I like the idea of a Demo / Pre-Story type of DLC. Not only is it rather cheap but it's like an extended introduction, the gameplay is obviously there, and it's more than just a free demo which offers only small teases.

I would completely enjoy if other developers and companies decided to do the same thing.

@ZGiSH while I certainly like the premise something tells me this could have made it to the full game.

@ZGiSH I'm with you, as long as it stays cheap, I'll gladly pay five bucks for a teaser sized taste of a game.

You're right, for many reasons... but its all moot to me because they decided to make it console exclusive, so i don't get to try out this extended "demo" that i would be normally be happy to pay for. Oh well.

@L3gato You can say pretty much anything could have been made it into the full game, so it's not a fair statement. Just because they made this piece of content before the real game release, doesn't mean they have to throw it into the game if it is not part of their budget. I don't think they would make this prologue had they not plan to sell it like this. They can just make you read a bunch of text to describe the events leading up to DR2 and call it a day.

Also, what if people don't intent to the full retail game? They can still pay $5 and enjoy a chuck of content that won't be available in the retail game.

It could have, but considering the full game probably has a good amount of content I think this is an interesting market test to see if people would like to experience Dead Rising in full.

Imagine the amount of people that would have never picked up Dead Rising if they hadn't been able to try this out. Now, add the amount of people that really like Dead Rising and want to purchase this to get a head start on DR2. Capcom has just made some money by putting out a smaller version of their full game and possibly increased sales of the bigger version.

@Lerkero isn't that the purpose of free demos though to wet your appetite. I just don't like to think that companies might start cutting part of a game just to more money. Then again it's been happening with day one DLCs and I don't complain about those since they're usually a continuation and not a prelude to the story.

@ZGiSH does anyone else recall an article where there was an executive at a major publisher who said something along the lines of the time for free demos is coming to an end. He argued that putting out a demo costs money and time and that publishers/developers have to recoup those costs somehow. This appears to be the first volley in that battle.

I took the time and found that article. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/17/crytek-boss-free-game-demos-prohibitively-expensive/ Where that argument fails for me is that the demo is essentially little more than marketing. Next thing you know, they'll argue that commercials cost too much to develop and are a luxury that players need to start paying for. Maybe we'll have to pay for the right to clip coupons for the grocery store. Or when telemarketers call, they'll charge us for the privilege to listen to them.

There are two things the DR2 Demo has going for it. 1) It's original content...we're not paying to play the first level of the game (which we'll have to play all over when the retail version releases)
2) It is substantial. 3 hours worth of Gameplay is nothing to sniff at...hell I just beat Shank (which cost me 15 bux) in less time than that.

So unless you want to donate the cost of the vga adapter or a new tv/monitor I will continue to be a little upset..and yes I own the first Dead Rising..I just havent gotten any further than 20min cause its so damn hard to play.

The Ninja Costume is not exclusive to the PlayStation 3. It is for all preorders, including Xbox 360.

@postpwn I never had any intention of getting Dead Rising 2, but will get the $5 prequel.

At $5 for 3 hours of gameplay, that's basically the entirety of the new Kane & Lynch game for $60. Shame on those guys.

@postpwn .

I just bought the $5 Case Zero and am waiting to play it after it downloads. At this point, I am not at all planning on buying the full game. Maybe this DLC will convince me otherwise. I really liked the first game, but unless that horrible save system has been dealt with, I will not be buying the sequel. I am not going to go through that major annoyance again.

This reminds me of way back in the early 90's when PC demos and trial versions of games were like 20% of the retail games cost... however, they usually had a decent amount of length to them (like this does).
To me, this is both a positive and a negative.

Nope. Las Vegas. Fortune City isn't meant to *be* Las Vegas. It's just *like* Las Vegas. At the beginning of Case Zero, Chuck has just come from Las Vegas, where the zombie outbreak began.
