I already pre-purchased it through Steam. Still, I'd have liked the demo out before hand just so I an scratch that Civilization itch that isn't going to go away.

At least they'll actually have a demo for us. Countless games that I wish had demos.

All the Civ V coverage has me desperate to play it, I wish the demo hadn't been delayed. I might install Civ IV to keep me going until it comes out...

The demo is you handing over $50 because you already know you want it.

@KupoCheer I knew I wanted it... but now that the demo's been delayed I have to find something else to do with the entire first half of September :(

I've never played a Civ game but I still pre-ordered it. Figured I should start now (plus, I got Civ 3 free, so that's a plus).

Better to get a Day 1 demo that works instead of a three week early demo that taints the games impression...

Do they really need a demo? From all the previews it seems like it's like civ 4, but better in every way. Hell, I'd probably still buy it if it was just a graphics upgrade for civ 2. I'm preparing to lose weeks of my life to this game.

@Bananarama

Without a demo, pirates use the excuse of "trying it before they buy it." With a demo out, the douches have one less excuse. They'll put up another strawman but lack of demo is often a key excuse to steal.

Everybody's saying it so I don't know who to reply to.

Yes, I would like a demo! I know I want the game, but for me the demo is to see if I can run the game!

Something tells me the hex-based system is going to be generally disliked.

I know all the arguments for it (most notably that it makes distances far more realistic), but they are also more complex for the mind to process. I have never been able to destress when playing hex-based games.

@dingoperson the PC Gamer UK review gave it 93% the reviewer comments specifically that he was surprised at how little he felt the difference whilst playing. So hopefully it won't be too much of an issue, and the improved combat as a result sounds like a lot of fun.

@NineT9 hehe yeah I remember doing that when I was younger, sitting at the computer with a friend playing Civ 2, just trolling the other civs in the diplomacy menus with our massed high tech armies to back us up.

What is the demo releasing?

Seriously, the developer is releasing the game. "Release" is a transitive verb: it must have an object. I HATE when professional writers make that mistake.

So excited for Civ V that I actually decided to pick up Colonization and give it a whirl. Definitely a whole different beast to get the head around, but enjoying it so far
