Weekly Webcomic Wrapup is bolstering its ranks

While compiling this week's menagerie of gaming-centric webcomics, we suddenly realized -- man, a ton of gaming-centric webcomics have fallen off the map this past year. Regular contenders like Dipswitch, 2P Start, Slackerz and Sidescroller have either stopped updating or formally shut down entirely. We need to fatten up our catalog -- if you've got a favorite strip that you've been keeping to yourself, now would be a great time to drop a link to it in the comments!

It might be a long shot, but I think the artist of BitF was thinking of that picture when drawing that.

Brawl in the Family always makes me laugh. I always did ditch my Yoshi when I noticed I wouldn't make a jump. XD

Gonna have to go with Another Videogame Webcomic. I'm a sucker for Back To The Future references.

Penny Arcade and BitF were the best this week, but I have to give it to Penny Arcade for the creeping on escalators and peeping up some skirts.

Not a bad week. This one will pick AVGW, because anything with Back To the Future references is a winner on this one's list.

Runner-up is Brawl in the Family.

They're dropping off the map because they aren't very good. Like most of these. I find that I only vote every so often to begin with. This stuff just isn't funny, not even as "inside jokes". I don't get how people find this stuff amusing...

As someone who buys new, you are not the customer of the developer, they don't care about you.

Well, it's not so much that every comic needs to be knock-down, drag-out funny. But when a comic is simply trying to convey some kind of business, political, or social message that isn't particularly amusing or ironic, then it's just a Doonesbury knock-off. And that "comic" hasn't been even slightly funny in decades...

Manly Guys Doing Manly Things (http://thepunchlineismachismo.com/) is a hilarious gaming-centric webcomic that needs more advertisement. Check that out.

I've also noticed a lack of Dueling Analogs comics in these wrapups. Whassupwitdat?

What Dueling Analogs has done this week:

Dig up Rejected Mega Man Villains, copying and pasting Wiki Man. Twice. From a strip made on May 13, 2008.

Repost an old strip

Dig up The Miis and use a joke slightly more underused than Knock-Knock jokes.

Yeah, I'm not surprised.

Sadly, you can add Monday Night Crew to the list of webcomics going away with our last comic going up on Monday. Our artist is entering into the last year of his Masters Degree in Sequential Art and can't afford the time to create three comics a week for us anymore. In addition, I'm entering into my classes based on my degree major (game design and development) so I can't write multiple scripts.

We are going to be doing something completely different that steers us away from the 'red ocean' gaming webcomic waters. I'm totally stoked for it but the project won't be around for a long time.

A special thanks to Joystiq, Ross Miller, and everyone who voted for our comics and left nice words about it. Hopefully one day I might see some more of our work here again.

Wow, this is the first time I've ever voted for BiTF, but that was hilarious.

But i'm not gelling with the message of either Penny Arcade or No Cash Value. While i'm no great fan of gamestop, the brick and mortar store is here to stay so long as this medium endures primarily as a physical one, which, given the snails' pace of broadband growth and the accelerating pace of bulky retail titles, should be for quite some time.

Likewise, you're still a customer of anyone if you buy their games used. A very important customer, because you're telling them that their product was not worth full price for you.

Also, I get perturbed like people act like "used games" only = gamestop.

Likewise, I hate that all these people who talk of hurting the industry ignore all the plethora of agreements and deals and exclusive contracts pretty much every company makes with their supposedly hated Gamestop.

Fact of the matter is, console game publishers just want as much money soley to themselves as humanly possible.

The last thing we need is download only.

Quality PC releases are just too far and few in between, and the ones that we do get are all multiplayer.
It's the only platform that's been abandoned by half of the Western world, and almost all of Japan.

please, most people i know who buy used do it because they know they will get the same game for cheaper, sometimes within the first week.

Gamestop had used copies of me2, bfbc2, mw2 in the week of release. People didn't buy used because they "knew" it wasnt worth the price (how could they reach that decision if they hadnt played it yet?), they bought it to save 5 bucks.

Xbox games are NOT worth full price. PS3 games yes, because they are on blu-ray discs which cost more to produce. Wii games yes, because they are $50, a standard price point. PC games yes, b/c once again they are $50 but they also add million times more playability with mods and such. 360 games no, b/c they are $60 just for the sake of adding $10 more to publishers and Microsoft's pockets.

AVG wins for the back to the future reference. Awkward zombie comes in second place. BITF's lickitung comic (the newest one) was better than all, but sadly I was unable to vote for it.

i dont get the scott pilgrim comic. a graphic novel inspired a movie and a game. so what?

Well, there's the graphic novel which references itself from time to time, there's the movie inspired by the books but also references the game, and there's the game based on the movie with references to the books that have nothing to do with the movie which is based on the books.

And don't forget Scott Pilgrim vs. The Animation

Went with Penny Arcade, but BitF was a close second and AVGW was pretty good too.

And I just noticed today that the characters in PA have only four fingers on each hand. Weird...

I'm actually halfway through my first playthrough of LoZ: Ocarina of Time and I'm learning just what the Link in the Awkward Zombie comic is going through, so it gets my vote.

The "Another Videogame Webcomic" comic is stupid.

The Scott Pilgrim book isn't supposed to be based on anything. It's just a (really good) comic with video game and music influences.

The movie is based on the book.

The game is based on the movie.
