and sticks to the roots. It'd be awesome if one of the DLC will be a dungeon entirely with side-scrolling gameplay, like old-school Castlevania, or like SotN.

You know where they had me? Grappling hook platforming...sounds like the team behind the Bionic Commando remake could have taken some lessons from them. I remember being excited (and then disappointed) by the other 3D Castlevania attempts...but this one sounds like it'll be a keeper.
