I hate my country; why is the majority of the chart filled with crap?
Theres, Kane and Lynch, Red Dead Redemption, Wii Sports Resort, Just Dance and Sniper: Ghost Warrior, all on the top 10 list of games sales in the UK and they all are horrible.

Downvote away for the Red Dead comment but I don't mind, I recognise that Joystiq hates people who don't conform to the majority.

You say joystiq doesn't like people going with the majority but i would hazard a guess at least 2 of those 5 games you mentioned as being horrible you have not actually played and are just going with the opinion of .... the majority!

I have only played Red Dead Redemption and wii sports resort out of those games, not a fan of RdR (gonna trade it even tho its not finished for Metroid and Valkeryia Chronicals 2 at the weekend) as its just not fun. Wii sports resort is a laugh with mates tho.

Not going to comment on the others because i ain't tried them, they might be good, might be bad. And even if i don't liek them others will (like my dislike of RDR)

Oh from the UK btw.

@Milky1985 I have played either the retail version or the demo for all the games I listed aside from Just Dance which I assume can't have much depth to it at all.

Wow, you're so cool and underground for not "conforming to the masses". Proof that hipsters are now starting to infest the UK.

@NathanDTS You had me, then lost me at RDR. The others are all meh, but RDR is a serious candidate for GOTY, in my opinion.

Guess Patcher was wrong about Mafia 2 having slow sales. Take-Two financial report should be fine this quarter.

ANd what's up with Just Dance? I mean, it's one thing for a game to have legs, but this is just insane. Does anyone have the total sales of this game?

Was gonna buy Mafia II, but when I heard that there was dlc for the game day of release and then more a week later, I cancelled my pre-order.
Wonder how much of the game was cut just to charge us more money via dlc.

Any game that has DLC on, or even before release (Tiger) is off my list for buying. I want the full game I paid for. I was highly miffed at Battlefield 2. Second hand copy - yet, I do not have access to various game modes on various maps, because its unlocked from the disc with the VIP code.

Poor. Poor showing. VIP codes, first day DLC. All beginning to make my gaming purchases sour even before I contemplate it.

I would rather spend my money on a few bluray films/tv series these days. That way, I know what I am getting in the box. All content is there for me to access, as I HAVE PAID FOR IT!!!

@dirt junkie But the DLC that was available the first day is FREE and comes with the game (PS3 only which you probably have otherwise you wouldn't be worried about the first DLC because the other systems don't get it).

I don't care what the reviews say; after playing Mafia 2 I think it's a great game and I happily recommend it to anyone.

Sure, it does lack a little bit of action, and it can be beat in about 10-12 hours, but it's FUN! It's story driven which is honestly a nice change (I never beat Red Dead Redemption, GTA, Vice City, or GTA4 because there was so much side stuff to do when I was done I was bored of the game)

As a working professional, I appreciate a game I can beat in less than 20 hours; I honestly recommend everyone here at least rents Mafia 2; you won't be disappointed.

@fdisk I'm also a working professional, if you want to call people who got a day job that :) but in any case the way I'm looking at this thing is how much value you got when purchasing the game. For me personally, it is lacking. For a singleplayer only, no freeroam/freeride, and no multiple endings/options to finish a mission (to encourage multiple playthrough) have to be at least 20 hours for me to see that it is worth $50 (I bought the PC Version). I could do some of the fun stuff multiple times if they keep it fresh, but not this one unfortunately.

What I seem to be playing seems to be a story-driven DRIVING game with shootings and cutscenes added on and even the story feels so rushed it didnt even make sense who is who. I havent finished the game yet, but for some reason everything in the game feels so hollow. It is a wasted potential in my opinion, and the fact that they will nickel and dime with DLCs just makes me nerdrage more...

Mafia 2 and K&L-2.

Us UK gamers need to begin reading previews, and playing demo's before purchasing.

Two of the most bought games, filled with glitches (K&L) and boring linear gameplay (Mafia) - TRY BEFORE YOU BUY FELLOW UK PEEPS!

Do not be sending the crap to the top of the pile!

@DigitalFortress RDR wasn't boring but was filled with glitches. Every game will have glitches or bugs. You know the saying, "one man's junk is another man's treasure"? Well, "one man's crappy game is another man's favorite game." I can't speak for K&L but Mafia 2 was a great game to me and well worth the purchase.

Mafia 2 has had a really strong advertising run in the UK over the past week or 2. I've seen it advertised on tv quite a few times which is unusual for games apart from Nintendo games like Brain Training and Nintendogs.

It isn't that Uk gamers don't play demos or read reviews, it's about the fact that new releases are so few and far between that any gamer starved for a game will simply buy any cr@p that is released due to lack of choice! MS should put less money into stupid add-ons like FB, Twitter, Zune stuff, new marketplace front ends and more into making games instead of buying gaming companies and desolving them. Xbox has gone down hill since Mr Gates went into semi-retirement and they have now raised the Gold price by a staggering amount, it's all BS from MS with no choice in the gaming market:(

You want them to make better games without actually owning any gaming companies? I see the logic there.

This is exactly why people must PLAY demos before thinking about buying games. While some people may like this game, I personally don't. I think this game is a horrible clone of GTA & I couldn't play 5 minutes of it without complaining about the clunky controls & bad narative. Like I said, I'm sure there are fans who adore this game but I for one am glad I played the demo. I think more people should too.

@Prboi But that's the thing, this is not a GTA clone and doesn't try to be GTA. As for the demo thing, I agree that demos are great but I didn't really like the Just Cause 2 demo but loved the game. Same thing with Resistance. A demo should show a gamer how the game is played and what it is capable of but should never be used to judge the game itself.

If a demo/beta comes out a few months prior to the games release then it's understandable that it wouldn't be all that good & bugs would be frequent. But When a demo comes out a few weeks before it's release, you can bet that the game is close to, if not done already. So since the Mafia II demo came out a couple weeks ago & just released last week, then I'm sure the same problems will be there. Demos are for showing you how the game is played but they're also used to test out how people like the game. It's not going to stop them from releasing it but it gives people a taste of what's to come

I'd be astonished if Mafia II DIDN'T crack the top 10 list on week 1 - not because it's necessarily a good game (I know I was unimpressed by the demo), but because 2K is promoting the living bejeezus out of it. I'm on vacation in France right now, and on the subway yesterday virtually EVERY stop had gigantic advertisements for game, sometimes more than one. People are practically having the game shoved down their throats, and as Nintendo and Activision have shown us in recent years, nothing ropes in casual gamers better than clever and/or excessive (in this case the latter) advertising.

Not normally, it was just quicker to show an overview rather than an indepth precise study and a lot more sense than somebody saying that Microsoft doesn't own any game companies??
