Valkyria Chronicles 2 trailer sets the stage for war
25
Citizens of Gallia will protect their homeland from a new threat on August 31, when Valkyria Chronicles 2 for PSP hits North American analog shelves and PSN's virtual store. We'll have to wait and see how Valkyria's epic (melo)drama, first experienced in the PS3 game back in 2008, translates to a the small screen. The story trailer after the break gives a bite-size taste of what Gallia faces.

Ahh, Valkyria Chronicles.
One of the few things Sega still does right.

And Madworld, though the sales did wrong.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Not really, actually. I loved VC1 but don't care at all about VC2. Replacing the beautiful CG cutscenes of VC1 with cheap anime in VC2, changing it to a childish school setting, and a plot that makes little sense (a civil war out of nowhere, and where the hell did this other Valkyrur come from all of a sudden?).
It's just not the same.

I may be an idiot but is it possible to play downloadable PSP games on the PS3?

@Blind Rage yes u can download it to later transfer it to a PSP but you can't play it on a PS3.
A Ps1 classic on the other hand you can play on both the ps3 and the PSP same goes for "most" of the minis.

I love them both, bought them both, and tried to get everyone else I know to buy them. I know Madworld is dead, but if I have to learn Japanese and go to SEGA with bat in hand, I will not allow them to kill of Valkyria Chronicles. And in the name of all things holy, please put 3 on the ps3.

I loved the gameplay in the first one, but my god was the story awful. It started as a competent cliche and just got increasingly stupid as it went on.

@Aerothorn it was fine to me. But , watching Anime for a long time, i got used to cliche plots and characters so they don't bother me, rather i enjoy them.

that reminds me to finish first one. game was very hard to me so i put i on hold till i have courage to continue. i hate stupid turn limit....

@DokiDokiBawanga level your scouts in some skirmishes so you can use them more, and be a bit more bold and the limit won't be an issue. I think I only ever even came close to it once early on. The game doesn't treat the timid kindly... the faster you move sometimes makes it much easier, even though it may take a few tries once you understand the enemy movements.

Remember early on in the game you play a level in your home town?
Much later on a similar level (still in your home town) become available. The level is pretty much one long straight shot and can be beaten in 1 turn. It provides excellent experience and money.

Fantastic.
I know there's been a lot of griping about this being on PSP instead of PS3, but I'm very glad to have a portable rendition. Here's hoping for better sales this time around -- Sega is never going to pull themselves out of the crapper if their great games sell terribly, and their Sonic drivel moves like hotcakes (although I have some cautious optimism for Sonic 4 and Colors).

Preordered this a long time ago. Can't wait for it, less than a week left!

looks promising. but i wish the animation style was more reminiscient of the ps3 classic. i mean i get it. it looks like they were using the game's engines to produce some of that anime in the original. and they can't really do that on the psp. So they made hand drawn cartoons. But why not, rather than have hand drawn anime like this, if they made it in the ps3 game's engine and then had a video of that.
Anyway, we can still hope they have something good. no guarantee, but it is really promising so far.

I think it worth pointing out that Sega's been hosting "Community BLiTZ" daily events via their blog and Facebook and Twitter accounts for Valkyria Chronicles. Information about the game, call-outs to notable Valkyria communities and media outlets, and prize giveaways. I'm not sure how effective it is as marketing, since it doesn't really go beyond the participating population, but it's at least something.

If you're wanting to get this but balking at the $40 MSRP pricetag, KMart will have it in-store for $25 the first week of Sept.
