Peripheral Vision is the name of our ongoing sporadic journey into the wonderful, oft-terrifying world of third-party peripherals. Today we've got two new, surprisingly great controllers from Power A, the Pro Elite Wireless for PS3 and the Pro Pack Mini for Wii. Enjoy.

@MizzDiva The PS3 controller actually looks pretty appealing to me. Some games while I play them make me wish "Dammit, I wish the controller looked like a 360 one" such as first person shooters. I might just pick this one up.

@MizzDiva Well, that explains it right there! That's really the only genre where I prefer the 360 controller, honestly. Otherwise, the Dualshock is just fine.

Exactly my thinking. I only handled an Xbox controller (360 and original) maybe like a handful of times and it completely felt awkward and uncomfortable for me. I mean, I suppose it has it's good purposes but I would assume that would largely be for the shooter crowd.

You're wrong there.
The xbox controller is ergonomically more correct then a PS3 controller.
So you'll be getting carpel from it not your 360s.
Also I dono where you got your normal range of movement facts from, but it's well within the range of my thumbs normal movements.

Oh dear, you activated a fan-boy.
I feel the same about the 360's controller as you do, other people enjoy it - and I understand why - but I prefer my Dual Shock 3... 360 controller is extremely awkward after going from the Dual Shock and it's hard to adapt back.
That said, the 360's controller is a hell of a lot better than the original Xbox's. I loathed that controller.

Threaded grip is nice....not sure if I I'd like the 360 button placement though.

The PS3 uses bluetooth so I don't understand why all these 3rd party controllers always require a dongle. I love the dualshock, but there have been a few 3rd party controllers I wouldn't mind trying.

Oh hell yeah! I've seen the Afterglow ones for the PS3 too and it looks absolutely wack. It's like they barely tried to make it look anything similar to the original Sony controller. If any thing it looks EXACTLY like Afterglow's 360 one--only uglier....

The smaller one feels more natural? the Wiimote fills my hand nicely.. though I wouldn't mind, slightly bigger hands.. I do find it a stretch going from A to up on the d-pad, and a pull reaching the 2..
Isn't the dual shock 3 bigger than the original one for the PSone, that one used to mess up my knuckles, but the '3' doesn't.. the curved up L2 & R2 look nice on the Power A

I'm sitting here thinking "Why the hell would I want a PS3 controller with the awful controls of a 360 controller, it just doesn't make any sense!" Not to mention that one of the biggest flaws of the 360 controller is the position of the D-Pad, so to intentionally put it where it is on this controller is simply negligence. Anyway, I will certainly not be purchasing either of these (if I had a Wii I would consider the Wii one, but until then...)

"which...pssh...sold!" LOL
Nice video. I have been looking at that controller for a while and will proabably pick one up. I have 4 Dualshock 3's (all with real triggers!) but I have wanted one with the concave joysticks for a while now, and the stick placement of the 360 as well.

Why are the analog sticks in the wrong place? Also the dpad doesn't looks as nice as the DS3

Finally! No more thumb-bumping. When the two analog sticks are in the middle, whenever I move right and turn left....BAM! Maybe I can get through Killzone 2 now without wanting to throw the controller.
Loved the dualshock...on the PS1. Two generations later, it's time for an upgrade. Shame on us for bagging on the boomerang controller. I bought the PS2 psyclone boomerang on clearance and to my surprise it had a great feel. But this one appears like a good alternative :)
That Wii controller looks like a must as well; I don't care for the feel of the stock Wii Remote; it feels over-sized and heavier than it should. The nunchuk is fine other than the wire to me.

Love that PS3 controller! Pre-ordered on Amazon just now. I no longer have any misgivings about playing Black Ops on PS3 this fall.

@Vcize
Racing: d-pad
Sport: Analog stick
But I dont mind at all the analog stick of the DS3, its only for FPS that I find appeling the 360 controllores (but still dont minded much), maybe thats because the fast track gaming style of FPS, I really dont know preciscly.......But thats my case.

I've keeping an eye on the PS3 Pro Elite and will probably buy it. I was hoping the review would contain some info about playing FPSes as I tend to stick with my 360 for them because the controller.
