Well, it has a more interesting then Kinect, but ill wait on it until I hear how well its implemented. If its just an after thought on game like Socom and KZ3, may as well spend the 100 odd bucks on a few games.

I'm going to assume you meant "more interesting software lineup"

Which I'd mostly agree with.

@Faceless Troll

This is true, they have used a Wii, and if they are like me, they rejected the Wiimote because it's not a very precise controller at all. They know about the idea of moving a stick around, but they also associate this with Wii boxing fake control.

Once word of mouth spreads about the performance of Socom 4 type experiences, I think that could be a big chance in opinion among hard core gamers about this kind of control.

it's like telling people they already understand what a Ferrari is because they probably have ridden in a school bus. No... not really.

Also, with the Eye camera, the Move can incorporate Eyetoy style gaming, and to some extent, Kinietzt gaming. It's capable to much more precise 3D tracking than Kiniecth simply based on the pixel quality and the size of the Move's sphere.

It's a better control system than either of the either ones, even though it's very similar to both a wand motion control and a camera tracking control.

As many have said, the real word of mouth will be based on the games. I'm biased, I admit, but I think Sony has a winner on their hands if they don't screw up the marketing. Without being obnoxious about it, they need to get the message out there that this is like a wiimote, but with real precision. Show Socom 4 gameplay, etc.

@Dustin F Very well said!!!

But I will have to say that with the Wii MotionPlus, the Wii Remote has improved significantly. The main problem is the actual games. Nintendo did a great job with their improvement of the Wii Remote but the Wii as well as the DS have a big issue with shovel ware and other games not aimed at serious gamers.
Personally, I am not planning on getting the Move day one simply because I already have a Wii and I never play it. But when awesome games release like another Time Crisis, Killzone, Little Big Planet 2 and as you already mentioned Socom 4 (hopefully another House of The Dead too!), I will probably eventually pick it up.

I would also like to just say that the Playstation Eye did not do well so I don't see the Kinect doing much better... Playstation Move ftw!

@ExDogma The Playstation Eye was a failure because it had practically zero marketing behind it. So I don't think you can really compare it to the Kinect that way.

@Faceless Troll This is correct. It's now 2010, and there haven't been any new games that heavily use the Eye since its launch in 2007. In the interim there has been LBP which barely utilized the Eye, and now GT5 which uses it for head tracking.

What's interesting is how the Eye, when used without Move, has most of Kinect's capabilities aside from depth perception.

As a whole I wish third party developers would explore ways that these cameras can enhance gameplay. But of course they won't be willing to do that so long as the install base for such accessories is relatively low.

I disagree. I have 2 Move controllers and they certainly do accurately calculate depth. I'll make a game play video and upload it to YouTube if you want proof.

Which is two move controllers or one controller and a game as they seem to be somewhat budget priced :/ I'm just weighing my options is all..

You DO NOT need TWO Move controllers to play most games however the only one that I know of which requires two controllers is The Fight.

I think The Fight is the only game announced so far that you NEED 2 move controllers for. Some games like the arrow mini game in Sports Champions are playable with one move controller, but I think it would be better experienced with 2 Moves. Hope that helps. :)

Well, some games just require a minimum of 1 Move and a standard dualshock, while something like The Fight requires two Move controllers (from what I gather). The "sub-controller" can be substituted for a Dualshock. So really if you're a guy that really only plays FPS then your good with just buying the Move controller.

Internetz is pretty big, I'm sure you can find more info.

There are ZERO games that require two Playstation Move controllers for a single person. Sports Champions allows dual wielding for archery and gladiator, but you can point with one controller in archery, or switch between sword and shield with one controller in gladiator.

The Fight can be done with a sixaxis or dualshock in the off hand.
http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2010/08/17/interview-the-fight-lights-out/

"[KG] You can play it with one. You can use a SixAxis pad as a rudimentary move controller but to get the most out of the game you ideally need to have two Move controllers."

The Dualshock can be stabilized by being held in your lap. You know, while Sitting Down, one of the good features of Move games! :P Obviously, The Fight would be more difficult for that, though some people like me can hold the DS3 comfortably in one hand.

You're right. It's a huge mistake not to advertise the hell out of this.

Good marketing works. You'd think Sony would understand this based on the changed fortunes of their gaming division when they started marketing smart.

Actually it's a good idea to do both. Advertising will only get you so far in this sort of thing, but its strong word of mouth that's saved many a Wii game from sales oblivion before, and propelled many more to superstar status.

This market thrives on word of mouth, but advertising never hurts.

i always hated when people kept telling Sony to advertise... if you think on why you got a PlayStation 3 was it because a commercial or because of the games? right, so, this is tactic is most perfect because if they do advert the hell out of this its going to come of as a Wii knock off, the casuals don't care about graphics or core games. I plan to get one by Christmas and by then i will know if its good or not and it wont be because a TV commercial or billboard. Its going to be word of mouth (aka Joystiq and their comments)

I think the message here is more a matter of "tone" than "tactics."

"We'll count on word of mouth" is about as far away of a stance as you could take from, "Sure PS3 is expensive, but you'll obviously want to get a second job to pay for it."

I don't think this means that they won't advertise it, so much as they aren't going to build up expectations that it can't live up to in a million years.

Agreed. Also I think most people are looking at what is being said WAY to literally. Of course, Sony is doing advertisements for Move--I mean, all one has to do is check out you're monthly gaming mag or website (a la Joystiq!). This may come as a surprise to some but articles, previews, or 'gameplay footage' can be just as much effective as traditional methods (mag, tv, or radio ads) of advertising. Word of mouth is still often the most effective way of doing 'advertising' as well; and put that in perspective w/ today's 'internet era' and I'm sure it won't be as weak of a move (no pun) as some might think.

Plus, i'm sure when it does come you will see it on demo/display in such places as Gamestop or whatever game shop (that afford to put out a demo model).

The Eye Toy was mostly sucessful in Europe, but did decent in Japan as well. My guess is they seem to have this crazy idea that money is money regardless of what region it comes from.

The Eye Toy is a PS2 peripheral, not a PS3 peripheral. The Eye (the PS3 one) is a huge flop. And that's a shame, because it's a good camera and just doesn't have any games.

I played the Eye Toy with PS2 quite a bit. they had a DDR with camera game that was very playable... I think it was much more fun than the dance game for the 360 (I admit, it was far less advanced, but the game is an obvious rip).

I can hardly blame you. It is not a good naming system to make the second iteration have a cut off name of the first iteration.

Anyway, the Eye Toy was 20% more popular than Halo 2.
