Team17 wriggles free from third-party publishers
23
Having released only two boxed retail games in the past three years, Worms developer Team17 has been working toward total independence from third-party publishers. That moment has arrived for the studio, which has repositioned itself as an independent digital publisher, reports MCV. "We have no ambitions to return to retail publishing," co-founder Martyn Brown told the site.
Team17 has completed a restructuring initiative, which has both promoted existing staff and brought in new hires to fill the roles of a publishing entity. In addition to continuing to self-publish its own titles through digital distribution channels -- having celebrated its 20th anniversary last December, Team17 is one of the oldest independent developers in the industry -- the company will be working with other independent developers to bring their games to digital platforms, including XBLA, PSN and the App Store.
"We are actively involved in working with other independent studios to publish their IP. This is a key aspect of our strategy going forward," Brown said. "We now have the right structure and team in place to accomplish this."

don´t worry, you´ll get them.... for the next 30 years, one "enhanced" version per year, with a brand new weapon, and a brand new price......

"We have no ambitions to return to retail publishing," which is a shame. I own all boxed versions of "Worms" with the cardboard boxes still sitting on one of my shelves. Would buy a boxed one day one.
Also: "Team17 is a great company, good for them." - rather, it used to be. Their products were kind of 'meh' in the 2001-2007 era. The XBox Live version of Worms was horrible, the PS3 port not much better, the Wii "A Space Oddity" was just pure garbage and the first Open Warfare was incredibly weak as well. Fortunately, OW2 and now, Reloaded are pretty good, so, hopefully, they're now back to their old, innovative selves again.

you are right, team 17 games have never been awesome, the success of team 17 was more a: "there are no good games for the amiga and this ones are not so bad" than real quality, all their games were very average, but we remember them with a lot of love must of all because they appeared when the amiga was starting to face the true that p.c. games were better. So ANYTHING was better than nothing, just try to replay any of those old titles and you´ll see what i´m talking about, body blows, superfrog, project x, all those games didn´t stand the test of time, the only one who did it was worms and that game has been remade so many times that it´s ridiculous, reloaded didn´t add ANYTHING new to the franchise, virtually all the weapons are the same that i saw since the amiga version, and the only thing that i really wanted which was the possibility to play your own mp3 music during game and add your own custom voices to the worms ( which was possible on the amiga) was not added......great.... :P

Team 17 is awesome and I hope they NEVER change their late 80s Amiga inspired logo! Speaking of which, I hope they bring more old Amiga game remakes to consoles and Steam. I hope they buy back the rights from Sony to Lemmings and Shadow of the Beast, and most Psygnosis games and re-release them. It's not like SONY is doing anything those IPs!
